I’m gonna punch someone in the throat 😭 like I’m always red from my face, leave me alone !!!
If I have to hear “why are you so red” one more time… 🙃
Supportplease respect my privacy during this difficult time
I’m stealing this for next time someone feels the need to tell me how red I am
omg I have this a lot lately! I get so RED after drinking a few sips already
Oh that’s so me 😭 it flares up really bad and my cheeks get hot
I had to stop drinking ciders and wine because it made the reaction so much worse. I limit my drinks but anytime I’m red!
Can’t do anything but vodka or white wine but even then still get red. Beer and red wine are worse though
I hate this. I’m always having flares so already worried people thing I’m a lush. Sucks when my nose and cheeks immediately flush from a sip of white wine on top of that.
The last time I was asked by the five year old daughter of my friend. I said, it's because of a skin desease, sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse. She thought a second about it and said, no matter, you're pretty. (That's not how I see myself but who would argue with this tiny big love?)
we need more adults like this🥺haha
That's a reasonable age to be asking.
Oh, my! That was so kind of her! 🥺
“Why is your face always red” my face gets flush from anything and everything, including you asking me that 🤦
No literally 😂 I get even more red when they point it out
Right????
For me it's the oldies "complimenting" my "lovely rosy red cheeks" 🙄
Same!!
Always in summer: “aahhh it looks like you had too much sun today! Maybe put on sunscreen”
It’s the same red as I have in winter. But apparently in summer people associate it with sunburn.
I get so unreasonably pissed when people tell me to put sunscreen on when they see my red face!
Yep. I typically respond with “it’s always red”
This has happened to me so many times 😩.
Right! I hate it, why do people feel this need? I’ve just started to throw back a deadpan “I have a skin condition” in response to make whoever said it just as uncomfortable as their comment made me :)
Edit: btw last time this happened it was my stepbrother and my stepsister was sitting next to me and exclaimed an “I have that too!”. Turned into a nice bonding moment so it really works well for me haha.
Yep! I always respond to intrusive questions like that. Bluntly telling them the sad truth. Works like a charm, shows them that asking things like that can be inappropriate.
I know, they wouldn’t comment on an overweight person.
People absolutely do comment on overweight people.
You’d be surprised. They might not ask why, but they will make all sorts of inappropriate comments
After having to present my department's financials for the first time (I was terrified) in front of 10 or so people, I was told by a passerby after the meeting, "Your face is so red!" Thanks, asshole. I wanted to cry.
Oh man, this winds me up so much! Or, 'oooh you've gone all red!' - yes, and you are making it worse! My favourite one - I used to be in a big choir and the conductor asked me a simple question. I went bright red, as per, and the woman sat next to me exclaimed loudly that I had 'gone bright red' and laughed, in front of everyone! I used to call her a friend, that was the first sign she wasn't the nice person I thought she was :(
Also, people telling me I should wear sun block on hot days, telling me I am burning - mate, I am smothered in factor 50, leave it out.
Edit: Now I have been diagnosed with Rosacea, I am using the 'I have a skin condition' line with people. Seems to do well at making them realise they shouldn't point this stuff out.
I say the exact same thing! They usually stay quiet or apologize lol
This. I don’t even say it in an awkward way. Just to inform them and teach them that literally everything makes me flush and it’s actually really painful. Hopefully they’ll learn not to do it again
"Oh wow , you've been in the sun for too long. , huh? Haha"
Now I don't give a fuck and say "it's an incurable sickness, thank you."
"did you run here?' 🙄
I had a co-worker literally ask me if I was an alcoholic or something because my nose and cheeks are red. The things grown ass adults say...
Wtf… that is beyond rude
Right? I was like uhhh is this actually happening? Tbf the guy has mild autism and is super nice in general but that one hurt lol
It did get me to go to the dermatologist and I look a lot better now, so maybe there's a silver lining there.
Glad your skin is doing better! It can take a lot of time to find what works for you
This is always my fear of why people think. Even my mom once accused me of drinking too much when I got a cyst on my nose :(
Definitely. It's hard enough having skin issues on top of societal implications about it all. It's stressful!
Cause I’m hot (tissssssss)
Why are you so red? Your cheeks are so red! Are you embarrassed? What's wrong with your face! Aww look at your cheeks! Or any variant of that sends me over the edge. It's always the same people at work that ask me that. I've started replying really sarcastically because literally no answer is ever satisfactory to them. Or a simple 'yes, I know and I don't need for my medical conditions to be constantly pointed out to me' makes them shut up quickly.
Wild that they’d know it’s a medical condition and keep pointing it out. I emphasize how much I hate having rosacea and that it’s actually very painful and that usually gets people to understand that it’s not just some funny thing.
Absolutely... Yesterday I went to the toillet in my work and when I looked in the mirror I though "Well, my rosacea is really calm these days, the redness is fading, that's great". Like ten minutes later a really sweet coworker saw me and for the first time in a year or so we've been working together he said "Oh, darling, your cheeks are pretty red" and I was like 😬
Nooo lmao 😭
Because it’s my favourite colour 🤦🏽♀️
"Why is your face so red?" "Because I am filled with incandescent rage. Your total is 15.40$, will that be cash or card?
Love this
Seriously!! It makes it worse for me too after that. People need to realize how rude that question is.
Right?! Like thanks for making it even worse bud. Ugh.
I feel for you! Went to get my mail recently and someone asked me "what happened to your face?"
I was so shocked I couldn't come up with any words.
Wow. I’ve had that once but about my dark under eyes. Dude literally don’t believe that I didn’t have 2 black eyes. Ouch. Also had people ask “what’s wrong with your eyes” because of my ocular rosacea - implying I’m stoned. Oh this disease that makes me cry and seriously impairs my life? That’s what’s wrong Karen.
I had to stop running at the gym because people kept thinking I was going to die
Omg I hate how my face looks after working out 😭
Or the sauna 😭 the looks I get
Sadly can’t exercise because of this - even making my bed or getting up too fast can be a trigger :/
Ugh yes. A lady at work in her 60s who also is red everyday from getting drunk every night makes the same comment to me every couple weeks. I wanna slap her lol
Yesss. I had done a home lash lift one time and I was seeing my brother that weekend (who has the most beautiful lashes, such a waste) anyways… I walked up to him all proud of my lashes and asked him if he noticed anything different. His response, “Yeah, your face is really red.” 😑
“Why are you asking me such a personal question?”
I had a neighbor say something to me about my rosacea recently that hit hard. She mentioned she was using the pool at the Y and had somehow developed a rash on her face and mentioned it to me. She then said something to the effect of "well your face is always red so I thought maybe you'd know what it is." LIke, no lady. Just because I have rosacea doesn't mean I'm a dermatologist.
Lmfao. What??? Even GP’s don’t know what sort of rash you have 90% of the time. And definitely not without at least a photo.
Ugh yes! All the time. If my husband is with me and hears it he will always defend me to the person being rude, because I’m too weak to do it myself. It brings me down so much I can’t even say anything snarky back. 😥
How sweet of your husband!
walk around looking sad and trying not to make eye contact with people anymore. But my friend said she would have a lot of money
If people gave her money each time they said this
I'm a bigger girl, and it's always "wow, are you okay?" Like, yes, I'm fine. My face is always red.
Going on summer vacation last year with my bfs family was the worst. They kept insisting I use the neck air conditioner they got for their disabled 80 y/o father/grandfather 🙃
I would actually really like one of those! Heat is a big trigger for me
It actually was super nice but damn did I feel bad when they wanted me to use over their wheelchair bound grandfather 😂😭
Oops. Missed that part lol. Ouch
I didn't find that it really works. I mean it blow some air but I smell like it's cold air if it's warm outside
Sorry I talking to my phone in the last comment wasn't supposed to say but I smell like it's just supposed to say the air is not cold even with the Arctic air brand name for example
I feel for you! Went to get my mail recently and someone asked me "what happened to your face?"
I was so shocked I couldn't come up with any words.
Wow!!
I use color correction cream pretty much every time I leave the house, so I don't get it much then. However a few times, my husband has brought it up, most recently when I broke out in some bumps due to a reaction to a new product I was trying. I had to tell him, believe me, I know! I felt like doing a George Costanza - I AM AWARE!!! Unfortunately, he doesn't speak much English, so he wouldn't have gotten the reference.
I wish I could use more makeup but it triggers / hurts my skin. What brand do you use?
https://www.loreal-paris.co.uk/face-makeup/cc-cream
In my case it doesn't seem to irritate my skin. YMMV, of course.
I had to park far away to come back from lunch during the South Texas summer heat, I walked in to the office all red and one small little guy started laughing and said: Aawww! Look at you all flustered (we were talking about a customer’s issue). I just stared at him and said: no, I have a skin condition that makes my skin red/irritated easily… fastest way to shut his mouth! People needs to STFU!
Peridot
I like to add “it’s actually really painful” too.
I went to a workout class and this lady thought I didn’t speak Spanish and she was right next to me and said to her friend “look at how red her face is”. So rude.
Ugh the audacity 😭
Right! Like focus on yer workout lady, stop looking at my face
Hardly anyone ever mentions it to me because mine is so bad. Most people don't talk to me or make eye contact. I feel like a complete freak.
My mom says shit like “Wow. Your face is really red!” She knows I have rosacea. She knows I’ve tried every treatment available. She knows I can feel the temperature of my skin heat up. She knows I’m tired of people making comments about my skin. She still says it and then has the audacity to be surprised when I tell her to stfu. You don’t have to voice every thought you have, mom. I’m 51 years old and I’ve had rosacea for the last 30 years and my mom still comments on my skin. People suck.
She sucks. She’s probably projecting lol you’re beautiful
Before I was diagnosed, people would ask - usually friends and coworkers. Since I knew them personally I knew it was coming from concern, love and empathy. It was super embarrassing, though! I feel you, OP, if it‘s a stranger, I would be embarrassed and angry at them. MYOB stranger, 😭.
Hahaha yeah it sucks :( I just wanna look/feel normal
and people say it exactly like that too. it honestly shocks me how grown adults can say that to someone and not fathom how rude it sounds
Yes, this post right here sums the whole disease/ illness/condition/disorder into one sentence, that we can’t hide from, …people! Them, “Wow how did you get so sunburned in the middle of winter when the sun hasn’t been out in 3 months, your literally purple”.
Same people would never go up to an overweight person and tell them how obese they look, or tell a balding person that they lost even more hair overnight. Yet they will ask “why are you so red” at the drop of a hat. For 25 years I have lied and said yes “I got cooked in the sun today”. As I have gotten older, I have less patience and I am going to move into the “incurable skin condition” line. Then they will be red also with embarrassment after asking ridiculous questions. Especially true for friends and family who see us constantly.
As someone who has rosacea and is a big person, people point out both just as often. There's also less empathy for people who are bigger versus when people hear that you have a skin condition.
Mine is just an everyday.
At work someone said 'you have gone red'
Someone else said ' she is always red' (not in defence of me, more like 'i know right - always red).
This made me a little grumpy. Going back now I wished I had said something like 'it wouldn't be appropriate to say you 're always brown' - but appropriate to say I'm always red'
Yes! Same! I have to wear a ton of makeup
I think because I suffered from type 1 for so long, I don't even see redness on other people's faces anymore. Like a person with a flushed face looks perfectly normal to me because it's what I would see in the mirror for years. So I always find it jarring to be reminded that other people consider it unusual. But even all that aside, who in their right mind would ask another person such a personal question?? Don't they consider that the answer could embarrass the other person? My best friend has a huge scar on her chest from open heart surgery she had as a child, and the number of people who point to it and go "How'd you get that??" is astounding. It's no one's business!!!
Did you get yours under control ?
Yes! I was finally able to control my type 1 flare-ups by never putting water on my face that was warmer than lukewarm, but over time it morphed into type 2. A short course of doxycycline and 3x-per-week applications of ivermectin got that under control (after I suffered for years without treatment because I thought it was just acne - this sub has been a lifesaver!) and these days all I have to do is apply the ivermectin cream once a week. It's been about 3 years and I hardly have any blemishes anymore.
I‘m on oraycea and Soolantra and nothing is helping :(
They put me on 100 mg of doxy per day at first, but I had some wicked side effects so they dropped it down to 50. I wonder if the higher initial dose is what made the difference at first, because my skin started clearing up like crazy after only 3-4 days, then more slowly after that (when I switched to the lower dose).
Are you 100% sure it's type 2 rosacea that you have, and not some other condition that mimics it? I've also read that type 2 isn't always caused by mites, but if it is, then the soolantra should help, though in some cases, it takes months of dedicated usage several times per week. But if it's not, then soolantra probably won't work :(
I have type 1 and two. :( I do have an appointment with my dermatologist in 10 days.
I have type 1 - literally nothing but botox helps. And sadly that’s super pricy and wears off after 3 months.
It's pure ignorance when people ask this question! People are so quick to make judgments, etc May we all learn to accept people for who they are.
“Oh look how red he/she is getting!” “Look it he’s/she’s blushing!”
Brooo it activates my flight or fight fr
"Your mom didn't teach you that it's rude to comment on other people's bodies?"
"yes, it's a disfiguring skin disorder" and then I look at them like they are the asshole.
I’ve really just been owning the whole “I know, I have rosacea. I get red when I’m hot, stressed, or drinking. But I’m always red anyway.”
But im with you on the frustration… leave me alone already I know I’m red I don’t need you to point it out.
I hear you!
Never gets old.
“Why are you so rude?” LoL not really but I wish
If I’m really inflamed it’s like purple/104 degrees 😭
My redness is my nose specifically. So I have heard it all and been called Rudolph more times than I can count. I get so mad everytime someone makes a comment, idk why people think it’s okay to comment on your face like that. “Oh do you have a cold? You nose is so red. “ “been doing a lot of coke?” “Your nose is so red you look like Rudolph! Hahaha”
🙃 that gets old real quick
I get “wow you need sunscreen” or “damn that Sun really got you!” or “what’s wrong with your face???”…that one is my fav.
I own it and like saying I’m hot cuz I’m cool about it
Right?! When I am at the gym working out at least once a week one person in a class/the floor asks me if I’m OK. Are you okay? Do you need a break? Are you going to throw up? No I’m fine. Really! I just turn this color. I am a beet when I do anything. And when someone asks about my cheeks, they hear them and respond by getting redder because that’s what they do. Lucky us.
Also I get legitimate concerned looks from people when I walk around with my beet face at the gym. I stopped caring. Maybe it’ll help other reds like me feel more comfortable knowing they aren’t alone.
When I go for runs I get the most dire looks from people, further increasing my embarrassment since I’m a thic girl. I have been saying for several years now that I just want a shirt specifically for running that says “I’m okay. I’m not dying. It’s rosacea.”
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, why?"
"Youre face is realllllly red"
🤬
“Are you okay? Do you have allergies?”
OMG no kidding. I am so sick of explaining.
Edit: and having someone say “people who drink alcohol have that”. ummm no. Drank alcohol my whole life. This started when I got this job and my days off I don’t have problems, mornings better, end of day I look like I’ve been bobbing for French Fries and because my job makes my nose run incessantly I am having to daub it on my arm (can’t blow properly because work in a cold food place) repeatedly which causes more trouble and makes it appear bluish.
I remember when I used to drink alcohol more frequently (now it’s a single drink every once in a while) I’d always hear “OH YOUR FACE IS SO RED” Like yes it’s my rosacea and I’m having a reaction please leave me alone 😭
