Fuck do you have a minute ? Tanev, Ekman Larson, Skej, Monahan, Stamkos, EDMUNDSTON WTF IS THAT???
So many bad deals it's insane .... Lots of panic moves
As Habs fans who have done nothing but revel in demidov highlights we can comfortably crack a brew and enjoy the chaos!
"Strange game. The only way to win is not to play." -- Habs Management
We'll get some leftover vets, I'm fine.
And maybe someone who missed out on UFAs will come knocking on Dvo/Armia/Anderson/Gally, and we package them with someone like Harris/Struble/Barron or picks and get something.
We should send offers to LA Ottawa and Washington before they can't make bad decisions anymore
I still would have liked the team to get a veteran forward presence.. we have virtually no third center.
But I also get it that we don't want to waste cap space when we already have Gallagher on the books for 6 million.
We still have Dvorak who is a perfect 3C
Edit: okay, not perfect, but serviceable.
Yeah I guess you're right. Just hope he remains healthy this year for once.
Technically we have Dvorak, who hasn't been bad the 7 games he's played for us.
Yes he's absolutely been worth the 1st round pick we paid for him /s
The prices are insane though
Depends on the players. I think the Marchessault and Perron contract are fine. Monahan, Stamkos are massive yikes tho.
The David Perron deal made sense, sort of.
Hey Wennberg is still out there, don't count him out yet
Edmundston must have some agent.
DeBrusk 7 x $5.5.
He had 19 goals last season...
The Tanev deal has a good chance of being LTIR’d sooner rather than later, but that OEL deal, that’s hilarious
Oh, and that Monahan deal will age like milk
What are you saying here Stamkos? 8mil for a 80-100pts big name is a very fine contract. We pay Caufield 7.5mil and he's a 60 pts unidimensional player. Even if Stamkos turns out to be on a decrease in his 4 years and do 60-70pts season its still not a terrible contract. Nashville will sell lot of tickets and merch because of this name.
My guy, Stamkos put up the points he had with a 140 pts player. He had almost half his point on the PP. He's 34 y/o and not good 5v5.
Why would he take a spot of a young guy for that. We have the luxury of waiting, not panic and give a shit contract to an old Stamkos. This isn't 2016 anymore
Your old Stamkos did put 40 goals 41 assists in 79 games last season. You guys sleeping.
Stamkos wasn't the one driving the line, watch the games. Kucherov did all the work on the PP for him. 40 points on the PP and he finished -21.
He isn't gonna come here to move Caufield down, that's delusional. Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky was one of the best line in the NHL after the all-star break
I never said he would come with habs? He signed with nashville. I used Caufield contract for comparison. People are so lost on reddit lmao.
Stamkos is useless 5v5
Edmunston is easy. Marc Bergevin in action.
All former Habs have gotten PAID today
Edmunson 3.8 x 4
Monahan 5.5 x 5
Toffoli 6 x 4
Content pour Mohanan et Toffoli. Edmunston est vraiment une fraude avec cet autre contrat de 4 ans. Je suis surtout contant pour Toffoli, il mérite amplement ce average pour ses dernières années de hockey
Toffoli for 6 mil on the sharks
Edmonson 3.8 with term
It makes sense tho for Toffoli
High quality guy, still good, high IQ
Just a solid guy to pair with Celebrini
Toff already has his cups, he won't win hardware, this is money time for him
If he performs well couldn't he get flipped to a contender for a 1st st the deadline?
That's his angle for me. Nice weather and low expectations OR put the pressure on yourself and play your way onto a contender
Anyway you slice it he's got a good deal
No move clause
Also
I also think he wants to return to California and settle down a bit. He's moved a bunch since leaving LA and Cat has been a champ everywhere she has gone. IIRC, she's from California. Time to settle down in Cali and enjoy the life.
Toffoli isn't that bad with the sharks. They're rebuilding ans they need to reach the cap floor he'll be a great vet for them to add.
Edmundson tho... that's an absolute massive yikes.
It's not a bad contract for San Jose to sign. Just one most other teams would or could not do. It seems that they are trying to avoid what Chicago did Bedard's firt year and actually have a full lineup of NHL caliber players.
Monahan 5.5x5
Like, you know who Sean is right?
5 years is a lot of term for a Monahan
Good for him though, he’s a warrior who fought his way back . Respect
Toffoli is fine, its an overpay but there is exactly zero exceptations with the Sharks, Toffoli is a good vet for the Sharks youngs guns. Its expensive but it won't cause any problems to the team...
What else Sharks gonna spend their cap on? Toffoli is a solid winger, nothing but great things where ever he went.
4Years / 24M is a crazy amount of money for Toffoli
I don't know if it's just me, but I find most of them pretty bad
Most FA signings are incredibly bad deals. It's just panic buying to try and beat out competition
Classic Ottawa management
Chychrun has a bad year and all the noise surrounding him in Ottawa hurt the Sens position. I don’t think they could have done much better in those circumstances. Terrible asset management to get to that point though.
The worst deals will be the overpaid ageing defensemen like Edmunson and Tanev. Both smell like Karl Alsner contracts.
Seems stupid to give up on him after 1 full season. Especially considering that season was a shitshow, all your players underperformed and you gave up the 12th selection for him.
Ottawa taking inspiration from the federal government wasting resources for no reason.
Doing things just to do things
lindholm 7x7.75 is crazy bad
Idk that's really not that bad tbh. Not compared to other choices made today.
I know right, he is not in anyway a first center. But the bruins are massively desperate to contend. So let them ruin themselves lol.
He'll probably do ok by just feeding pastrnak tho.
$8m is no longer 1C money though. $8m is an overpay for Lindholm but not by much.
The question also becomes, what is "good" 2nd line centre money now? I was thinking about this earlier today and not quite sure what the answer is to be honest.
With the cap being flat for so long and now about to blow up again it's really changing the landscape all of a sudden.
I think we actually won by not doing anything.
Florida, Boston, Carolina all got worse by losing players. Arguably the Leafs too.
It feels like the Habs are coming out way ahead by doing nothing today. We could probably stand adding something to our top 6, but there's crazy surge pricing going on right now.
If they do add, it will likely be via trade. They e opened up a fair bit of cap space and have a lot of picks to work with. That’s said, How Hughes and Gorton don’t rush into deals unless there’s a long term benefit
Stephenson deal is atrocious
Yup this is the stinker of the day so far for me
Hands down it's Stephenson.
Trenin is pretty bad for 3.5, Edmundson for 4 years at almost 4 mil with his back is nuts.
Chandler Stephenson and Joel Edmundson.
It hurts me to say, but until proven wrong it’s Monahan… healthy he’s a threat, but 5 years contract?
He’s a rental at best
Montour's contract already looks horrible
you guys know the cap is going up significantly in the next few seasons right?
Yep. Prices are shifting and people need to adjust their barometers. Lindholm for $8m isn't much of an overpay, nor is Stephenson for $6m.
Not THAT much
This is so much fun watching teams absolutely shoot themselves in the foot.
With the return alot of players have been getting in these trades its no surprise Hughes hasn't moved any defensemen yet (besides Kovacevic)
Washington is still 14 million over the cap. Even with LTIR they'll be nearly 5 million over. Maybe they move something to Anaheim as they are still 8 million under the cap floor.
Some of these players being traded for peanuts is wild.
2023 1st (12th overall), 2024 2nd (49th overall), 2026 2nd for Nick Jensen and 2026 3rd.
slow clap
Can someone explain the Chychrun trade to me like I'm braindead? I don't understand it.
Why did they give him away for peanuts? Not a single other team wanted him, or was willing to give up more? At that price we should have acquired him. I'm bamboozled.
I live in Ottawa, and I get the feeling that Chychrun is seen as a flake/bad teammate. This is all unspoken, but I think the perception of him around the league is that he’s not a guy you win with.
Glad the fans here are sane. No casuals. Instagram comments on canadiens and RDS accounts (the worst by far) are all like oh i thought kent said we’re going to have a strong off season where are all the real players blablabla get a grip
