What?? The bed cover on my ram 2500 is waterproof. I can also fold back the cover and load up a washer and dryer like I did this weekend.
Those nice ones do that (and the ct should for $120k), but even my cheap flap and snap just lets a little spray get through in a car wash…it’s both a lot of water and ignorant owner expecting a bone dry bed after a pressure wash or even driving in heavy rain

Ya, mine doesn't even snap down and blows up every time it's windy, but I can drive through a car wash with stuff in my bed, and it stays dry. I did develop a drip at the beginning of June after 3 days of constant rain, but it was just in one spot. I'd love to get a nice bed cover, but any bed cover should be waterproof. Most importantly, I don't see how that turns a truck into a suv, which is the comment I was responding to.
My bed cover is nearly 100% waterproof

It's a CT owner, they're going to use any and every excuse possible to talk about the vehicle. Many of them are also complete idiots who couldn't solve a problem to save their life let alone keep suitcases dry. This would literally take maybe 3-5 minutes to fix. Blow off excess water with a leaf blower and dab it with a towel afterwards and it'd be plenty dry. That whole post is proof positive to the stereotype that most CT owners have never owned an actual truck used for hauling anything before.

So it's now safe to assume the only functions the CT tonneau cover has is a range extender and somewhere to stand on to prove how faux tuff the bucket of bolts is.
More design compromises, do not assume the truck bed is weather proof. Especially when it comes to "truck stuff". Plaster, cement, electrical power tools all hate getting wet.
I mean that doesn't look "flooded" to me, just grab a towel and you'll get the worst of it out.

However, how shockingly bad is that cargo capacity for such a large truck? Two suitcases and you're not getting much else in there. My shitbox Civic has more storage space than that.

Not completely but the nicer ones should do a better job than that. Mine has been on my truck for a few years, through many a downpour and a car wash and it’s pretty dry after.
I think the person is being a bit dramatic about the suitcases and amount of water, but I suspect his water problem is going to get worse over time as the seals age.
They are for the most part, at least good quality ones, when I wash my truck it does let moisture in (I pressure wash with a 1,700 PSI gas pressure washer) but I never seen moisture in from just rain

In Australia we generally fit a moulded liner and hinged one piece fibreglass 'hatch'. It is 100% waterproof.

Tesla does not claim that the tonneau cover is waterproof - as it states in the literature:
“Although the tonneau cover protects contents from the majority of water during rain, snow, etc., it does not make the cargo bed waterproof. Water ingress and/or condensation can occur. Therefore, do not store items that can be damaged by water under the tonneau cover.”
So as much as I think the cybertruck is overhyped, overpriced, and overblown, this dude is just a putz.
That said, most new pickups have decent seals on their tailgates so that adding a good-quality tonneau cover will result in a 99% waterproof cargo area… but it’s still a truck bed, and no manufacturer would ever say that it will be totally water- or weather-proof.

I've owned 4 pickup trucks in my life. Two of them have had tonneau covers, one a hard one-piece, and my current truck has a soft vinyl one.
Both of them would/will get water in the bed during a car wash, especially a touch-free carwash.

It’s why my 3rd Tesla will hopefully be a Rivian.
I can appreciate it sucks for you to have that experience but I got mine yesterday and a borderline monsoon happened in Florida today and when I opened the tonneau expecting a bunch of water all I found was a tiny trickle on both edges of the inside of the bed, literally almost bone dry and the truck was exposed to the hard rain for over 2-3 hours. I wish everyone had a similar experience and clearly some seal better than others but it is possible. Hopefully service can help!
