UK visitor - FKK still a thing?

Hallo all! I will be in Munich for mid May and wondered if FKK is still something that is widely practiced? I went to the woods in Berlin and was suprised to see it that there were hundreds of people there, of all types, all nude. It wasnt creepy old men hidden behind rocks - it was wholesome, healthy, natural. I have tried to google places i could go but FKK seems to also bring up very different things that aren't the natural vibe I'm looking for.

where would you suggest in Munich (or easily found via public transport nearby) as somewhere that is in keeping with the healthy, pure FKK vibe, and widely used?

There are several spaces, yes. Some parts of the "Englischer Garten", also some beaches at "Feldmochinger See" and at the Isar. You can find a list here - you might have to translate the page:

If you want something that feels wild, I would recommend Ickinger Weiher, a lake made of an old stone quarry. You take the S-bahn to Icking and then walk down over the foot bridge to the lake, like 15 minutes. The southern end of the lake is a pebble beach where most people are nude. It's also a beautiful lake to do open water swimming. But it'll be cold in May!

I remember an extremely hot day in May, when I was studying in Munich 15 years ago. I took a longer break to go to the Eisbach in the English Garden. It was completely crowded with people, both naked and dressed, all mixed together. A friend later told me that there was one bank of the Eisbach for the naked people and one for the dressed ones. This boundary was clearly not there. also, the Eisbach is only like 2m wide, so the boundary would have been quite virtual anyway. I saw a naked 60-year-old doing a headstand wearing a ring around his penis and scrotum. Next to him, a family was having a picnic and a group of students was drinking beer. Must have been an absolutely crazy impression for someone coming from a less liberal country.

But I don't know if it's still like that there.

This is exactly how I found Teufelssee lake in Grunewald forest, during my Berlin trip. It was just totally different - no sense of it being anything other than pure and innocent. sometimes, some nudist places I have been have an undercurrent but this was so wholesome, i hope to find it again!

Depends on the weather, May is not always that warm. There is an official list, where it is legal in the city. One of the most surprising place is in the middle of the big park, Englischer Garten. TBH, this must have been a thing 30 years ago, but nowadays only old pervs try it. It is a busy place, don't try it I would say.
Flaucher is the most convenient place. There is an island and river, people chill there and grill and listen to music, really hippy place. Other than that, there a few small lakes around the city with designated beaches, but those are easier to reach by car.
Other than that, spas and saunas has an FKK cultural all year, you must know that from Berlin.

As long as OP is okay worth the fact that Flaucher is frequented mainly by gay men.

I think the "Northern" corner of that island is the gay spot, while the other end at the bridge is family friendly. The Flaucher area is pretty mixed with families and friend circles, I wouldn't say it is only gay

I'm there pretty often and it's so mixed idek if you could say it has a specifically gay vibe. I'd say it's just more easygoing Müncheners of all types.

My 14yo has pointed out there's "a lot of aging, grilled meat on display" though, but that's teens for you.

Makes no difference to me as long as it's not a "cruising/hookup" area - that is not the vibe i am looking for

It is ironic that the FKK zone at the Englischer Garten is in the old horse riding parade grounds, not too many stallions there if you ask me.

Why can't creepy old men be in the nude in places designated for that purpose without getting attacked like that

It's the creepy part that's the problem, not the old (though a lot of people just assume we're creepy, which sucks, but I also get it).

I get the difference between good and bad creepy (I'm good creepy). I think it's generally agreed that if you're looking at people in such a way that makes them uncomfortable, it's bad creepy.

the whole purpose of my post is to try and find a place where they don't go, which is just my preference - I'm not saying they shouldn't be there, or trying to stop them from being there. not an attack :)

Also, i don't think there are any places designated just as spots to be creepy, are there?

And what do you think it's telling? That I don't want to be in a nudist setting with people who have intentions that don't align with mine, i.e intentions that i'd consider "creepy?

If that's what it's telling, then yes, that's why I said it.

Unfortunately, older men going to beaches alone to gawk is a serious problem, not one I want to be associated with, hence my trying to find an alternative place.

Actually, no, you're wrong for a few reasons:

I can of course google where they are, but that's not all I'm asking. Google results are often quite old and rarely explain the vibe, or how well used they are. I need a local to tell me what they're like presently. Also, the best links are often in German, i can translate them once i find them but finding them is harder since i don't speak German or understand the nuances of FKK culture enough to phrase my searches well enough to get what i need. Also as i explained, FKK brings up sex clubs on Google, so google searching doesn't do the job because it conflates FKK with swinging and they are not related at all.

So please, if you don't have anything to add of use or value, feel free to remain silent - it would be a less embarrassing contribution from your perspective
