As someone that’s never used a urinal, I don’t get how people are so comfortable using urinals.
From what I understand the rule is that you should space yourself out as much as possible between 2 user or at least skip one space. Following that logic does it not make much more sense to simply go to a stall instead and create even more distance between you and other people?
Yeah, the decision is quite simple: I need to pee, there is a place that i can quickly and easily pee without anyone getting angry at me. So i pee.
The "leave a space" thing is just for slow times, when not every urinal is taken, and for me, i don't just do that for urinals, but pretty much everywhere. If there's lots of space, i leave a buffer. At the beach, at the movie theater, at restaurants, standing in line for something, camping at a campground, driving, parking, etc. Pretty much any time there's a lot of extra space, I'll leave more than the minimum space required between me and anyone i either don't know or isn't a close friend, and the size of that buffer is proportional to the extra space available. If I'm camping at a big campground and it's just my family and one other, I'll pick a spot that i can't even see the others if possible. If there's just enough space to leave 1-2 sites between me and other people, i do that. If it's nearly full, i just take a spot next to people that seem least likely to annoy me or be annoyed by me. I don't see any reason not to do this.
What I mean is that people generally at least from what I understand tend to keep a maximum distance between users, so why not just distance yourself even more by using a stall?
Urinals faster, plus you don't have to touch the toilet seat, and you don't have to worry about accidentally getting piss on the toilet that some poor shmuck is gonna have to wipe up if they wanna take a shit. Also there's usually like a 1 : 5 ratio of stalls to urinals, to me the stall is reserved for people needing to shit
The distance isn't some law of nature, if all urinals are needed, all of them are used.
No flushing or closing and locking a door makes peeing that much faster

I don’t find it weird at all, urinals to me are a super convenient option to just go in, do my business, wash my hands and get out. It’s only weird or uncomfortable if you think about it that way lol. There is an unwritten rule amongst men to keep 1 urinal of separation between each other to make it less “uncomfortable”, but that’s only if possible
I find it to be weird being practically shoulder to shoulder with someone while holding your ween. But that’s me.
We grew up with situations where we were occasionally naked around others or even peeing into pit toilets so urinals are a luxury.
I've never thought about it before. I just know that I have to pee, and I've always used urinals without issue.
OP, are you asking this question as a man who has never felt comfortable using a urinal, or as a woman who doesn't understand how men can feel comfortable using a urinal?

I use urinals and I don’t care about any other person using them. I could even take a shit at a urinal and flushed it down
On the other side it's kinda weird to me that some people are so annoyed to share the same space. I mean I understand that every one prefer ti have more space when it's possible, but, it's like on trains or buses when everybody puts his handbag on the seat next to him, even when it's obviously gonna be taken considering the crowd around. I find it so childish.

I've been using urinals since I was a young boy, too young to notice any issues with it.
The idea of maintaining distance is a bit of a meme though it has some truth. Many public bathrooms don't have long rows. In restaurants and stores, it's often 1-3, so you have to stand next to someone.
Besides, my husband and I often use adjacent urinals.
I think the subtext of this question is: how is it that, despite the male urine spout being pretty much front and center on the body, for men peeing is an absolute non-issue (u/Guachole seems to speak for them all when he says he “doesn’t care if someone sees his dick”) — and yet women, whose piss-emitting apparatus is 100% invisible when in use, are apparently in such mortal danger of being seen whizzing that entire political movements center on making sure that only women are in women’s restrooms?!
Whaddup with that? You guys are standing around holding your actual genitalia out in front of you with no stalls or anything, and yet women, for whom an observer would have to actually be inside the toilet to see anything, are in mortal danger and must be protected at all costs?!

Yes, I always use a stall when a stall is available.
Been using it all my life, seen 0 cocks, not sure how many people saw mine, but its rare that went you enter a toilet that most of them would be occupied if they are, you go to the toilet. Thus, there is nothing uncomfortable about it, so you should focus on why you are so uncomfortable, because it's normal thing to do.

As a trans guy I try to avoid them as much as possible but because many men’s bathrooms are different then women’s you don’t get much choice sometimes.
Lots of bars have no doors on the stalls so it’s basically the same as a urinal just with bigger side walls.
Many music Venus (I go to a lot of metal shows) will have 20 urinals and 1 stall. You can either wait 20 min for a stall or 5 min for a urinal.
Many toilets are so gross and clogged with poop so again urinal is cleaner
Many places with urinal are also public bathrooms where it’s really nice to be able to go in, not touch any doors and just pee, wash your hands and walk out. It’s faster and cleaner.
Urinals aren’t my go to choice, would literally prefer peeing behind a dumpster but often times it is the most logical solution.
Ultimately: no one wants to use one but they are convenient.
