Like, he literally just passed you. How could he miss you? People have no situational awareness on the road.
They don't miss you, they just assume you'll brake.
I think this is it. It's main character syndrome. They think the other driver can read their mind and act accordingly.
He was "willing" you to brake so he could get in your lane.
This is why I never drive next to someone unless I absolutely have to and even then I'll slow up a bit so they're in front of me before I speed back up.
He wasn't "willing" shit he's a bully with a "I'm bigger than you" playground mentality and I hope that giant piece of shit explodes and the truck falls apart too.
I can't tell you how many boyfriends, current included, that I want to throttle so badly because "They're not letting me into the lane, wtf! They're such assholes, omg!" Meanwhile, they never even turned on their fucking blinker. Drives me up the friggin' wall!!
How many boyfriends do you have lol?
If a blinker drives her up a wall it is going to be a while
I still drive a beater that's worth more to me totaled than anything else. I can't wait for my run in with one of these guys.
the problem is that their car is so much more massive and will crush you & your car without leaving a scratch on them & their car. they’re excited to run in to you because they know it would kill you
Beater pickup trucks with snowplows on the front will hurt them.
heh i've read a story on reddit of someone who had their mailbox knocked down by street plows every year, complained to the city every year and they said there's nothing they can do (probably some law removing their culpability for randomly taking out mailboxes "on accident"). So anyways the guy applies for and is awarded permits to create a cemented in mailbox, he apparently used some massive steel pipe like 3-4 inches in diameter and stuck it 6 feet into the ground and filled the entire thing with cement and cemented it into the ground. completely destroyed the next street plow, they tried suing him but since he had all the proper permits and followed them and placed it where it could be placed they had no standing
Never discount physics, remember the videos of cars getting launched by loose tires? Similar principle here, just more damage all around.
Had this happen to me after getting my transmission flushed recently, a guy in a truck almost ran me off the road and into a river even though I was blaring my horn. He drove on like nothing happened. Had to break to avoid getting pushed off.
I've had that happen a lot but I'm in my beat up work truck. Go ahead, I got all day, hope you have insurance and don't PIT yourself.
Same exact thing happened to me. Thankfully I was in a rental but this guy was mad I passed him and legit slammed into the side of my rental. I have no idea how it wasn’t considered assault and the cops let him go with just a ticket.
OP should brake, immediately after returning to the lane OP had been forced out of.
It’s hard to have situational awareness when you can fit 4 elephants in your blind spot. Especially when these nut jobs flip their mirror up to towing mode without towing because it “looks manly”.
Am I paranoid or do I see some trucks with their side mirrors pointed back at the driver seat behind them so they can see whos driving? is that towing mode? cuz sometimes i wonder if they are trying to see who is behind them with side mirrors only? note: they arent towing anything
The truck in the video is a Dodge Ram so it has mirrors that flip from horizontal to vertical. Imagine a rectangle long side horizontal then flipping to long side vertical. It sorta pushes the viewing area of the mirror farther out by rotating it 90 degrees. Tbh the mirrors don't really look like they're flipped up in the video.
Without a trailer it probably does seem like the mirror is pointed at the person behind them a little bit, probably not intentional and they're just used to driving with the mirror flipped out and don't want to change it.
I had this exact same scenario two months ago with a big Dodge ram. We had been basically side by side for five miles and when the road merged to one lane. he ran me into a curb and fled. Destroyed both wheels and blew a hole in my targs top.
He was probably drunk.
Barely passed*
Brand new truck maybe? Doesn't realize how big it is? Still an idiot but it would explain it.
glad you have a cam and no one got hurt! one can only hope it was plain ignorance and not a one sided personal problem
Yes, when I merged back in it was mad close but good thing they didn’t hit me, and no damage to my car other than a little bit of grass 💀. Plus no time wasted (after 12 hr shift)
*other car uploads footage*

Has this happened up here?
Undoubtedly
Drove back from New Orleans to Houston yesterday. Three vehicles did this to me during that drive. Every one was a truck. Not one of them used a blinker or even looked.
Makes me want to drive the truck from Jeepers Creepers
BEATNGU
Always wondered if it was “Beating you” or “Be eating you”. Considering he eats people, it’s probably the latter, but both are funny.
Every time this happens to me it's a truck as well. I don't drive a particularly small vehicle, but with the beltline and ride height of the average truck getting taller and taller, I think it's an issue of literally not seeing smaller cars. Combine that with the feeling of invincibility a large truck gives its drivers and you get the shitty driving you see all across the country.
Isn't that mirror light in the truck a blind spot sensor??
That looks like a side marker light
It would also be the blinker, if he'd used it...
I reckon he'd never used it.
Looks like the mirror turn signal marker light, looks too big to be a blind spot monitor indicator.
They make them extra big on trucks to idiot-proof them.
Well that didn't work
People in pick ups expect special treatment because their mommies lied and told them they’re special all throughout their childhood.
I dunno but they have to actually use their turn signal for it to start beeping
You have to use turn signal for it to beep, but it lights up whenever it detects a car. (from experience with my cars that have the blind spot warnings)
Bet they have a beard and think they're a viking or strongman or some shit.
C'mon man. He's got a goatee if anything
I got a full beard and like vikings, but I drive a Nissan Versa
Because that light appears to be on the outside of the mirror cover, that appears to be the turn signal indicator that some vehicles have on their mirrors. It's in a place that won't be in the driver's sight to be an indicator for them.
They’re an excuse to not pay attention! I’ve had it happen more than once - a car cutting across multiple lanes, drivers eyes are forward, blind spot light is visible from across multiple lanes. The first time I thought “wtf, is this really happening?!?”
I was thinking the same, but after rewatching, that is too large to be a blind spot light.
OP, this situation was not caused by you but I honestly am curious as to why you sped up in this situation? You would have been out of harms way much more quickly if you braked, had he knocked your passenger side off the pavement as you were speeding up it could have been a disaster.
Edit: added “if you braked” which I guess I deleted somehow before
Maybe so, but I paid more attention to the white car that had a bigger chance of merging in than the truck. I didn’t think they would do that 💀 once the white car didn’t merge and saw my lane clear up I sped up a little and then this guy decided to come into my lane. But there are always what ifs and better outcomes.
The white car used their brakes and was gaining distance until you sped up when the truck started coming into your lane. Not sure I understand this comment.
Earlier before the truck came up next to me. That white car had enough space to move over into the right lane and I was thinking it would’ve. Waited a little while. Never did, that’s when I sped up after seeing the car in my lane move to the left. Cus no one was merging over.
Looks like a standard issue brodozer with a typical knuckle dragging idiot behind the wheel.
Could have slowed down a lot faster than you can speed up.
nah. then the truck would’ve won
/s
Yeah, I suspect some road rage on OP's part here. The driver of the truck was an asshat, but there is absolutely no reason to accelerate in this situation, other than not wanting to let the asshat "win". OP talks about how it was a close call merging back in front of the truck. Would not have been nearly as close if OP had just braked instead.
That's what I feel too . Why speedup when slowing down would avoid accidents even if the other driver is at fault.
The human ego is a fragile thing.
I agree. While the truck is a huge idiot, the OP is right up there with him. A small press of the brake would’ve been far safer and more controlled then gunning it into the grass. This could’ve ended really badly and if there had been any vehicle to vehicle contact with insurance getting involved, OP absolutely would be held partly responsible.
For more context, was driving normal and this truck was tailgating the white car for a minute, I saw the road clear up ahead and decided to go a bit faster and the lifted truck decided it was time to merge lmao , I beeped throughout the whole thing (Sorry for no audio) and they had ZERO reaction, just kept merging. Made me get onto the grass, only reason I can think why they did was was because my car is a lowered a little bit, and they have a lifted truck *Maybe* they didn't see me but why would they slow merge after being so impatient? What do you guys think? First time posting btw never thought I would have to lol.
I'll be honest, I doubt direct sight of you is relevant to the situation. I ride a motorcycle. I've rode as much as I could all summer long, and I've noticed this behavior out of every single vehicle not just the ones where I would be even less visible than the normal invisibility that a motorcycle provides.
What I see in this shot is slower moving traffic to your left, and a big open gap between you and the car in front of you. I have started to find myself actively avoiding that exact circumstance as much as I can. They will always merge, especially if you notice a person just getting up to the slower moving traffic (like this truck did), they always seem to want open air in front of them. They do it every time, and quite a few without looking, its scary how predictable it is. If you were in a bigger, taller vehicle, directly in line of sight, maybe might have made a difference, but I have a feeling there wasn't even a glance in your direction.
Your car has good acceleration. What is it?
I have a BMW 2007 335i. I tried not to step on it too hard cus of the grass afraid i would’ve slipped a bit.
Twin turbo n54, that'll do it. How's maintenance been on it?
Like they say lmaoo. Got the car for $500 originally for parts motor ran but had bad ticking. Swapped from a donor car I bought (so lucky it was a well taken care of , the motor). So far I’ve changed water pump and ac compressor. It’s just FBO that’s all nothing crazy. Lotta work but I’ve learned a lot. So tldr; avoid 🤣
I know you are in the right.
But I would have slowed down and let him pass than try to fight him for the lane and out accelerate him.
You can still get hurt or worse, even though you are in the right. I have friends who got hurt from similar situations. Won't wish that on anybody.
I think you could have easily let off the throttle or tapped your brakes to not continue being involved in the dangerous situation that Bro-Dozer created.
I think the truck could have responded to OP's horn at any time to not continue creating the dangerous situation.
Agreed, but OP could have also taken very minor actions to mitigate the dangerous situation that they were unwillingly placed in.
There’s no reason besides ego and stupidity that OP MUST end up in front of brodozer.
1TS 0WE pEEZ fAULT!
Just because people point out there's a better course of action doesn't mean it's OP's fault, grow up.
The other reason is to discourage this type of behavior by not rewarding it.
People do this because more often than not, it gets them what they want. If the majority of people denied them the reward to their actions, they wouldn’t do it. If we all work together, we can create safer roads.
It's better to be alive, than be right.
And it’s even better still to be alive and discourage this kind of behavior. You know it isn’t an ‘either or’ situation, right?
Absolutely. If you can discourage it safely, by all means.
Going faster because of a petty disagreement on the shoulder of a road is just asking to have an accident though, even if you are 100% in the right. I don't find that safe enough to risk. I'm glad OP turned out OK, and I put all blame on the truck, but the safer option here would have been slow down.
One has an inherently higher risk than the other.
You are clearly not a very smart person.
it's almost like OP has no control over what the truck does.
The commenters don’t have control over what either vehicle does, but some of them still seem hell-bent on criticizing the victim 🤷♂️
both can be wrong, literally no one is saying the truck isn't the idiot, but we can also acknowledge that there was a possibly better way of handling this.
I've had it happen to me in a low-ish car. Blew the horn and watched the driver of the truck look around confused for about 15 seconds before they finally looked over AND down.
If the mirrors/chair are adjusted right this isn't a problem, but if you adjust your mirrors to see people on your level you miss a lot.
I'm in FL, and people try to drive their lifted (and nonlifted) trucks like sports cars here. Most obnoxious drivers on the road by far.
On a side note, I saw you drive a BMW. I honestly do not see where all of the hate towards BMW drivers comes from. I haven't experienced a disproportionate amount of aggressive driving from them.
I think you're a jackass for passing the truck after being forced off of the road. You put them, yourself and several other people in danger when you left the pavement and chose to hit the gas instead of being smart and letting the truck go ahead. Don't sit in people's blind spots, get in their way and make sure they know where you are.
The truck came up from behind, OP was not in the blind spot originally AND is in the correct lane AND going with the flow of traffic.
You have time to delete this.
Thank you 🤣 he definitely should’ve at least seen me when he came up. But I guess he forgot I was there or something

The truck is a jackass for changing lanes into an occupied lane... OP was run into the grass and chose to accelerate instead of braking, I can't say I blame them.
He was not run into the grass. Hit the brakes, honk your horn, move on with your life. OP made the situation more dangerous by passing in the grass.
Just tap the brakes instead of doubling down on a dangerous situation, Jesus. He’s being an idiot asshole, and you said “count me in!”
What, and let someone cut in front of me?!
I don’t know about you, but grabbing some gravel and grass where I am means loss of traction. My mind, and it’s prolly downvote city for me, is to keep with my momentum instead of risking the loss of rear. I don’t know as much about the driving dynamics as I liked to think I do.
I think the difference here is that if they commit and you accelerate you have to grab grass and gravel. You have no choice but to take the shoulder.
But if they commit and you tap the brakes you don't have to move nearly as far right to avoid them. You can almost always stay on tarmac not risk the grass and gravel.
You’re prolly right.
Where was the lifted truck?
Yeah, not lifted at all.
That truck is not lifted
OP obviously owns the right lane, look at that show of dominance.
Glad everything turned out well. Only thing is that is not a lifted truck. The a normal base truck. Driver was still an ass.
Yup, it's a stock-height 5th gen Heavy Duty Ram. A.K.A., the DUI-mobile.
Why did OP not just slow down? It does nothing to let them in, why risk a dangerous situation by speeding up?
OP drives a BMW.
I guess I came to read the comments about why people speed up when they are about to be passed lol?
He didnt sped up when he was about to be passed, he sped up when he was about to be ran off the road
In their comment they say op sped up after the truck had been tailgating op & moved to the left lane. Obviously the truck is at fault but seems a bit like op was taunting the other driver & the road isn’t the place for that shat.
That’s a stock ram 2500, not lifted. Definitely has blind spot sensors driver was just a dumbass. Seeing it’s night he may honestly have had some drinks or is exhausted
yeah i get told i have a lifted truck all the time.. its just a leveling kit and 37s.. but tbf these new f250s sit at the same height as my 03 dodge with a 5” lift and 35s
You’re assuming he knows how to recognize what the blind spot sensors are telling him. First question my sis asked after driving my car was why did I have yellow lights that lit up occasionally on my side view mirrors? She complained it was totally distracting and scared her the first few times they lit up. Not once did she recognize what the lights were telling her!
Truck is an asshole; OP is an idiot for turning a potential accident between himself and the truck into a potential dangerous situation for everyone on the road.
I'm a little confused about your reaction. Wouldn't braking have gotten you out of the situation faster?
So is nobody gonna talk about how OP would rather floor it onto the shoulder than hit the brakes? There are definitely two idiots in this video.
Bold strategy Cotton
Why would you speed up
Why would the other guy merge on top of him?
The question is valid: Most unmodified cars can slow faster than they can accelerate. Braking can get you out of danger faster.
We do not know what was behind OP, but the question itself is important for others to learn from.
Regardless of what was behind, OP could have pulled off to the shoulder and stopped completely. The truck driver is still an asshole, but I’d rather pull over and stop than wreck my car.
Not always, and that is why I ask. I have been in situations where stopping or even slowing would also create danger. Atlanta interstates for one are notorious for that where inches replace car lengths when it comes to follow distances.
Edit: OP replied, there was indeed another truck behind them. That does limit your emergency braking speed a bit.
A Toyota Tacoma on my rear. So I guess double trucks 💀 the ram was the rude one tho.
Kind of irrelevant when you end up flipping your car in a ditch.
Found the truck driver everyone
Truck driver was a doucbebag, and you decided to be one too by stepping on the gas to block him and escalating an already dangerous situation.
My thoughts exactly.
you're also an asshole lol
Thats not lifted
This sub has such a hate boner for pickups
Driving 101
Anticipate what the vehicles around you are going to do.
You had the left lane slowing down, an open right lane, and a tailgater that's not paying attention very well. Good thing you don't ride a bike.
that would've made an awesome pit maneuver
Not that it’s overly relevant, but I don’t think it was lifted. Regardless, they’re an ass with no situational awareness.
I’m sorry but if it were me he would be needing 2 new doors.
And I have the dash cam footage for the claim?? I would’ve totaled both them shits 🤣
Dude was like 3 inches from being in front of you, then brakes before changing lanes. Like no shit the guy you barely passed is going to be right next to you if you hit the brakes before changing lanes.
I believe that rather than, “Good luck,” he was actually saying, “Get fucked.”
Every inch your truck is lifted equates to 5 points deducted from the average IQ seems to be the rule
Oh look, assholes on both sides of the equation.
Speeding up to pass using shoulder even on grass? Seriously? Do you drive an Audi or a BMW to justify that kind of insane decision matrix? Lol.
Truck does not appear to be 'lifted', likely just a 4x4 suspension that rides higher than 4x2.
🤣🤣 I do but I was already speeding up a bit because of the car in front leaving the lane empty. Almost like he thought that it was a good time to merge in, I did beep tho and saw he had no reaction and I was like door to door with him. If I braked I would’ve hit him on the rear. I just didn’t want no accident. Guess he was on the bud light or something.
If you braked you would've missed him completely.
He actually was driving a BMW. I guess OP had to make sure his driving matched the badge on the hood.
This is a genuine question. I'm not from the US and don't know your driving laws.
Why is there 2 cars just sitting in the passing lane while there isn't anything to the right of them ?
Because nobody knows how to fucking drive here. They sit in the left lane doing the speed limit or less because they're too scared or too lazy to be attentive to the other idiots that try to merge into the road at half the speed of traffic.
Then they get pissy when you pass on the right and play a game of "no I wanna be in front!"
Because they're also idiots. There are signs all over the 2 lane highways all across the US that say "Left lane for passing only," which means pass a slower car in the left lane then get back over in the right lane. But everywhere you go, you get these guys camping in the fast lane.
Egocentric driving.
That is actually a stock height truck, probably a 2500 or 3500.
You almost pitted yourself just brake and let him win.
Lifted truck = automatic idiot
tbf this one isn’t lifted just a shittt driver
So many critics in the comments. It happen a bit quickly you did what you had to to not get hit. You were doing nothing wrong and dude didn’t look plain and simple.
Easier, faster, and (usually) less dangerous to brake and let stupid people be stupid further ahead of you.
Big truck is an idiot, but OP is also a fucking moron for not hitting the brakes. What are you trying to prove by passing him on a grassy shoulder? Good way to get in a wreck and you weren't driving defensively. Insurance ain't gonna give you much help on that one.
That truck is not “lifted”
1st, screw everyone that drives lifted vehicles like this. They are a deadly danger to everyone on the road.
2nd, why did you accelerate, OP?
That's a bone stock truck. Not lifted or modded. Trucks and SUVs are just that big now.
Everyone telling OP to slow down forgot that there’s a car behind them. We don’t know the distance maybe that was more safe? Personally I would’ve let them hit me. Seeing that they have a base model Ram in a free color, those payments are hitting and I know they can’t afford to fix my RT, hellcat or my Tesla. You missed an easy pay day OP
What an absolute shock…a driver of a lifted truck was an complete twat. Who could have predicted this!?
Lifted trucks are so fucking dumb. Almost as dumb as their drivers.
Yet another comment section full of morons assigning equal blame to a bully and someone who didn't accommodate their entitlement.
When are we going to realize that the only way to eliminate this type of behavior is to prevent it from getting the desired result?
Lol we’ll let you wreck your car to teach the bullies a lesson. Most people are just trying to get to their destination.
Did you miss the part where OP didn’t wreck?
I didn’t realize you had a solution to stupidity, my apologies good sir.
Someone get this man a soap box!
It’s just basic psychology. Unfortunately, a lot of people do some weird, moralistic mental gymnastics to justify accommodating entitlement instead of rebuffing it.
You’re correct in theory I’m not at all going to deny you that. Someone is trying to cut in line or acting like an entitled child then yes, by all means set them straight.
It’s just, your theory is a bit hard to put into practice between 2 6,000 lb vehicles going down the road at 70 mph. If OP had held their lane it would have been bad news bears for both of em.
Agreed, which is why I think OP handled it really well. They hit a good middle ground where they didn’t just straight up give the bully what they want, but also took actions to prevent personal injury over making a point.
Completely agree with you. TBH that situation looked a bit dicey from the get go with the truck varying speed, would have been better to have sped up and gtfo or slow down expecting this moron to do what they did, but easier said than done in the heat of the moment 🤷🏻♂️
Just good advice - don't sit in the blind spot.
often they can not see an1 under they mirors
It's often said that the best thing a driver can do is be predictable. Unfortunately It's true, and helps to reinforce some people's main character syndrome. The wisest and often safest options are the predictable NPC behaviors, slowing down for people, yielding, braking, actually letting someone pass you, using your turn signal, etc. To some people that's all optional, and as much as I hate to reinforce their own twisted world view I always let people in, I always make way, use signals, all of that.
What I'm saying is OP should have hit his brakes. Lol
Your a bit of an idiot too for not braking and accelerating on the shoulder.
Exactly what I would have done
You're a poet!
I've done the exact same thing as you in the past, but now when I see a guy bucking to get ahead I just slow down and let him go. I don't need the possible grief an impatient driver can create and it gets him out of my zone.
Imagine that, another idiot in a big truck...
Thats my next car being paid for. Letting them over isnt in my guidebook for driving with idiots on these roads.
Should have let him hit you. His insurance would have loved that.
Moments like this make me want to buy a little beater car, like go ahead and hit me idgaf.
Anytime I sense someone is in a hurry and I’m in the far right lane I immediately slow down to prevent from being cut off. I give people all the room they need to perform their foolishness.
I had a bumper sticker that said," do you care about your car more than I care about mine?" I owned a Ford at the time and hated that thing and wished a shitty driver would test that bumper sticker.
What are we driving tonight?
With how quickly traffic brakes and depending on what was behind OP, wondering how that played out in the rear view. If OP had let this guy get in front of him, he’s definitely the guy that would have honked, flashed and tailgated Mr. Truck.
Your reaction was perfect my friend, got out the way and sped up.
I was riding shotgun with a buddy of mine and someone tried this on him. He straight out pit-maneuvered them because the other driver didn’t use their indicator.
That said, my buddy had a dashcam and when the other driver told the responding police officers that my friend had hit him, buddy just straight out pulled up the dashcam video. Other driver lost his car, his insurance dropped him over negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and then ended up losing an additional lawsuit against him in court because said friend sued him for “emotional distress” over the crash. 😂
I’ve come quite close to having this happen on multiple different occasions while driving on my own, granted, usually my horn gets them back in their own lane.
Accelerating is always the proper response. Better to be dead than tap the brakes and let him merge ahead of you.
