Good game design ✅
I know this is a meme page but gaht damnit give this man some more updoots
Good campaign ✅
Halo 1 and 2, half life, AC1, Men of war, etc
Bad graphics ✅
(I just like it. It creates a unique atmosphere that good graphics can't replicate. You also have to fill in the gaps, which makes it more immersive - like reading a book. Also it's not overwhelming. I could continue...)
I think nostalgia plays a big role as well ✅
True, it plays a role. But it's definitely not just nostalgia.
Good mechanics ✅
Warcraft 3, games looks amazing even today because of how all the characters pop in the game, not to mention those sexy ability and unit icons
100%! Stylized graphics will hold up forever, take the Sly Cooper games for example
I for one love those old "bad" graphics. A lot of modern AAA games (western titles especially) look so samey and soulless in comparison.
True. Maybe that’s why so many people loved Cyberpunk despite its rocky start. One of the very games released by a big developer that didn’t feel copy paste.
I guess I should also say the story is pretty good. (Currently playing 2077 for the first time)
I also agree the story is pretty good. (currently replaying 2077 for the 4th time)
Agreed for the most part. RDR2 is fucking beautiful.
Way back when, games were made on niche engines or they wrote their own for new games.
These days everyone’s using unreal, unity, and other huge development tools and that can lend to that “samey” feeling because they all use similar lighting/animation styles
oh yea low poly therefore BaD GrApHicS 🤓🤓🤓
Imagine being too young to understand this is literally true.
So spoiled by being born into 3d graphics. Never having to wait literal decades for things to get better.
I get what you're saying but I think what he was trying to say is that older gen graphics may be considered less "realistic" but it's not fair calling them "bad". Because they can be low poly or pixelated even, but still be considered "good" if they do a good job fitting in the overall asthetics of the game.
Though most old low poly 3D games are simply bad looking. I believe low poly aged the worst, the games before them aged better. For example Doom 64 and other pixelated 2D games aged fine.
It is a little bit of a shame that tech has plateaud so heavily... it's no longer exciting to go to the next generation. Just more of the same.
Everyone out there loving oow poly until they get hit with PS1 hagrid
Oh there's worse stuff out there.
So much worse.
Well, yeah, they're literally bad by today's standards. That doesn't mean they can't look tasteful.
Men of culture
Are people seriously not able to discern the difference between "old graphics" and "bad graphics"?
old graphics are usually bad graphics
literally most retro shooters:
what about them
There's just nothing like Half-Life GoldSrc
Play the puppet combo horror games
Me playing dragons dogma 2 that has graphics that would be good a decade ago, not giving a shit because the game is a goddamn masterpiece.
(It literally looks hardly any better than dragons dogma dark arisen which came out in 2016)
I've been playing DDDA lately. I haven't played 2 but I've seen plenty of videos. The difference in graphics is pretty clear
Some of the fine character details(like faces) are a bit better and the textures are a bit nicer, but thats about it imo.
Basically nicer textures and more polygons but the graphics definitely arent on par with many other AAA games coming out recently
Mohaa
game is game.....
Deus Ex GOTY
one of the best games ever
I second this motion
It really depends on the game.
Been playing silent hill 1 and return to Castle Wolfenstein lately 😎
Y'all never had the beautiful taste of 8bit shit?
NFS Most Wanted 2005 ✅
don't you dare say those graphics are bad, I'm yet to see a game where asphalt reflects sunlight so beautifully, specially during/after raining
I was beginning to doubt me saying that the graphics are bad. The game looks so good.
Honestly graphics are consistently awesome since SNES gen with the exception of very early 3d
Or earlier, Batman on the NES still looks badass
True but most NES games are a pain to the eyes, that's why I didn't include it
The edgier the better
There's more to a game than graphics:
Story Gameplay Tone Art Direction Soundtrack Replayability
biblically accurate cybertruck driver
One overtook me today, scared the shit out of me seeing LOD6 driving by with all of its 16 triangles. I thought reality hadn't fully streamed in yet
Honestly I'm one to often not be able to handle old games, but rn I'm having a blast with Kotor 2.
I'd love if it was vortex supported and there was a mod for dummies to make it a Lil bit more comfy
Fallout 3 still looks good
Sometimes the bad graphics add to the game 😭
I don't have an idea if I can get old games officially now. I used to pirate them on my old laptop cuz they were really all it could run, but I still want to get back to playing them now without risking viruses, any suggestions?
Half-Life 🗿
I'm playing donkey kong 64 now and must say I enjoy it a lot.
Chad 64
In my case it's because that's the only stuff my PC can run without catching fire
I will always prefer the sprite work of Pokemon gen 1 - 5 over 3D models. Just a sucker for pixels
Ive had people dig at me for enjoying games with bad graphics. But if youre playing a videogame JUST because it looks pretty, youre a moron.
If the graphics ruin a good experience for you then you were never in it to enjoy the game in the first place
The sketchy shit I would do for a sega genesis and a copy of shadowrun.
I am going to Ultrakill™ you
"I don't know anything about this game but I bought it because it looks like it has really good graphics."
- Literally no one
Art style and game play will ALWAYS beat out graphic quality
Golf With Your Friends comes to mind.
now: pixels
back then: polygons
Retro games for the win!!
I, a Cruelty Squad player, approve this message
I seek everything but graphics
MANKIND IS DEAD.
HELL IS FULL.
The quality of the game is more important then it's graphics
when games don't need internet to work. and no updates.
Or just games with “rethro” graphics in general, can’t believe people say ultrakill looks bad, like i don’t know what’s on my screen 90% of the time, how can you judge something you can’t see?
Shenmue anybody?
The graphics were never a problem for me. I always had a problem with the bad movement and controls. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love good games, old or new, but I find it very annoying to finick around with out-dated controls.
Morrowboomers
I play old games because of the graphics, not despite the graphics
Not bad Graphics, just Old Graphics
old but gold
Bad graphics? No. Dated graphics? Yesss

good graphics ❌
good art direction ✅
