LPT: If you have a large or complex fast food order, park your car and place your order at the counter within the establishment. The drive-through is meant for expedience, and both the staff of the establishment and the customers behind you in line will appreciate the courtesy.
Removed: Not an LPTOP definitely rage typed this while sitting behind a minivan in the McD’s drive-thru
Lots of life pro tips on this sub are mostly rage based on a recent slight
My rule of thumb for LPTs is to read them as if OP is being passive aggressive. Always makes more sense that way.
Took me too long to realize this. Makes it much easier to pass over some of the ragey shit
"Listen up, assholes!" could begin just about every post.
Yeah the sub somehow changed from “this would benefit you” to “this is something I wish everyone did to benefit me”.

A lot of fast food restaurants still have their dining rooms closed around where I live in Florida. And when they open back up they're shut down a month later again. People be spreading them germs yo.
This was my first thought reading this post. I'm actually glad I clicked on it and found out other people feel this way. I'm old and sometimes I feel I'm getting really put of touch....
And almost all of them are nothing "pro". Most of them are so fucking stupid.
"After a hair cut ask for gel in your hair" what? No.
"If you're over 30 walk with a bounce in your step." What cartoon do you live in?
"If you have a complex food order..." Dumbass, it's the same kitchen and same people making your food.
"Spend 60sec a day looking yourself in the mirror and saying 'I'm amazing'" No you're not, you're a toddler and an idiot. An idiot who talks to the mirror.
"The older you get the more concerned you should be with keeping moisture in your body and out of everything you own"
Fucking... what? Did you just discover sweat? Who are you people? ... They didn't even expand on that one, what the fuck they mean!
"Use hand lotion on your cracked leather belt."
No don't do that. If it's cracked it's already too late. You should have invested in some mink oil (and not cheap leather) long ago. If you've got heavy leather boots consider some saddle soap too.
"If you're eating too much junk food ask elderly people to cook for you."
No, don't. Learn to cook. You know the proverb: give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Don’t teach a man to fish…and feed yourself. He’s a grown man. And fishing’s not that hard... go learn to cook your own food, you lazy piece of shit.
"If you're over 30 walk with a bounce in your step."
Wait, what? I haven't seen that one. What was the logic?
Developing a slipped disc I imagine.
My 42 year old body laughed too hard at this and now I’m sore.
Wait- oh fuck, I’m 43.

My favorite was the one that was like LPT: if someone tells you they have a surgery, NEVER ASK WHAT ITS ABOUT.
It’s just like….. this is obviously directed for your life and unwillingness to share. It’s an extremely obvious follow up question, if you want to avoid it, then don’t mention the surgery at all
Some of my favorites are when some were "LPT: if at a job interview and are offered coffee don't get it. Because now the interviewer will have to go on a journey to get it and you'll be left in silence the entire time" like that person was just upset that they had to go and get someone coffee (why even offer it then) and "LPT: if someone says maybe/they'll think about it to an invitation. Take it as a no and don't ask them again" because OP was socially inept and can't say no.
That’s honestly hilarious. If I had to make a job interview pro tip, it would be to always accept a drink if offered. My first interview I turned down water because I didn’t want to seem needy or something, and by the time I was halfway through my first answer my mouth was totally dry and I could barely speak properly.
Lpt when someone offers you a bottle of water always accept it. You never know when you'll be thirsty
Lol I remember that coffee one.. stupid af
Is op a little dog with attachment issues?
Silly. Studies have proven that people with drinks in their hands are easier to talk to for some reason. It is also culturally polite to accept whatever is offered. Like if someone thinks in their head that they could do something nice for someone then they offer it just to be turned down then offerer will feel like it was a bad idea. Always accept things that are given to you and always be willing to give more than you're given!
This is why I always bring a variety of beverages to job interviews and offer them to the interviewer.
I just imagine I now have to interview the new job candidate "eldritch jar man" and walk in to find my desk now covered in various jars of various sizes filled with various quantities of various liquids with various viscosity. Delightful.
LPT: if someone says maybe/they'll think about it to an invitation. Take it as a no and don't ask them again" because OP was socially inept and can't say no.
I honestly would appreciate the opposite, I often forget or get overwhelmed. This sub can be so fucking stupid.
One of my favorites was something like "If you and your spouse are cleaning the house or apartment and they're working on one room, start cleaning other rooms, don't just start cleaning in the same room they're already cleaning."
"I had surgery."
"For what? "
"I don't want to talk about it. "
...
"Then why did you tell me? "
It would be so amazingly rude if you didn't ask a follow-up question after someone had told you they had surgery.
"I had surgery yesterday"
"Good for you. Anyway, the weather is supposed to be nice this weekend."
Right? Amazing. And it was more like “HOW DARE YOU ASK ME SUCH A PERSONAL QUESTION?”
LPT: If I volunteer information, do not ask follow up questions. You shouldn't be actually interested in people.
Yeah if they tried to "not talk about it" after bringing it up in the first place, I'd have to say, "Well it looks like that surgery removing your head from your ass was only a partial success then." It's as bad as those vague social media posts begging for prayers and attention but refusing to disclose the reason.
Haha, nothing like someone saying “I have an unspoken prayer request.” Then why did you say anything? “GOD KNOWS WHAT IT IS!!” Ah, we’ll just let Him sort it out then. Doesn’t seem like I’m needed here.
“I’m having an absolutely horrible day. Life is meaningless.”
“What happened?”
“RESPECT MY PRIVACY!!!”
"If you're eating too much junk food ask elderly people to cook for you."
No, don't. Learn to cook.
also like.. where am I even supposed to find an elderly person to even cook for me? It's not like there's just one waiting in the cornor of mykitchen in case I'm hungry lol
Are these fuckin real? I love the thought of asking the elderly to spend their last days cooking my meals so I don't have to.
When your generation gets old, none of you will know how to cook and our society will crumble.
This one was insane. We should be taking a meal to an elderly neighbor, not the other way around.
Genuinely, if you don’t know how to cook but have an elderly loved one that does- learn to cook from them.
I feel like it should be obvious why, but I’ll say it anyway. You learn a life skill. Loved one passes knowledge down. You spend quality time with loved one. You help loved one make food that they may not be able to make on their own anymore. You both get delicious food.
But extra emphasis on spending quality time together. Life is short, and near the end, many people just want to enjoy the families they’ve built and the relationships they still have.
When I miss my grandma, I make her favourite comfort foods and it’s so cathartic. I still have all her recipes, even though I don’t need them, I still follow them because they’re written in her hand and I will cherish them forever.
Bonus: whenever my grandma was in the hospital, I was able to make her favourite foods (with some adjustments because hospital) and bring them in for her. It made both of us so happy.
Put your socks on one at a time. Much easier than putting them both on simultaneously.
Spend 60sec a day looking yourself in the mirror and saying 'I'm amazing'" No you're not, you're a toddler and an idiot. An idiot who talks to the mirror.
ehhhh this is the only one i could get behind. theres nothing dumb about positive affirmations.
“I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like me!”
Lmfaooo why is this so accurate
Yeah this is a rage post. Also I think people taking forever are people asking a bunch of questions and changing things and confusing themselves, not necessarily large orders
Speaking of which, why isn't the board with all menu items:
Static, so you can see what's available without a 30 seconds interval highlighting 2 breakfast sandwiches.
Placed BEFORE the order location so you can decide on your order in advance
I swear 2 used to be a thing. I remember menu boards placed about two car lengths back that you could read from and decide. Their disappearance is as frustrating as the weird "two order lanes, merge into one pickup lane" setup. But I always order via app now and mostly pickup through the drive thru depending on location. Ordering inside usually gives you much slower service times from what I've dealt with.
Someone figured out that it saved a few measely pennies somewhere.
Or the place is completely understaffed and something went wrong at the store which is causing every order to take a lot longer than usual.
Yeah or you get to the window and they're out of half their items.
And I can see the minivan using the drivethru to, as OP said, expedite their order. Who would want to unload and reload five kids? I, ordering inside when the line is too long, definitely don’t want those little snots running around me. Keep them buckled up!

I had two cars in front of me order well over 100 tacos at TB the other day. I was fucking pisssseeddd.
I swear every time I try to go through the drive through at taco hell some asshole is ordering for his entire construction crew with custom per-person orders. Y'all know you can fucking order ahead, right? So you're not taking up 20 minutes trying to convey a bunch of complicated orders? Some of us don't get hour lunches!
He even left out the part about "shoving that order up your fucking ass I have better shit to do than wait for your slow ass" and tried to church it up a bit.
Yeah guys, hurry up!! I'm trying to die here!
I worked in fast food and we were told to prioritize drive through for the metrics, even when we had customers at the counter. This is so ass backwards to me.
People from the street can see the drive through line. They can't see the counter line. Once you've parked you're less likely to be like "Fuck, that's a big line. Lets just go someplace else". In the drive through you're already in the car, so.... just don't park.
Yeah but once you’re in the middle of a drive thru line, you can’t really leave
Exactly. Hence why you don't get into the drive through line if you can see it isn't short. Hence why they focus on keeping that line moving fast.
Opposite for me, I'll wait forever in a drive through line listening to music in my car, AC on, just chillin, if I walk in and see a line of even like 3 people I'm leaving, waiting in a noisy place, smelling the unwashed masses for even a few minutes and I'm ready to commit a mass murder.
What convinces you to go inside instead of the drive thru?
I'm obviously not the person you asked, but for me, it's when I look through the window to the lobby and see either a really small or non-existent line.
Specifically in comparison to like a 10+ line of cars in the drive-through. An empty lobby and drive thru, I'm still taking the latter!
Oh man I definitely prefer the lobby! I just feel stuck in the drive thru and if there's like 10 cars it'll take longer to get my stuff.
Ya, I don't understand people who wait in the drive through when the lobby is empty. I park, get down, and get out before I see them make much progress. When I'm running late and I know I won't have time to make coffee, I order from the Starbucks down the street on the app while I'm getting ready. I was surprised to find out other people would do the same but then wait in the long (and I mean long) drive through line instead of just getting down, grabbing their coffee, and leaving.
You keep saying getting down... Do you drive a very tall vehicle?
No, he's just an impulsive dancer.
I say "get down" all of the time, and people also like to point it out haha. I am a native Spanish speaker and grew up with my family saying it, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it... like translating "bájate"
I hate ordering through a microphone. Also for complex orders it’s just easier to order at the counter with a big menu above the counter.
at McDonalds, the self service kiosk. I can stand there at a screen customising my order for as long as I want without holding anybody up
I don’t like my car idling for so long and usually it’s faster for me to get my food if I order inside

Then they are out of half the items you order.
I can’t stand that they all now wait until you get there to start on your order. Like, no, I’m ordering ahead so I can get it and go. Also, curbside pick up.
100%
And they get it in the POS system right. No more extra tomatoes when I said “no tomatoes”.
But some chains don't have the full range of customization options in the app. For instance, my girlfriend likes to get Quarter Pounders with Mac sauce, but the app doesn't have that option. They'll do it for you if you order at the drive thru or in the store, though (but it's like 45¢ extra).
For McD... I want a large ice water. I refill at work and munch on the ice all day. On the app I can only get a bottled Dasani.
So... Fuck that.
This is the real way to do it.
I've literally submitted orders while in the drive through
This is hit or miss as some chains or locations will only make the food when you show up to get it.
Yep previous manager at taco bell can confirm
Since the start of the pandemic, the one near me has been drive through only
My local Wendy's has been the absolute worst.
First it was drive thru only. Fine, whatever. I'll order through the app so I just have to pick it up through the drive thru. I sit in the line and then they tell me to pull ahead and they'll bring it out to me when it's ready. I watch three other cars behind me that ordered at the drive thru get their food before mine, which I ordered 20 minutes prior.
A few months later I try the app again and it has curbside pickup as an option. Fine I'll do that so I don't have to wait in the drive thru line. 20 minutes later I get to the restaurant and pull into one of the curbside pickup parking spaces I mark that I'm there on the app or whatever the option was (i forget) and 15 minutes go by. Nobody comes out. I then have to wait in the drive thru line on top of that to finally get my food.
A few months after that, in-store pickup is finally an option in the app. At least 3 or 4 times over a few weeks/months I tried using in-store pickup as an option and the door is locked and AGAIN I have to use the drive thru to pick up my food. Like fine I'll use the drive thru if that's what you want me to do but don't open curbside or in-store as options in the app if you're not going to fucking acknowledge it.
/rant
Jack in the box dining room almost always closed. Had group order of like 10 muchie meals and a few more sandwiches.
Drive through line was empty when we got there. The like had 10 people when we finally left. Totally woulda gone inside if it was an option to prevent that, but it wasn't.
As a person without a car, this stuff is annoying. I used to go to taco bell religiously, but now I go to moes
The exception can sometimes be In n Out. There will be a line that's 30 mins long, but I'll be out of there in like 10-15 if I order inside.
In n Out is excusable though because the pure volume of customers they get is insane. Their menu is optimized, they’re always fully staffed and they have workers standing outside taking to it order. There’s not much more you can do, it’s not unusual for them to have 20-30 cars in the drive thru while a busy McDonalds may have 5-7.
The In N Out in El Segundo actually has two car lanes that merge into one. They will have 2 order takers outside during peak surges.
Goes fairly quick considering the number of cars.
Meanwhile the Carl’s Jr. is a ghost town across the street. Lol.
Man, they just re-did the one in Torrance, but it's still only a single really long line.
They had two lanes at the ones in Claremont/Upland, and I don't think it ever took as long as it did here.
Although I guess there's probably a cap at how many lines is good lmao. Don't want to end up like the 405.
+! to Drive-thru being prioritized. Its common as most/all FF chains time their service. Going inside only give the the proper chance to check your food, or with smaller orders, get in and out quicker.
The BK i worked at from 2002-2008 literally gave awards out to stores for drive-thru time. Ever get pulled ahead to wait on food at a drive-thru? This isn't for serving food that is ready behind you, its for reducing the drive-thru time metrics.
Long ass line, so I parked and order my burger and coke. As I fill it I’m expecting it to be coming out soon and listen for my number. Car after car was getting their food. When I had left I think I beat about two cars?? They def didn’t care about my order up there on the lobby side of things.
I remember when I worked at this fast food place back in 08 some Karen hits up the drive thru trying to order like 45 burgers for some students. Nah you get your ass inside because we’re not having you give us 45 unique fucking orders over the comm.
Was it McDonald's because they ignore the f*** out of their customers
If the order is that large, won't the drive thru have you pull into a parking space to keep the line moving anyways?

This is a huge problem across the entire economy. Senior management wants to pay as little as possible for middle management, so they get shitty managers who can't be trusted to actually manage and use judgement. So senior management makes up metrics that can be kept in a spreadsheet to see whether they go up and down. Then middle managers figure out how to game the system that has been created. It's all too easy to do so because senior management is wildly detached from reality and has no idea what actually happens in their own businesses.
I experienced it first hand by working in a company on the ground floor and moving up the ranks into Middle Management then into Analytics. I often had to explain to executive staff what these numbers were measuring, what they explicitly were not measuring, and what their purpose was since they were created by previous senior executives who no longer worked there. I caught lots of fraud and internal theft that way and got a couple of fat bonuses. The director of the warehouse was falsifying his metrics by printing out FedEx labels days or weeks in advance so everything looked like it had shipped in our system but in reality they were backed up horrendously. Another employee was issuing refunds directly to her personal credit card across lots of different customer accounts.
"Nobody wants to work anymore!" LMAO. Senior management hasn't wanted to work this entire goddamn time.

not everywhere does this... I spent around 20 minutes at taco bell once, have no idea what the fuck happened but sunk cost fallacy got me good that day.
Or sometimes the person feels entitled for some reason and refuses to pull to a spot and wait.
Once at taco bell the people in front of me gave a long ass order at the speaker. As they were being handed their food, they ORDERED MORE! WTF? Is their menu so complicated you can't figure it out 5 minutes ago.
I have a 2 year old and two 1 year olds. Most of the time the drive thru is my only option because I can’t bring all three kids and carry the food. I always offer to pull into a spot and wait if I’m ordering a lot.
I've definitely waited like 15 minutes behind a single car in a drive through before. This was probably years ago though so it's not like its often
It’s not always because of huge orders or long lines of cars. I’ve had to wait 5-10 minutes at the window for like 2 small items with no changes. Whether it’s low staff or the workers just don’t care idk.
I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
Fun fan theory, he was just doing that giant order to kill time until the Ballas arrived. Big Smoke already intended to betray CJ from the get go, and this was his first attempt to get rid of him before he got established and became a threat.
Big smoke and Ryder are the only "smart" ones in the bunch. CJ is clueless, Sweet is kinda stupid, OG Loc is a poser. GSF is a joke and only gets big via CJ being an absolute lunatic.
Pretty telling that CJ's sister got with a guy from another gang. Probably for proper protection.
I recently played through the game again, and when I got to that mission again, that changed everything, especially when he doesn't fire a shot.
And then the customization begins. And of course the 300 questions. Let’s not forget the 12 minutes to check everything in each bag after receiving the food.
I just feel for the right number of things and assume Taco Bell "forgot" my nachos.
Ahh…. You have not mastered the “bag weight check” technique just yet, which requires no bag incursion. You’ll get there!
With Taco Bell in particular you need the bag volume check, as they will happily throw in 2lbs of hot sauce packets. The volume check can also be fooled tho, with wads of napkins. There is the destructive "crunch test" but as far as a non-destructive, non-incursion I am afraid no truly foolproof method exists.
Weight check?! Teach me? Edited spelling
I wish it could be taught. I’d be a millionaire many times over. It only comes from experience, grasshopper.
I'll try my best, sensei.
The bag weight check doesnt work at taco bell. My standard is two quesoritos. No consistency in size. The largest was easily twice the size of my smallest, probably a bigger difference than that.
Don't forget the 2 people who have no idea what they want or the menu options.
At this point, use the app. Most places have one, and it allows all sorts of customization options that get delivered to the staff making your food.
This 100%. The staff gets your order in writing without some harried worker having to take the order through a speaker at a drive-thru. In my experience you're much more likely to have your order completed accurately and it makes things easier for the workers at the restaurant.
Come on those speakers are always great and work exceptionally well
Damn, now what am I going to do with my 80s stand up routine!?
Even worse is the places that have started using AI to take orders. The Checkers near me switched, and:
- It takes at least twice as long to order.
- It's almost impossible to correct a mistake in the order.
- Roughly half the times I've been there, the robot got stuck in a "please wait while we update your order" loop for at least several minutes, usually until I pull forward to talk to a human.
- If I ask it to read my order back to me, it typically takes almost a minute before it acknowledges and reads it back.
Just have a human do it.
Yeah, but the humans are getting uppity and want things like a “living wage”.
I've had the complete opposite experience. Every single time I have ordered via app I've had some sort of mistake on the order.
you're much more likely to have your order for filled accurately
Just FYI, the word you want is "fulfilled", not "for filled".
It's true. I get extra lettuce for free on most of my burgers this way.
You are the first person I’ve ever heard of that WANTS more lettuce on their burgers haha
For real? Lol every time I want more mayo and more lettuce, and depending on the day, more tomatoes
I’m not sure why I never thought to ask for more. Maybe I didn’t want to be a hassle. But will probably going forward. The crunch of fresh lettuce on a burger adds so much to it.
Yes! It's great. And a hassle? You think it's a hassle? They're probably already putting some lettuce on it, it can't be much harder to put a little more on
Worked at McDonald’s, can confirm this stuff is nbd. Takes no extra time to grab a bigger pinch of lettuce
It's fast food, just by coming in you've already inconvenienced the staff more than any substitution or adjustment ever could.
(Source: Lived it)
Order your extra lettuce, get that crunch, and enjoy life. It’s too short to worry about that. I’ve learned a long time ago it’s never an issue to ask. If they can’t or won’t do it, that’s fine, but always just ask!
Or go inside and use the kiosk, it's like cheating. If there are people in line waiting to order you just got your order in before them.
I absolutely love mcds kiosks. Wish all other places start them too.
Or just go behind the counter, into the kitchen and take what you need.
I feel like McDonald’s puts app orders at the lowest priority.
Right. I've tried this, It takes twice as long and I get the wrong food anyway
It depends on the pickup option. Curbside is lower priority than drive-thru. If the line is 1-2 cars then I use the drive-thru. Otherwise, I park and chill with music until my food arrives.
The Wendy's next to my job is drive thru only, if you order thru the app you still have to wait for the drive thru line, and by the time you get to the window your food has been in the bag for close to 30 minutes.
Hot and crispy fry guarantee my ass!

Using apps sounds pretty convenient, but I really don't wanna have an app for every place I think I might eat from. I've had coworkers who had a dozen different apps for restaurants & fast food places, but like... damn, I'll just spend a few minutes in line. I'm tired of giving out my email, number, & space on my phone (& usually other things like location?) like it's candy
THANK YOU. I don’t to want to have app for everything. Planet fitness tried to make me download an app to check in at the gym. I looked at the permissions and was like “absolutely not. Give me a key fob”. They looked at me like I was insane because i didn’t want the app making phone calls, accessing my photos and GPS.
It's like every store you go to these days too. Apps and memberships are being pushed for every single transaction I make, no matter how minor or insignificant the product.
Honestly this is probably the best the only issue is sometimes the orders can be buggy.. or some customizations they don't have on there..
As a previous fast food manager i can tell you the time for in dining is not the priority. They always used to stress the fast food time and the fast food time to give out an order was less due to the way the system was set up. The taking the order is tracked, so they gotta go fast.
That's a good tip, too.
Former fast food worker here.
At the KFC and McDonalds I worked at, No one cares where you order from. I would even argue it's worse taking orders when you come inside because you have to get a worker to stop what they are doing to take your order. (NO ONE likes front counter.)
The system in place to take and serve orders means it makes no difference to the kitchen staff that has to make your food, if anything you are gonna get your food slower inside because your order shows up after the six cars that ordered before you. Even if you are the only person inside, you are going to wait if there is a lot of cars. Best thing you can do is order clearly and ask for sauces and cup holders as you pay.
Yeah I feel like op was just a person stuck behind someone with a large order and made this post as a pro tip out of frustration.
definitely
This is how most lpt posts are born.
OP is giving me these vibes:
when i worked fast food in high schoool, id wear a headset for the drive thru in the grill. it was actually easier to do complex order from the drive-thru because i could hear exactly what the person was ordering. often complex things would just get rung up as "ask me" because the system couldnt display it properly.
Agreed. Friends and I hated front counter. You are met with the worst there. I wonder if op even works/ed fast food.
This belongs in SLPT. Might as well demolish drive thru.
I have a family. I am not emptying my vehicle of hellions to unleash on the staff. I just make the order concise and be nice.
Reason I don't agree with this is because drive-thru customers are always prioritised. I see massive queues inside but a car only takes a minute to go thru.
When I worked at a drive through for Macca's, it was never an issue if the order was large, or picky. Just know what you're getting before you pull up to the speaker box. The more umm.. and ahhing the customer does the worse it is for everyone.
If you go inside, establishments try to save money on Labour by not assigning anyone to the front counter order taking, just use the app or kiosk because those sales are more beneficial to the company and save time for the crew working
It’s funny you think people that take forever in the drive through line are concerned about courtesy. Plus it’s not complex orders that hold up the line it’s the people who are confused why there’s no pizza on the menu and have to scour the menu to decide what to buy because they’re really not in the mood for a burger or dried chicken chunks so they’re expecting to find some miraculous new culinary treat hiding somewhere on the overly complex menu in front of them.
Well they put the menu next to the speaker instead of a few cars back so if you don’t go to the place often, you have no idea what they have until you get the window, and then pressure’s on you have 10 seconds max to read 28 menu items and do math to decide what you have money for vs what you want...
Like seriously just move the menu back like 10 feet... even worse if you have to “build your bowl” or something dumb...
This has been, "Life Pro Tips from a guy that just waited a long time for his drive-thru order, but doesn't really know much about how fast food works."
Nope. This is a crap tip.
Yeah. The real answer is that if you place a large order in the drive thru, they should tell you to pull aside and then bring your order out to you.
That way, everyone wins. The line moves fast, and you never have to get out of your car.
Worked in fast food for years. We don’t care. DT makes it less overwhelming inside and it’s being made in the kitchen whether you come in or not and if it’s too large we’ll have you wait in the parking lot and we bring it out. Not everyone is fast but most people take no more than a couple mins for a bigger order because most know what they’re wanting.
Also I’ve been a customer behind bigger families or orders, it’s never been an issue. Sometimes I don’t even notice all the food they get until it’s coming out I never thought of it as being rude or anything we all just trying to get our food and get out.
Yep used to work McDonald’s as a teen for my first job and never even noticed. It’s just normal and expected to me. It made all of us more stressed when there was a huge crowd inside. You’d have to deal with assholes and impatient people on top of that. Drive thru is the way. That’s what it was made for.
Edit: I wonder if OP has ever even worked fast food before. Drive thru Karen. This belongs in SLPT.
This isn’t an LPT or correct.
LPT: Don’t post your petty rant as a LPT then argue with everyone who disagrees with your entitled attitude. This sub will appreciate the courtesy.
THIS IS NOT A TIP. IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM DOES IT MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER.
WHY ARE PEOPLE UPVOTING THIS? WHY HAS THIS SUB GONE TO SHIT?
I’m a mom of 5 boys and when they were younger there wasn’t a chance in hell I was dragging 3 toddlers and 2 babies inside to order.
Lol I read this and literally thought “what about a mom with a big ass family??” I have one boy and I would rather use the drive through because of it sometimes lol. It’s drive through for the convenience of everyone. I won’t lie I will be annoyed when I see it’s a family of six ordering ahead of me in a drive thru lane buuuut it’s not like I deserve to be served quicker than then or anything.
This LPT is the equivalent of, : “ if you’re picky, don’t customize your order. The people being paid to make it will love you for making their job easier.” Or “don’t have kids if it’s going to lead to an extra 10 mins of me waiting for my food.” Lol
How is this a life tip doesn’t this technically inconvenience u
It's all about speed, and generally the worker on driver through is just as fast or faster than the counter worker
It's about drive, it's about power
We stay hungry, we devour.
Taco Bell manager here. I work the drive thru prep line with a top tier employee. Trainees go on the lobby line.
We only track speed for the drive thru, so that's what I'm pushing.
OP has literally never worked fast food, because honestly they’re just wrong.
People with larger orders buying fast food likely have a car full of screaming kids. Do you really want that all inside the store?
I’m sure there are more than one reason people can’t go inside. Just be patient, or make your own fries.
And wait 10 times longer? Restaurants give hardly any priority to indoor customers, all of their effort goes into the drive thru. In fact going inside for an order often takes staff away from helping the drive thru, since counters are not manned 100% of the time.
I used to do this, go inside for my order if it was complicated, but noticed I was waiting 10-15 minutes for my food. Going through the drive-thru, my order adds no noticeable time, and I get served way faster. Most food isn't assembled yet, and it's during assembly that customization is done, so special orders usually don't add any significant amount of time.
This is just bad advice.
When’s the last time you had three kids in the car and a spouse and older kid at home that you were going through the drive through to get dinner? You’re not going to unpack those kids, take them in the store, place an order, and carry all that back out to the car and pack the kids up again.
You’re going through the drive through and if those behind you can’t deal with it, tough.
how is this a tip? This is more like a charitable action lol
Relax nerd, it's a drive thru.
As a former fast food employee I would say DON’T do this. Drivethrus are accustomed to high volume and a vast majority of orders are in drivethru, so complex orders come through all the time. Most fast food places prioritize drive-thru to the point that front counter often won’t have a dedicated cashier and order taker; at these establishments an employee has to take time out of their station to then cover the front, potentially slowing the whole kitchen down. Big orders can just be directed by employees to pull through and wait in the parking lot. Dine-in customers can absolutely crush the time efficiency of a fastfood restaurants during rush times. Dine-in orders also often get mixed up with drive thru (especially by new employees), and overall reduce the accuracy of orders. Also, I do not believe the drive-thrus are for “expedience” for most people anymore. By my observation most people are happy to wait in long drive-thru lines rather than go inside and order in a short line; they seem to like the comfort of their vehicles more and generally accept long wait-times during visible rushes. All fastfood establishments are different, not all are understaffed, but I would ask on a location by location basis what they prefer before judging what the right way to order would be.
I remember when life pro tips used te be little things you can do to make YOUR life easier. Most life pro tips thess days seem to be about common courtesy.
LPT that’s served me well: If there’s a white SUV or minivan at the drive thru: go somewhere else
I disagree with the basis of your premise. It's meant to be convenient for customers. Think of the mom who has her two or three kids and then others from the soccer team in her car. Rather than spending 10 minutes getting all the kids out of the car, into the fast food restaurant and wrestling them into submission while standing in a lobby, she can simply go through the drive-thru.
Stop being so damned impatient. Stay home and cook if you can't be patient and join society.
Worst LPT I've seen to date
this guy just wants everyone to get out of the way so he can hit the drive thru faster lmao.
These LPTs are just getting worse and worse
LPT: Don't eat fast food
Worst lifeprotip ever
The real pro tip is that if you're ordering like 4 different combos or doing multiple separate orders, come inside.
As both a customer and a former fast food employee, the drive through is meant for people on a meal break to grab something quick and get back to work.
I fucking hate when some fucking Suburban or whatever with 8 fat fucks packed inside want to place Big Smoke's order from GTA.
Here's another novel idea. If you're trying to cater a fucking party, order ahead and come inside.
I worked at Zaxby's many years ago and we'd have mfs pull up to the drive thru 5 minutes before closing and try to order 3 different 20 piece wings and, 2 different 20 piece tenders, a nibbler platter, like 12 salads, etc.
They'd get livid when we turned them away because that was considered a catering order and required 24 hours notice, and could only be picked up inside.
Ha yeah right, like people would actually do this
