My great-grandmother passed away recently and visiting the cemetery where all of her family is buried really has had me thinking this week. She was 85 when she died. Her birth mother died when she was 11 months old at the age of 18 from complications from child birth (she delivered twins). Her mom’s mom was 20 when she died. Her mother was 41, the oldest that I could find going back like 10 generations. I know that women died from other things back then but I also know childbirth was very dangerous and had a high mortality rate.

I have 4 children and all were born by C-section. My oldest was born via emergency C-section because he was stuck. If I had not been in a hospital I probably would have died. So I’m wondering, would you have survived childbirth given how things went for you during labor?
