This Campground Near Michigan's Mackinac Island Was Just Named the Best in the U.S. — and It's Between 2 Crystal-clear Lakes.
NewsI would leave early, hit the falls, and on the way back shoot over to Sault Ste Marie to see the locks. Might get back late but it’s an itinerary for the day. One day is enough on the island so that’s another option.
That’s a hell of a day
Right? That's a two day job.
I’m speaking as someone engaged and with no dependents so I think it would definitely be possible.
Did this exact day trip last summer and it was a great time. Whitefish dinner in st Ignace to cap off a long day.
Man I love me a whitefish dinner.
Worth it.
Driving two hours to see stuff is pretty common in the UP.
We are all Michiganders… and it’s the UP… speed.
LET'S SAVE YOU GUYS A CLICK
FYI you can hop on to the North Central State Trail close by and ride your bike 2 hours to mackinaw city
Went last summer, highly overrated. Nice campground but definitely not best in state, let alone US.
I’ve been there. It is really nice. And friendly.
Best campground
RV Resort
Pick one
Exactly my thought.
“Those who find Indian River RV Resort booked should check out the On the Saco Family Campground in Brownfield, Maine (No. 2 on the list) or The Nugget RV Resortin Saint Regis, Montana (No. 3).”
Was this written by AI? Or do the folks at Travel+Leisure think this is how camping works?
Yes. These articles are increasingly written by AI. There have been some stories about horrendously inaccurate travel sites and blogs and listicles because of it.
This article made me dumber.
Rv resort and campground are not the same thing to me.
You'd have to pay me to stay there!
Check out the rates.
Nearer Mackinaw City, since Mackinac Island is in the middle of the lake. Just sayin...
The cross in the woods is close to that right?
Yep.
I ran into that thing in the middle of the night, never hearing about it beforehand
I grew up in a little town called elk rapids not to far from there, I had no idea it existed until I had a friend get married there in my early 20’s
Weirdly think I’ve been here before
“To the north, campers can check out Tahquamenon Falls…”
Yeah, just a quick two hour drive away. 🙄
