Built my first PC in 8 years, went to turn it on and this happened. I don’t know what to do. Did that break the entire PC? How do I know what that is? Is that a result of something I did or a faulty part? ANY advice is really appreciated please 🙏
HILARIOUS. This happened to my daughter's PC about 6 years ago, you should have heard her scream. But anyways, you most likely blew out a capacitor in the power supply. Typically when this happens, the rest of the components are fine, there are safeguards built in that prevent it from destroying your PC. What you'll need to do is of course, unhook all the PSU cables, pull the PSU, and replace it with a new one.
Unless you have a warranty.
Unless you voided the warranty
Why was he recording before he turned it on?
I recorded the first boot of my recently built PC because it was the first one I have built from all brand new parts. Guess I am proud of it in a way and wanted to show my friends.
The same way i accidentally recorded myself starting my car after I changed the timing. It did not start lmao
Thankfully it was a fault of a position sensor and not my engine dying then and there
Edit: in case you all were curious
The engine suddenly stopping was the spark happening at the wrong time and pushing it backwards along with a small backfire lmao
It is fake, they shrinked me and made me go inside th3 pc and ignite the psu. Call interpol! /j
It's true, I was the power cord
You assuming that people who dont film their pc booting have an uneventful life???, how the tables have turned 😭😭😭😭😭
I was too busy enjoying what was in front of me to actually take out my phone and record it. I don't live my life through a phone screen 🤷♂️
PC monitor, however...
It’s always funny when people who take pics of everything try to shame people who don’t lol
It’s always funny when people who don’t take pics of everything try to shame people who do hahaha
They’re both pretty funny to me!
In other words, shaming people is hilariously stupid!
I was just thinking this after reading both lol
Yea same here, I regret not filming it tho because it was my first pc.
And that's okay. I'm sure most of us feel the same. I know I do, but there is no shame in getting caught up in the moment as well. We are only Hu..bzz za..beep...itbbo...man 🙃
Not everyone wants to record their memorable moments, some people prefer to live them.
People with eventful lives don't record turning on their PC.
I bet you've only watched live concerts through your phone screen.
I prefer experiencing something and relieve it through memory, than missing the moment in order to take a video I'll only re-watch once.
Your comment is fine except for saying that people have an uneventful life just bc they don’t take pics and videos of it. What a bad take that is
Oh didn't notice that was his first boot. I built mine last year around this time and I don't remember recording it.
Someone thinks that everything needs to be photographed to be remembered. I just don't like doing it.
No I don't. Just saying that some people do that...which is obviously true since before you've been born...
I dunno. For me I been messing with PCs all my life. I finally built a new one after like 20 years of laptops. No first boot video for me. I'm more concerned with watching what comes up in the screen than seeing it thru the phone.
Ive lived enough to not really give a fuck about living much more and i cant stand the idea of filming/taking pictures of everything. They are called memories for a reason
Because maybe they forget to hit record if they wait...
I have pictures of every computer that I've ever built from start to finish. I not only build for myself and friends but clients too. You would be surprised by people's reactions when you give them the pictures and then I tell them to show everyone the pictures of them building their own computers! Lol, I don't care who takes the credit at my age.
i record everything…. and also delete it afterwards when nothing special happens
One of my friends installed a new PSU a few years ago. At the press of the on switch there was a HUGE bang (one of those big caps blew up) and the electricity was down...in half the street. The elecricity company had to turn it back on at one of those utility boxes outside, it tripped something there.
And that kids, is how I met your mother.
How does that even happen?? Wouldn't the breakers in the house go first?
Load imbalance tripping. Basically, dude nuked his circuit breaker and the sudden voltage drop caused subsequent breakers to trip by pulling way more amps to compensate.
I wasn't so fortunate when one of the caps blew in my PSU in 2020. Killed every single other component unfortunately.
Unless he have a crappy psu...
It's not gaurunteed the rest is fine.
Can confirm psus fail kinda safely. Work cumpertr's psu blew up while running for a couple of minutes, kept running without anyone on the room and filled the place with smoke while still running. I just panick unplugged everything from the wall and the psu easy the ONLY casualty
This video has 2,073,600(1,080×1,920) pixels per frame!

Poorly doesn't work for comments
Thank you lol
heres the other picture btw
I have that exact power supply, should I be concerned?
I personally wouldn't use it, especially if you have any high end components. It literally exploded when GN tested it. Most PSU's are covered under warranty for 5-10 years and since Gigabyte mass recalled it, you should have no issue getting your money back.
They did rework the design after the recall, the new PSUs are fine so far. So anything after 2022 or something, should be fine.
Oh, thank god. That's my psu as well.
Even if I bought it years ago and it's out of warranty do you think they would still take it back? I got it off Newegg in like 2022 and it never worked
Looking at the build
I love this image.
most likley a critical PSU Failure,
Unplug the PC and Switch everything off.
Maybe send it to RMA
what parts did you use?
Ryzen 7 7800x3d, 4080 super 16gb, Corsair vengeance 2gb ddr5, gigabyte aorus b650 elite ax, Samsung 980 pro 2 tb, nzxt h6 flow, Corsair rm850
ok the PSU is from a trustable manufacturer, contact them with the video of the issue immediately
Jheez dude that's a nice pc. Yeah I'd be shitting myself if it sparked like that 😅
But re what everyone else said its probably a psu failure. Unplug the whole thing and send it back with video attached in email.
32gb***
Didn't know metro boomin had a son
I remember playing with pcs at school that had a little switch at the back of the PSU to go between 230v input and 110v. Switching it to 110 gave me a hell of a fright.
Hang on, that's what I did a couple of months ago. I was cleaning my own PC, switched it to 110v by accident. It didn't turn on, I put my head around back. BOOM. My eyebrows got singed off.
What?! I'm not too well versed in pc's, yet. But why would a psu have something like that if it's only good for a permanent eyebrow reshaping?
You let out the magic smoke
Childhood memories. But did you ever lever off a loaded capacitor (flash) of a disposable camera using a Screwdriver?
I lost a chunk of finger skin accidentally shorting a flash capacitor. You could say I got off lightly
Lmfao i did it too, im glad i got rid off dell PSU. Dont ask - it was shitty oem and i was looking for a sign to replace it. Didnt know its gonna blow up
Put it in rice
Fill it with beans
And sip some nice Chianti
Wrap it with tortilla and voila
This guy knows about the motherboards
Check your shorts, then look for shorts lol. Likely a capacitor exploded. Cut power, remove the PSU carefully after unplugging everything from it. Don't try turning it on again without carefully inspecting all connections and replacing the PSU. There is a chance multiple components got damaged but you never know so keep your fingers crossed.
What model PSU are you using?
I actually think it's fake but if real take it to a repair shop before you get hurt.
Swear to god it’s real this happened at 530 am last night
5:30am feels like the morning to me.
This made you feel old didn't it?
Yes, yes it did :(
Ok then....that could have been caused by a ton of different things. A loose cable going to the PSU, mixed power cables, faulty PSU, shorted board, power surge in your house, etc, etc, etc. I don't think you'll get that diagnosed like that in Reddit as it would require to see how healthy each part is in order to do a proper assessment.
Hopefully the PSU did its job and protected all other components but anyways, take it to a professional to have a look.
530am....last night...🤦♂️
its always at 5:30am 🤣
this happened to me in ~2004 around the exact same time i was just finishing up a late night, and ended up backing up and re-imaging, i went to lay down and when windows rebooted during the install the psu blew a cap out, scared the life out of me, was loud as hell 😆
why were you recording though
Why were you filming?
This is the most important question here.
I was wondering why would anyone just be recording nothing becore turning on their computer
Why did you decide to film yourself turning on your computer?
It was probably the first boot after the build?
Dead PSU (at least), would have to test every component, with a lil chance it's only the PSU.
God punishing you for having corner glass case
God was like jeez not another RGB open glas build
true
mfw when I see the 9000th “rate my PC build” that’s a H9 case with blinding LEDs and Funko Pop inside it
Let me guess it's a corsair psu and you used a non corsair cable.
I used all the cables that came with the PSU
He's got a modular PSU so ye could definitely be ! OP did u change anything before that happened ?
I know what happened cause my dumbass did the same thing to my rm1000x a couple months back. Lucky corsair had great support and replaced free of charge. Had a new psu in 10 days.
Did it cook any of your other parts?
If you have PSU of a decent manufacturer, other parts should be fine. But yep, most likely it is caused by either some lose cable, a cable plugged into an incorrect slot, or faulty PSU from start. In all cases you might claim for RMA.
Nope, only the psu. I plugged a non corsair molex cable in the pcie slot for lights. Just a flash from the psu and it was dead. Stupidest part was there was 2 molex to pcie cables in my corsair box but I didn't look. 🤦♂️
Is this a thing?
Cause I changed cables but everything is fine for that past year or so.
Our Ammo storage was hit! good thing it didn't explode.
I call PCI-e cable into CPU motherboard socket.
I mean, I probably wouldn’t do that again
I let out an audible laugh when I saw this. Replace the power supply and make sure it's set to the proper 110/220 rating
PSU exploding is something you dont want to happen. If it did explode you gotta pray to the IT gods that your PSU didnt take other pc components with it. I hope this will be a good lesson to you not to cheap out on PSU or always check its rating if it can handle your pc....
No chance you have a dual voltage (110V/220V) PSU and switched it to the incorrect voltage for your country? My mate did that and blew up just about all his components.
I thought doing that only fried the psu
Well now I know why my dad got a new pc instead of a new psu
get that psu out of there not to scare you but IT'S GONNA FUCKING BLOW
The Aorus B550 Elite V2 has an orange LED strip which flashes white upon boot up. I did not know this when I bought it.
Imagine my horror when I turn my new computer on for the first time and I see a white flash followed by orange glow in the back of the rig.
Well, you probably have cables connected wrong, and then your outlet probably isn't grounded, which makes a sparkle show.
Slow motion it appears the “spark” is outside the PC .
idk, it's a dual chamber case. Looks to me like there's a lot of light coming from where the PSU would be positioned on that other side.
Kinda looks like a PSU trying to protect you from frying your system or blowing up
damn, i hope that was a good gpu that didn’t completely obliterate your components
Holy shit 🤓….. Holy shit🤓
Kids, this is why you buy PSUs that are rated well, rather than on hi wattage alone lol
Why did you film it? Like was it the „first start“ which you wanted to film? Or did this happen after some amount of starts?
Also: your Psu has safeguards and everything so 99% of the time the rest is safe. If the psu is still under warranty I’d suggest you do a rma claim :)
Pray. that only your PSU is what blown up...
It's only light
Scam
If it’s a decent PSU, should be fine but also this should serve as a reminder to get a quality PSU no matter what level of budget you’re at.
So how many times has this happened if you were ready with the camera recording? Must video for reddit updoots no matter if its doing more damage.
And you just so happened to be recording? I say BS
You let out the magic smoke, something is probably dead. Mostly likely shorted something to the case.
If you're lucky, and didn't cheap out, your power supply jumped on the grenade and saved the rest of your system.
If you're unlucky or bought a Chinesium Bomb 2000 PSU then you're gonna have a bad time.
That is scary and why I went all out on my psu 🙀
specs? out of curiosity, what psu you used?
Stop turning it on, and replace the powe supply. That arcing is only going to happen from the high voltage side of the power supply failing
Watch your mouth young man.
Change your pants.
Must have used a gigabyte power supply
you sound like you are 11 years old did you build your last PC when you were in diapers?
Get a seasonic psu and be done with it.
What psu did you buy?
That was weirdly cinematic
Why was this filmed? I don't know about any of you. But I have never sat down at my computer and said to myself "and now, to film myself turning on my computer!"
First boot after building a pc which is probably an achievement for them. Maybe wanted to send it to a friend or just put it in this Reddit. Seems fair enough.
Delete the gay porn and keep the straight one....
Gigabye power supply?
I think you should first unplug it, turn off the switch of the power supply, then inspect the motherboard to see if any damage is visible (sometimes it's not unfortunately) then check all the cables plugged on the mobo and also on the PSU if it's modular. If you see anything (or not) take it to a repair center and give the guy what you might have found. Hopefully it did not kill your components fingers crossed here :(
Regardless if this is geniune or fake.
My advice for such unfortunate incidents is to always remove the elictrical cable! then you can swear as much as you want, heck, bust a nut even.
You should verify the CPU and GPU are plugged with their good cable (very similar)
Pray
Pray?
Replace the powersupply. Looks like you f'd up the 110/220 switch or it had a manufacturers defect.
the 110/220 switch? What is this, 20 years ago?
Psu needs to be replaced. Hopefully it didn't fry your motherboard or any components of it. Happened to mine 10+ years ago and it fried my internet inputs.
Considering il be building my brothers computer in a few hours - and the main difference between my own first build last year and his is the power supply...
My god that’s an oof.
Pray i'd suggest.. That cant be good.
👀
Thank God for ground faults
What kind of PSU did you use? I just want to make sure not to every buy one 😅
Bye bye
110v in a 220v household most likely Should have checked the switch I blew a PSU like this a decade ago x) Most parts should be ok but you'd better test them out one by one
It's all connected in parallel, most probably your PSU had an issue, looked like a blown up capacitor, just check your power supply from the source and the PSU before reconnecting. Rest all seems fine, great setup btw
Interesting
Did you set the standoff positions correctly for the motherboard?
the power supply wasnt having it that day, most probably was just the psu brother
Dead psu.. blew one when I changed gpu on a used pc. It was a very chappy budget psu and I could not wait for new psu to arrive. Just wanted to install things
Buy new better power supply if you have money, but anyway you need new power supply.
I wonder if it's a switchable PSU and the wrong voltage selected for wherever op is
you had too much magic stored in your hands, and let out a lightning blast as a result of stress
A big Capacitor on your PSU just blew
Well, I have 2 immediate thoughts. 1, you may have a faulty PSU. Get it tested, PSUs can be dangerous especially the low quality ones. 2, you may have made some mistakes plugging everything in, or even left a loose screw or something in the case and it's shorting out somewhere.
First thing I'm doing though is turning off the PSU and unplugging it from the wall lol
Goodluck my friend. Hopefully it's nothing major
Check to ensure you put in the standoffs in the case between the motherboard and the case? MB has connections that will blow if touching the metal of the case.
Wash it
Sorry to say man, but there are very few (even 0) components in your PC designed to be exploding - even on an infrequent basis.
Best you can do is try the most expensive parts like the GPU and processor in another system to see if they are ok, and finally the motherboard and ram isolated if possible or in a cheap set up to see if they are also ok. Mobo can potentially frag other devices if the PSU went bad.
PSU is definitely missing the thing that exploded so I'd not bother further testing on that.
Cry.
Damn your PC looks almost exactly like mine. Now I have second hand PTSD
Probably just a virus. Try McAfee.
ROFLMAO! The sarcasm in me was going to tell you to pray! But you sounded freaked out enough so I just couldn't do it. It looks new enough that the power supply should be under warranty and if not, then just consider it an upgrade and go with an 850 watt gold rated ps and you'll be all good.
Bad quality PSU + EPS 12v in 8 pin pcie
RM850e haha, the E series is a shit tier PSU with chinese caps. it exploded. Warranty time!
Make sure you post some pictures when it's up and running again. I enjoy checking out what people are coming up with.
Is this a real video?
Looks fake.
If it is real then they probably did something dumb like not getting a big enough power supply or mounting the Mobo directly on the case without the standoffs, causing a short.
But my vote is for it being fake.
Get an EVGA PSU. I've had my 850BQ since 2016
Erm, seems pretty staged so not going to even try to suggest stuff
Did you try cutting cost on the power supply? Not knocking, but I'm curious
RIP bro I’m so sorry, please keep us updated, please this is hilariously sad :(
Ah the stinky smoky metallic smell of a brown psu! OP if you aren't in the know most PSUs have crazy long warranties so check with the manufacturer as may get a free replacement
This happens waaaaay more often than anyone thinks, for first time or even just new builders, they just won't say, show, or record it like this. This, unfortunately, is the price to pay if you're ignorant or just don't know what you're doing yet. Hopefully, you have a warranty on the power supply or any other part you fried for that matter. I would start there, and if not, then I would take it to a shop and let them troubleshoot it unless you have enough money to replace part by part to see what else you fried.
Build
I'll bet your mobo is fried and that you used cables that didn't come with your PSU
What is the PSU brand and how old is it?
Som ting wong
What power supply brand was that? So I don’t buy it
That build is 🔥
Yeah that’s a capacitor. Get a new PSU but make sure your cables are not exposed to each other.
Although things can always happen, you get what you pay for with power supplies. I remember borrowing one off a friend years ago because mine went on me. I didn't know what was wrong so I swapped the PSU for testing. It was some cheap brand named Diablo but the power ratings were all past what I needed for testing. The thing was light as a feather compared to the one I was using and the moment I turned the computer on it blew when I saw smoke. 😆
Moral of my story: Don't use a cheap light weight PSU when you're running a high end video card.
You get a new power supply and see if that’s the only thing that broke.
