i 100% know about it and get that. that's why i specifically said stranger (because in ur case you're indirectly technically donating your kidney so your family gets it).
let's say there's 10 people who need kidneys. Each have a family member willing to donate if they get one.
But the problem is, not 2 sets are a match of exchange with each other. The whole system failed and not one gets a kidney.
Here's the solution. One person gives a kidney for free. This kicks off a chain reaction, Because the Loved one of the person who gave up there kidney then sends there kidney to someone else. So the one original donor effectively saves the lives of old 10 people, along the chain reaction of kidney donations.
I am aware of this dude, I am a nurse and worked in a kidney transplant unit for 1 year. But this is a question for people who donate without having a family member on the list. Like someone who posts an ad on facbeook asking someone to donate a kidney, i go get tested and i'm a match. I donate a kidney, i'm off work for 2-3 days given there are no complications. That's that.
So I applaud people who do donate but just ask curiously why someone would do that without anything of value in return (i.e. in this case you do not have a family member who is getting someone else's kidney in return for your donation). thanks for answering tho
so why are you asking the questions?
did you read the response you replied to?
why someone would do that without anything of value in return (i.e. in this case you do not have a family member who is getting someone else's kidney in return for your donation).
risking 1 human life to saves 10 human life's is a good return on investment. Lots of people would do something dangerous to save a large group of other people.
same reason someone runs into a burning building to save people
The reward being you’ve hopefully saved and/or elongated someone’s life.
For a normal healthy adult the procedure can provide two people with a long healthy life.
I think it’s quite an honorable thing to do, sometimes humans just want to help other humans :)
100% honorable. I just think the risk is too high of unnecessarily going under anesthesia. I applaud the folk that do tho
I have two kidneys and although I can live with one kidney there are inherent risks with surgery which can cause problems for me?
Life is a risk. You can go to sleep tonight, someone could break into your home to steal your television, you wake up and startle them, they shoot you in the abdomen damaging one of your kidneys. – And, before you think that to be a preposterous notion...
The odds of a household being a victim of a home invasion in a given year are about 1 in 77.
The estimated odds of dying from elective surgery within 30 days of the surgery are 1 in 100 at most.
There is also a possibility my family members may need one.
There's also a possibility that they won't. Also, not everybody has surviving family members.
why would I spend the time in recovery?
This it's probably the best question for your argument. It's not just the recovery that somebody needs to take into consideration, but the fact that they should also expect to take medications daily for the rest of their life to maintain their remaining healthy kidney.
Why would anybody donate a kidney to a stranger?
Strangers are still someones. Not all someones have have somebody's in their life that are in a position to help them. But, you have that capability to allow another person the opportunity to live. Yes, it may inhibit your quality of life to some degree, but by choosing not to donate to somebody that you know you can help means that they will not have a quality of life, at all.
No, it isn't anybody's responsibility to do it. No, you don't have to do it. You shouldn't feel like there's an obligation to do it. People do it because they want to do it though, and there is nothing wrong with that either.
good solid response man appreciated reading that
I know some people have done that because they believe that God would be happy with them.
Some people aren't selfish assholes?
Also, if you donate a kidney and yours go bad, as long as you aren't a drug/alcohol addict, you normally always go near the top of the list.

Some people sign up to donate a kidney, but only if there loved one gets a kidney from someone else. it's a big problem of trying to match up doner with people in need. So one person donating to a stranger can kick of a chain reaction. Basically that's a hero who saves one or dozens of human lives.
