In Germany, WW2 and the fact that we were in the wrong side and a lot of innocent people killed.
What was the worst thing to happen to your country in history?
That did not happen TO our country, but you are right. Someone from the Republic of Congo could easily state this
Famine or laundries for unmarried mothers
Damn what country
Ireland
For China, it was Japanese invasion. The horrific crimes and atrocities that the Japanese committed, they were worst than Nazi Germany and I seriously mean it. All I can say is Unit 731, Nanking Massacre,Comfort Women, and the fact that Japan even isolated Chinese in south east asia and killed them selectively and pass anti Chinese laws are enough to make the blood boil. To top it off, Japan has never apologized nor have they taught this in their curriculum.
Don’t get me wrong, I do want to visit Japan one day, and Japan is a nice country, it’s just that they have not apologized nor given any tribute to war crime victims. Japanese people are good. Many Japanese I have come across are very hospitable and kind people that are ashamed of their countries wrong doing, but the government fails to acknowledge this war crimes. Not to mention, In Germany, they have given every German involved in WW2 a trial and punishment and Germany apologized, destroyed and banned its horrific remains of its past. The soldiers of nazi Germany were sentenced, given death sentence and they made sure this doesn’t happen again and that they teach this in their schools, nowadays Germans are ashamed and fear any wrong mention of praise of their countries past will be met with strict discipline. In Japan, the people are ashamed, but the government has done nothing. In Japan the war criminals were never trialed. They are let free and alive and most still are prominent figures or have children/grandchildren/great grandchildren who are prominent. Their rising sun flag as well as their history like the “soldier memorial” are still up. Imagine Germany having a museum for Nazi soldiers.
Wow. I’m so sorry to hear that.
Yes, Germany has regret its wrong doings. I hope Japan does the same soon.
The more I read about what happened then, the more sickening it gets. I am aware of many other atrocities through all of history but this one is just beyond insane.
I live in Canada, and it's gotta be the initial treatment of the indigenous people who lived here for centuries before the colonials arrived.
Yes, as well as the US. Actually more US
Unfortunately so 😟
1000 years of killings & invasion by the Chinese and 100 years of colonization by the Japanese, French and American.
Biggest part of my country history is a disaster. But the worst part started after Peter I decided to rebrand moskoviya.
Hm. Let me guess. Ukraine, Chernobyl disaster?
Bingo, but Chernobyl wasn't worse than Holodomor and only future would show if it was worse than current war.
Tricle down Rogernomics in NZ in the 1980s, 90s, 2000, 2010s, 2020s -ongoing neoliberal extremismism, and public austerity claptrap that has now infected all political paries to a degree tgat even the upper middle class, in a classless society are feeling the pinch. These days the rich bottle this piss before cloberimg the poor with it.
American here. The American Civil War.
Trench warfare was a thing in the civil war, it was precursor to the gun technology we had just shortly after in WW1. It was mostly muskets tho, gatling guns were used briefly.
When the country split, the best generals we had were confederate. The union had more supplies, had trains, and weapons but were mostly mililtia by time the war ended.
600k-1 million americans, free or slave died.
American civil war was worse than the colonization of the Americas?
Or are you saying USA didn't exist then I guess.
2007/2008 post election violence in Kenya.
I always grew up thinking that tribalism and ethnic hatred was a thing of the past. Seeing my neighbour's kid get slaughtered because they were from the 'wrong' tribe made me realize we were still uncivilized
Black Death, its not even close. 60-80% mortality
The thirty years war.
I mean Germany wasnt really a country at the time but other than that its pretty clear imo.
The United States invading our country taking advantage of political instability and taking almost half of our territory.
Civil war
Colonization. I imagine this would be #1 for a lot of countries and would have led to a lot of the answers people give here.
British?
Joe Biden
Yeah, but for which country :-)
Obviously the home base but the way he butt fuc**d Iran, and I can only imagine what his Taiwan strategy will be other than wack. He makes very few references to Kim Jung like he's afraid of not being able to make his country club pals money. Sleepy Joe and Putin only care about cementing their own legacy in history. They both need a rifle and a MRE and sent to the front line
Wild that you actually believe that Joe Biden is the worst thing to happen to the US.
US: Probably 9/11
Oh. Are we forgetting slavery? Jim crow? Lynching?
9… 11.
Nah. The Japanese invasions of US territories in the weeks after Pearl Harbor killed more than twice the number of American civilians that died on 9/11. It also resulted in an additional 14,000 American civilians becoming prisoners of Imperial Japan. 11,107 of them died in Japanese captivity. It's just not talked about because US history classes go from Pearl Harbor straight to Hiroshima getting nuked, and ignore everything in between.
USA Trump
Trump. Guess where I’m from. 😂
Establishment of the Fed.
Belgium, I would think any of the world wars.
