Might be new to PlayStation soon. Trading in Xbox One for PS4 at GameStop. Any tips?
Wait you can still get a PS4 at game stores?
Most definitely, I know my GameStop still carries plenty. Walmart too
Wish where I live still had them.
For starters, get the PS5 instead. I’m not saying the PS4 is a bad system, but why invest in last gen’s option when this gen has now been out for nearly 4 years and gets you better performance, plus both the PS4’s entire library and the newer games as they come out
Why not just get a ps5 at this point?
Bloodborne
Gran Turismo 7
I thought I was on r/PlayStation with how many people shilling the PS5 here. The PS4 is a solid system with a ton of great games, even now.
My advice? Don't pay for PS Plus unless you absolutely want to play online with friends. The subscription itself and game libraries aren't worth it IMO. Go to a GameStop with a hundred bucks and you'll walk out of there with a stack of great games. PS4 games, especially physical ones, are getting very cheap now and will be for a while until it's older and considered nostalgic.
My next piece of advice is to upgrade your harddrive. It doesn't require a full teardown to do like the Xbox One, and chances are the console you'll get will have the old hard drive it came with. Slap in a nice 1-4 TB drive and you'll be golden.
Honorable mention: check out the themes on the store. PlayStation 4 has so many cool and nice themes, static or dynamic.
I have seen the themes, even PS2 like theme. Very cool. Thanks for the tip!
One of my favorites is the 20th anniversary theme, definitely snag that one!
Once I get the console, will do!
If I were you I'd hold off for awhile and trade up for an Xbox series, you can't refund games on ps and a ps4 isn't really worth it these days, you're just gonna be stuck on last Gen till you can afford a pa5 which is way more expensive than an Xbox series S. If you do go ahead with this decision you really want to look at getting a ps4 pro rather than the slim ones, more storage and supports 4k. Better yet wait a bit longer and get a ps5 there's a night and day difference between generations
The last of us 1 and 2
Horizon zero dawn / expansions
God of war
For a start 😁👍🐺
Yep, I originally switched because I wanted to play HZD and TLOU. All of these plus ghost of tsushima & spider-man are incredible exclusives.
ZD before FW a requirement?
Of course it's not a "requirement" but basic common sense would say that you would play games in order.
So i should play gta 1-4 before trying out 5?
False equivalency, the GTA games aren't strictly chronological. Uncharted would be a better comparison.
Thats fair, thanks!
If you care about story definitely.
Yes and no.
Yes. Because..
Great game, fantastic story and lore, detailed world-building and a stellar experience all round.
No. Because..
You'll will get some 'fill in the story' but you're missing out on so much more. And there is frozen wilds expansion after ZD before BS...
Do you have digital purchased games on your Xbox? I wouldnt get rid of it unless your financial situation warrants it.
I dont know where you live, but ive seen PS4 slims for around $60 USD at pawn shops, and a Gamestop PS4 isnt going to be much better. If you are not interested in PSVR you really dont need a PS4 PRO which are still more expensive than they should be.
My only suggestion would be to put a 1tb ssd harddrive in the console.
Most of the games on PS4 are on Xbox one or you can play them through Gamepass, so there isnt really a big reason to make the switch.
The Order 1886, Alienation? I like both those games a lot.
you’re making the correct choice. well done 👏🏻
check out Ghost of Tsushima as one of your playstation exclusives to pick up 👍🏻👍🏻
Got it
Went PS4 and then PS5 after my Xbox 360. Don’t regret it.

Don’t have enough trade in money for it sadly
But then you won’t be able to afford games. Not trying to be offensive but I’m not sure if a same-gen trade is worth it man
I think it'll be worth trying to go for the ps5. Ps4 is still very capable. But with ps5 , just the qol and overall experience is better.
If you can, trade in for a PS4 Pro over the base model.
Some games like Horizon chug on base model, but shine on the PS4 Pro or the PS5.
Honestly I would save for the difference on a PS5, but if you are gonna go 4, get the 4 Pro.
Spider-man ps4 is an amazing game. Definitely get that first.
The Uncharted series is also really good but you need to play all 4 games in order to enjoy them since uncharted 4 is really boring if you're unfamiliar with the charecters and story
God of War is decent but I'd recommend either of the first 2 options much more if you're on a budget
I’ll make sure to do that. I’ve been wanting to play Detroit on there so I’ll remember that
hmmmm i guess it depends on how you are going to come in. I would say first try to find your old psn name and login. I would say make sure your xbox is erased completely and reset. I would say consider if you want/can get the top of the line ps4. If it is less than a certain amount I would have maybe tried to get a ps5 over the last couple of weeks when they were a little cheaper. I would say try to identify games you would like to play and also MOST importantly consider the games a call of duty is going to eat up your harddrive so i would say soon after buying the system before you put anything on it upgrade the harddrive. I jumped from 500gb to 2tb.
I’m getting a 1TB PS4 pro hopefully
Great idea just consider what you will buy. Before i put the 2tb in my machine i jumped it to a 1tb and between the saves and upgrades of games it wasn't enough. i had to get an external to help store some stuff. the upgrading harddrive is easy when its empty. When its not you need to find somewhere to offload that data before bringing it back. for example red dead 2 is above 100gb, nba 2k was above 100gb, call of duty was above 100gb and you maybe be getting around 800gb or so usable on that 1tb. If you get dlc, upgrades, etc. So keep the types of games you may want to buy in mind as well.
Best games I played on PS4
Uncharted 4 Spider-Man
it plays games. It doesn't make toast.
Go for a ps5 even if it's second hand. You'll future proof yourself for a good few years
PS4 was my first PS after being a Xbox fan since the original consol. Absolutely zero regrets and never felt a need to go back.
If I were you I’d seriously consider a PS5 over the PS4. Load times alone make it a worthwhile investment. Way quieter, superior performance, it’s worth the extra money.
Buy games on vinted. God of war for like 4€, Uncharted 5€, last of us 1-2 like 20 euro Total and so on. I bought a PS4 on vinted at 80€ and with a Total of 140€ i get 10 games and an extra controller
To start get a ps5.
Depends….if you’re heavily on multiplayer than I advise to get a ps5 and not even cause ps4 still got like a year or two left…..
But if you’re mainly solo then ps4 is more than perfect also get the ps plus membership (get the 2nd or 3rd tier, although the 3rd tier is a bit expensive) and you would be fine
You’ll have a great library to just dive into whatever games you want both exclusive and main/hype titles (for the most part but not all)
Buy a PS5.
Skyrim; for either the PS4 or PS5!
lol don’t trade ur Xbox in man you will get 20 dollars for it just keep it and buy a ps4
Great choice friend! I hope one day you get to experience the ps5 as well
Hi i have a problem with ps4.When i am trying to download a game disk while it starts downloading it suddenly it maks a sound like touuuttt and stops. I don't understand wt is going on
I don’t do tech support here man.
I just asked for help because i have a problem broo
Then post it on the subreddit.
I am neww lil bro i dnt know where to ask help so i found this and ...come don't get angry lil bro
Save up the few extra bucks and go for the PS5. You won’t regret it.
I don’t think it’s worth it. Just get a PS5 🤷🏻♂️
I’d say anyone that has a job and can afford to save up for a PS4 can afford to save a little longer for a PS5. The thing is people don’t really have the patience. Or they are really struggling and a 150 dollar system took them like 2 years to save up for. Like a used PS5 is like 440 about. That’s like 75 bucks a month saving for 6 months. And if you can’t afford to do that, well….We’ve let corporations convince us we should be spending beyond our means.
Xbox one is 250 plus games make the ps4 easy to get but PS5 is expensive I’d get it if I could
“Just” a ps5 cost like 500 bucks at least
He can get some money back from his Xbox one. I sold mine for 200€ 8 months ago
Welcome to the PlayStation family
Check out PlayStation Plus Extra, it’s the sweet spot for the game pass-like library. Premium has more but is also more expensive, so it’s worth assessing what tier you deem worth your time and money.
I used to pay for Game Pass Core which had a few game but online, I’ll make sure to buy the cheapest or the best one that doesn’t break the bank and has better features. Thanks for the tips!
The Last of Us is great game to play. Also add the Playstation app to your phone its pretty handy.
What features is on the app?
Download and buy games straight to your console.
You can buy games, send messages to friends etc
Holding down the PS button for around 8 seconds will turn the controller off but leave the console on. Great for preserving battery while you are downloading a game or watching a movie.
Honestly PlayStation Plus will give you a lot to start for just $17. The catalog has a lot of games that people will probably suggest and it’s a great way to get introduced to the PlayStation exclusives.
The only tip I can give you is dont beat yourself up too much for wondering why you didn't do it sooner.
Just get a month of ps+ extra, play god of war, ghost of tsushima and be happy
If you're entirely new to the PlayStation ecosystem, it might be worth looking into buying a couple of months of PlayStation Plus extra/premium. A huge amount of the core PS4/ps5 games, especially exclusives, are on this service. Imo Extra is most bang for your buck at $15 USD/month. As a new transplant to the ecosystem, you could probably get an easy 6 months out of just using this service before you feel the need to buy any games a la carte
Edit: A lot of people are trying to brow beat you into getting PS5, and though I understand where they are coming from, you really can't go wrong with getting a PS4. Even if they stop PS4 support TODAY you would still have a large library of new games to work through. That being said, it is looking like PS5 pro is right around the corner which could make base models cheaper and/or surge the resale market. Just something to consider. If you waited this long it might pay off to wait another few months
