How To Make Yogurt:
Step 1: Buy yogurt……..
Wait till you hear about this thing called vinegar
Wait, what?
Binary fission
Wait, what?
Sounds like a lesbian sex act
Wait what?
Damn you beat me
Damn you beat me
Hmm, a yogurt maker that requires you to add yogurt?
Guessing it’s to bring in the initial bacteria
Isn’t most yoghurt pasteurised though?
I believe the milk is, but then live bacteria is reintroduced. That’s why yogurt is good for you….the live active cultures.
Yogurt has to contain live bacteria by law.
Where
Europe, UK, and the US for sure. Not sure about elsewhere.
Yes, it is the easiest way to introduce the right forms of bacteria, rather than having to buy lactobacillus somewhere online.
But that aside, once you buy yogurt and you make the yogurt you have yogurt until you run out of yogurt but then you can just buy more yogurt. It’s infinite!!
Exactly, once you buy the source yogurt once you can just the yogurt you’re making to make more! Personally I would experiment with different brands/combos to find the right one for me
After a while (between 3 and 5 batches) we usually end up with a sour batch and then have to get a new starter. But we do a couple of litres at a time.
I bet if you had this 8-individual-cup maker, if you had one batch the other seven still work fine.
But we'd have to buy one of these instead of just using a normal pan, a thermometer, a tupperware container, and the airing cupboard. And the batches would be smaller and more frequent too.
You Shut Up! Shut your mouth and buy! Your only purpose in life is to buy & consume merchandise. You don’t ask questions or raise ethical complaints you just look into the bleeding jaws of capitalism and say 'yes daddy please'.
Sounds like sour starter 😏

Thats how all yogurt is made. My mom has been making yogurt for the family for over 40 years now all from the same original batch. Every time we eat all the yogurt she keeps two spoonfuls and adds it to the gallon of milk she boils to make the next batch. So the yogurt we have today has come from the same culture from decades ago.
You either use fresh yogurt or you need to buy the yeast that makes yogurt.
How we figure how to make it the first time I have no idea.
Yeast from the surroundings. Like making cider by simply crushing apples and leaving them to ferment with the yeast found on the apple skin
A great source is fromunda cheese. Love the taste!
what's fromunda cheese
Fromunda cheese nutz!
Yogurtception
Exactly what I came to say too.
I used the Yogurt to make more Yogurt.
I think we had one of these about 40 years ago.
An instapot can also make yogurt.
Honest question. Whats the difference between the initial yogurt and the result yogurt?
Just colder and more diluted?
No difference. This is how yogurt is made. Add yogurt starter to milk let it ferment and do science-y stuff and you get more yogurt.
My mom has used the same yogurt to make her own yogurt for like 20yrs it's wild. Athough she doesn't use a yogurt maker she just boils milk first lets it cool a bit add starter keep in lukewarm temp and then refrigerate once solidified.
Wow that’s crazy cool
Well, it will vary because perhaps the milk used is different from the original yogurt, or the moisture level is different since Greek yogurt, for instance, is lower moisture.
However, the idea of mixing in the original yogurt is to get the same cultures growing in the new yogurt, which should make them pretty close to each other.
You can do all of this without the "yogurt maker". Just like, let it sit
I mean you don't need yogurt maker just warm the milk and add a little yogurt and leave it. Done !
People didn't have yogurt maker few years back and made homemade yogurt this way.
My dad had a similar one he got in the early 80’s redeeming Grape Nut box tops. Only made 5 jars I think…
Great, now I’ll just need the infinite milk hack
Get goats!
No need to for this device. Just add yogurt to warmed milk and leave it wrapped in a towels for a few hours, then put it in the fridge. Tada 🎉
Infinite yogurt glitch?
I am honestly surprised people don’t know how easy it is to make yogurt. Literally put warm milk into a jar of leftover yogurt, cover it and keep it in a warm place for a day. Next day you have yogurt. It’s that simple.
a) requires source yogurt "with live cultures". Some brands won't work due to this. Also, it'll always be a little funky if the source is flavored, so buy some plain as your starter; you can always mix your flavorings when it's served.
b) doable in any crockpot if you have a Digital Temperature Controller (from smoking meat, brewing, sous vide, etc). You need to be able to heat to X, then hold at Y for Z hours. Base crockpots stay too hot. Similar to this.
c) Instant pot's beyond the first gen or 2 have a setting and it works well. Don't mess with little jars though, just do a big pot of yogurt and portion it out just before you refrigerate it.
d) like sourdough, the flavor will change over time. Unlike sourdough, due to yogurt being a mix of different cultures, very often after 2+ cycles the yogurt gets dominated by a single culture and becomes... different. (Mine get too runny/don't gel, but can still be used as a drink (like Kefir)
e) as with all fermentation, keep things clean; it's easy to grow things that are... unappetizing or lethal if you don't follow at least basic processes. Don't *have* to get crazy about it, but there are benefits to doing so.
So now u can use the yogurt u make with other yogurt to make future yogurt.
It’s easier to go to Walmart and get some
This is even dumber than people who call agriculture an infinite food hack
Yogurt maker but you need yogurt?
Add yogurt to the stuff yogurt is made of... the follow the process used to make yogurt. Infinite yogurt hack.
Get an electric pressure cooker. They have a yogurt button already in them. Plus you get a pressure/ slow cooker as well.
Yogurt...........expander
"this gadget is an infinite yogurt hack. If you add yogurt into a jar, you'll have yogurt in a jar"
Infinite yogurt hack: use yogurt machine and yogurt ingredients, to make yogurt.
How to make yogurt: Step 1, add some yogurt.
Does it work with almond or soy milk??
Some yogurt companies literally bioengineer their yogurt specifically so people can't do this.
Damn. People doesn’t know how yoghurt made :o
