u/Michigan-ModTeam so uh... why is this removed? there is literally a paywall free article. usually you all seem to do a good job of modding here but this is kinda stupid.
Yeah, that’s not surprising. We treat incarcerated people as literal second class citizens. It fosters a mentality that they are not humans who may have made a mistake. Yes, all criminals deserve rehabilitative justice. Not punitive method of throwing away the key.
It’s literally written into the constitution that prisoners can be treated like slaves. Combine that with profit seeking prisons and a justice system that only applies to poor people, and you’ll have this outcome.
America really needs to have a conversation, but in this climate that will NEVER happen.
Anyone who has had the misfortune of being aquinted with a CO knows that this shit is far from beneath them. CO's are the shit streaks of society; even in a decent state like Michigan.
As the daughter of one, often the only difference between who is on which side of the bars is simply who didn’t manage to get caught. My dad shared so many stories of prisoner abuse like they were funny 🤮
Certainly sounds on brand based on my own experiences with these weirdos in social circles.
They’re even worse at home.
One I knew literally said, word for word: "I get to beat the shit out of brown and black people all day," and was laughing about it.
From what I've heard from someone who works at supervised visitation for families in court, If you think police officers DV with family numbers look bad, you wouldn't believe how awful the corrections officers can be. Night and day difference
Every CO (assuming "corrections officer") I've ever met, I literally responded in my head with "I can't believe they let this person be a CO."
Yup. Corrections officer.
Typically posessing traits like; substance abuse, little to no patience, authoritarian to their families, hatefully opinionated af, seemingly low IQ & prone to violence.
My neighbor is a former CO. She married one of her former inmates. She became the kind of parent that shaved her son's head in his sleep because his hair was too long. I spent a lot of years looking out for that kid where I could.
It's no secret that a good ol' boy culture exists among COs, and that they cover up for one another. It's pretty nieve to publish a piece trashing them and not expect retaliation. Wait until you are off paper. Writers are supposed to be smarter than that.
The FOIA referenced in the slides applies only to the Federal Gov't, not the State on Michigan. If you're going to post this stuff at least get it right.
Perhaps it’s true, perhaps it’s not. Remember, he is a criminal. Would he really hesitate to lie to make himself the victim? I have a good friend that works in corrections and he has no issues saying what really happens there. At least in the prison he works at, this assholery doesn’t fly. Inmates are still people and need to be treated as such. Is it happening? I don’t know but take things with a grain of salt.
Is it happening?
The tape that MDOC refused to produce would be pretty good evidence either way, just saying.
Just deep throat the whole authoritarian boot. Can the Mods do something about the fat blue line guys brigading this sub ? This shit happens everyday in Michigan jails and prisons. The job. Attracts. Psychopaths. Pretty well known and documented.
Remember, he is a criminal. Would he really hesitate to lie to make himself the victim?
Rhymes with Rump.
