I have dozens of packs of water, perishable goods etc. I live about 2 hours away, if I were to make the drive to Kzoo, does anyone know how to donate these goods to those families in need specifically?
Ways to help those impacted by yesterday's catastrophic Kalamazoo tornado?
DiscussionFire station drop off is your best bet. I'd call ahead. They might have more than they need at this time.
Thanks for the suggestions folks. Got ahold of Portage FD, dropping off a couple hundred bottles of water, some perishable goods and food.
The Red Cross is at Assembly of God Church on Oakland Dr. It is currently a shelter and they have asked for canned goods and can openers. This is right off I-94 so you would avoid the traffic in damaged areas.
Good on you!!
Contact their local United Way or find out where Red cross is organizing, you also might asking in local facebook groups
I was apparently greatly misinformed. I had read that it didn't even touch down. Same with the one in Coldwater. Thanks for bringing attention to this!
There was one in Portage that did a ton of damage
Two in portage
There were 4 confirmed
I’m a weather observing fanatic, if there is a storm going on I want to see it. Anyway I was watching the radar yesterday and there were atleast 7 active tornadoes spread between Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
Meee too!
Mom used to tell me stories about the Palm Sunday tornados. She & her siblings were living in Onsted MI at the time and home alone when the farm was hit. ( grandparents ran a diner in the irish hills and were working )
Been fascinated with weather/weather patterns/storms ever since.🤓
We actually had a localized tornado a few years back that went almost solely over our farm and destroyed a bunch of stuff, for instances lifted a hay wagon 200 yards away, twisted a tree, and knocked one into our house.
Dang! Mother nature man. ( or global warming? ) Anyway, weather is fascinating.
We didn’t even know it was a tornado until after it happened, the flag spinning rapidly around the flagpole was a bit disturbing
Oh geeze! I bet it was!
We watched as the outside became pure white, couldn’t see 10 feet away.
I grew up in northern Indiana.
Tornadoes are not uncommon, though I have never seen one.
I think the last time I can remember a tornado warning for St Clair County was about five years ago.
If I had to take a guess, it would be to share that there was conflicting news on the topic and express gratitude to the OP for bringing attention to it, as was explicitly stated in the message you're expressing confusion of. I used to live in Kalamazoo, so now that I know about the damage, I too would like to assist.
Edit: I apologize for my snarky response. I see now your username and understand that it was an honest reading comprehension issue. If you need help progressing to Elementary School, I'm happy to help tutor.
Red Cross?
What about here in Port Huron?
I would like to do something to help, but I don't have the means to go to Kalamazoo.
Ah man if only I had known yesterday, I live 45 minutes from Port Huron and could've stopped by before driving there if you had stuff to donate. I'm sure red cross would take donations, maybe call Portage PD or FD and see if there are any local charities to donate to. The damage I saw yesterday was insane, people's lives just gone. I wish I could've done more.
Consider dropping them off at a fire station.
