What’s your favorite kind of pizza? I gotta double back and make another deep dish soon
I only just discovered in Vegas last year that detroit style was even a thing, freakin delish. Probably even more so in actual detroit, but still
Buddys the OG in Detroit is amazing… but there are places throughout the country that do it just as good if not better imo
When we were growing up, that was just square pizza. Referring to it as Detroit style is new. That wasn’t even close to the main style of pizza we ate in Detroit.
sicilian is square also, lots of different square pizza. Detroit is Detroit though… there are qualities about it that make it unique. Detroit style pizza has been dubbed since the mid 40’s. So definitely not “new”
Someone may have dubbed the term Detroit style in the 40s but no one I knew in Detroit ever used the term Detroit Style when referring to square pizza or used it as a marketing term until recently. My grandparents’ house that’s one of the few houses still standing on that block is about five minutes away from the original Buddy’s.
For sure, I grew up in Detroit as well. We didn’t have to call it “Detroit style”, everyone already knew it was our own thing. The term is typically only used across the country (not in Detroit) when referring to it
A friend from Detroit finds it amusing.
Detroit style is the pizza du jour in my city currently. One place did it about a decade ago and now there's about a dozen of them.
Well, the Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut that every millenial is familiar with is a cheap Detroit style, but the term "Detroit style" hasn't been popularized until recently.
"Square pizza", or "the kind with toppings to the edge" has always been vague and difficult to find in some parts of the country, but is everywhere in Detroit/Michigan.
PINEAPPLE
Thin crust is my GoTo, but I like the pizza you posted
Me too usually, the crispier the better, but this one was super fluffy and crunchy too
Yeah! Yum!
Detroit! Not only easy to make, but the best crust as well.
That looks incredible, do you have a recipe you’re willing to share?
Seconded
Yes.
Pan pizza will always be my favorite. It’s also the only style crust that can hold my favorite toppings of pepperoni, meatballs, and basil.
Hawaiian
Love me some, but I gotta sub in pep for ham. I hope that’s not offensive. Of course, then it wouldn’t be a Hawaiian… 😇
My favorite pizza is whatever pizza is currently in my mouth at the time. Changes daily.
🤤😆 yep!
The free kind
DD
I love the way this pizza looks. 100% would eat. But how did you get it this shape? Did you cook it in an electric skillet?
I cooked it in a steel square pan in our oven, all my pizzas are home oven baked
I'm not very loyal to a specific kind. Hell, my wife and I make naan pizzas at home all the time for a quick and easy dinner. But I'd easily throw down money on the bad boy you posted here. Should I just give you my delivery address or....?
Naan pizza sounds like a good idea, I definitely have to make that.
Also if you want to pay international shipping I’d be glad to ship one out
Christ that looks good
FREE!
For dinner, it's always NY style, since I have a family-owned pizzeria two blocks from my porch. For lunch, NY slices or Detroit style are great.
Fresh
What’s my favorite pizza? Mmmmmmm…….yes!
I'm a long time NY style fan, but Detroit may have stolen the crown over the last couple years.
Pizza pizza
Mushroom..
Tortilla pizza, easy to craft and yummy 😋
Thin crust and Detroit.
NY Style and Detroit for sure.
I don't discriminate, I look at pizza the same way I look at music. Sometimes I'm in the mood for NY style, sometimes Chicago deep dish, other times I like a nice wood fired Neapolitan.
Arguing which style is better is like arguing what the best Pink Floyd album is. Entirely depends on the setting and mood.
Can't beat a deep dish on a chilly fall day, while during the summer a nice crispy thin crust hits right. If I'm pounding beers, pub style is hard to beat.
Except for California style pizza, that's never the right choice. Broccoli or avocado as a topping is /r/PizzaCrimes material.
Grandma
Checkout Kenji Lopez’s Detroit deep dish recipe. So damned good and easy.
Favorite? The pizza I have in front of me at the time. Is it always the best? No. Is it always delicious? No. But it's better than no pizza. So that's my favorite.
The next one
Chicago style thin crust and San Francisco style Indian pizza.
That's not deep dish op.
I’d kill for a chicken & garlic pie now. Detroit, NYC, OR Chicago style
NY
My favorite one would be the one with just tomatoes sauce, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and basil.
Yes.
I like all pizzas. Like most crusts. Iv head deep Dish and it’s good but I probably wouldn’t eat it again. Was a lot. But other styles I love. So good! Detroit: good! Think crust: good! Dominos has a good hand tossed. Digornio has a good hand tossed also.
Apparently, my favorite kind is exactly what’s in this photo!
Detroit
New Haven 100%…but the odd cutting method the traditionalists use is not my preference.
Chicago Tavern, New Haven, NYC
Thin crust with sausage, bacon, green peppers, mushrooms
I’d pay money for that
Okay , cheese pizza Only 😋😋😋
Fast food style stuffed crust
Thin and crispy is my go to
30 leyers of cheese and a little bit of mushrooms and cup of pizza sauce
That looks so good
Neapolitan, a.k.a.: New York Style Pizza. Thin, crispy crust with a chewy crumb (well-developed gluten), that can hold its own weight when you pick it up by the crust and fold it ever so slightly. That's a masterful work of culinary art that took pizzaiolos years to develop. All the rest are bastardizations of the original.
While I love many styles pizza, my favorite when growing up was " bakery pizza". It was thick crust sheet pizza loaded with any and all toppings. I loved the touch of sweetness in crust I haven't had again.
Neapolitan if I want to continue on with my day. Detroit if I'm calling it a night and spending the rest of the night on the couch.
This looks delicious. But if somebody served me a square piece of pizza, I would wonder if they disliked me for some reason.
Hey I just so happen am unable to make a good looking circle alright?
Plus the only clean steel pan I had was square one
Plus it’s hip to be square
Hey, if the intention was to make a circle, that counts. It’s the intentional disregard for established norms that might open a case for additional scrutiny.
And also an excellent attempt at a circle in a square pan. I would eat it if you cut it into a hexagon 😄
I appreciate this reference.
Ya I hate square slices, especially from round pizzas, tavern style.
NY style and Detroit
