My wife and I just purchased our first kayaks (10’ sit-in) and are looking forward to getting out on the lakes around our home in Dallas, TX. What are some things you wish you knew your first time on the water that will help us be prepared? Thank you all!

Here is what I have so far. Thanks! - always wear life jacket - Dress for the weather and plan for falling in the water - avoid windy days - bring a whistle - stay close to shore - learn how to get in and out (I know I am going to fall in way too many times figuring this out) - don’t fight the water, but ride with it - make sure your seat is comfy
