Any 12 string fans out there?
QUESTIONNot a fan - they take TWICE as long to tune!
I was joking with someone else that I need a roadie.
You mean re-string? Both of my 12 strings barely go out of tune. If yours is constantly going out of tune you probably need to drop your tuning to C or D standard. Relieve the neck of all that tension. Most 12 strings are a baritone instrument and aren't supposed to be played in E standard.
Play a Guild 12 string and love it.
Same!
Had an F212 and loved it. Have a Ricky and love it more.
Can you play "Rude Mood"? Like Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Alas, I’ve found few who can play like Stevie Ray. :)
I'm having insane fun with my electric 12 string here (Rapier's Saffire), I don't even touch another axe theses days. I'm not a good player or do skillfull songs on it, I just love how it sounds even for things not really intended for 12 strings guitar, like banging hard garage overdriven rock riffs on it. My inspiration is King gizzard's Nonagon Infinity album, the frontman generally use a 12 string hagstrom to play this album live.
I love Nonagon, such a fun album to jam with
IIRC Stu also used the 12 string on the Quarters album, I could be wrong but The River sounds like it’s got that chime to it
I love those guys, I can’t wait to hear the next album
Next album is blues-rock :) We'll see how it goes !
I've always wanted one but never quite felt like it was worth spending the money. Still pick them up every time I'm in a guitar store though
I’m just gonna pull the trigger on a cheap quality mass market one. Like $300. The one I like is $800.
12 strings are an excellent alternative to a 6. I assume most guitarists start as, and remain mainly, 6 string players. 12s bring a nice alternate flavour without having to learn new fingerings. As a person of a certain age, when I think of 12 strings, I think Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven and many other tracks) and Leo Kottke.
My first acoustic was a 12 string because of Leo Kottke. Haven't heard that name in a while. I'll have to revisit for nostalgia.
When I was 5, in 1989, my dad got a 12 string Takamine acoustic. He played all sorts of classic folk and rock songs on it for me: The Boxer, Hotel California, Behind Blue Eyes, stuff like that. It sparked my lifelong passion for guitar and music.
When I moved out my Dad gifted the 12 string to me, and now I play those classic songs on it for my own children
I learned on a 12-string Takamine acoustic before buying my first squier strat. I still have the Takamine, pretty sure it's over 40 years old at this point.
Guitar Center by me had a used Taylor 100 series 13 string for like $500 a while back. It had very nice action and sounded great. I really regret not snagging it.
Ordered a new one on Reverb. Arrived broken. Waiting on the replacement. A few months-ago I received an Alvarez Jumbo 12. But the top was warped. Sent back.
I’m hoping third times a charm with my LAG 12.
LÂG makes a 12? See over been wanting a 12 for no good reason band this might push me over the edge
Sounds like my luck ordering classical/nylon string guitars.
My 12-string Rickenbacker was one of my dream guitars. I love it, but it's a bitch to change the strings on.
Will definitely try.
I would love one but I can't afford it😔 sometimes it just sounds so better
Do I look like I have 12 fingers?
After three decades of playing 6 string guitar, I became a 12 stringer fan last year. Not for every genre, but playing it is a lot of fun. The sound is fantastic. Best wishes
Yes a lot of Mexico uses it for regional music. Personally takamine makes a nice 12. So does Taylor but what don’t they make that’s nice
I like how Malaguena sounds on my 12 string over a 6.
I just bought new strings for my cheap Yamaha 12 string today. Now I hate myself because I have no excuses not to change the strings.
Buahahaha
As a proud 12-string player, I can say with full vibrant confidence that you will spend half the time tuning the guitar and the other half playing out of tune.
But they do sound incredible.
I love my Danelectro. I’m a big Beatles & Byrds fan so that helps lol but It’s more versatile than I expected. I love to crank the distortion and play shoegaze stuff. It sounds great unplugged too.
Hell yes. I love double coursed instruments in general, the first time I strummed a mando in a store I was like "oooh!!!" My 12 string was an impulse buy, on sale, but I love it. Too bad I don't have it with me at my current place.
Love 12 string guitars. Fun to play, Immediately makes me think of Nuno Bettencourt.
Big fan of 12 strings! Got a cheap gear 4 music tele style and have the Squier paranormal 12 jazzmaster. I love both and if i could i'd get an acoustic 12 too, but i'd have to make some space haha
I was considering getting one, but I don’t know how to play it, nor any songs to learn it with
If you enjoy tuning for 2 hours each jam. Maybe.
5-10 minutes lol
And then again after 3 songs. And again after 5 more songs haha
🙋🏻
I remember going to Carter Vintage Guitars for the first time and playing a 12 String, It sounded HUGE.
12-String is the type of instrument I’d never buy myself but I would like to have a friend or roommate who I can borrow one from whenever.
I have a cheap one… I like it right up until it is time to change strings!
I was always a fan of a good 12 string player! I’ve been playing extensively for over 40 years on a 6 string and have never been able to do well playing a 12. For what ever reason, I can never comfortably fret the double strings. So take it from me, a lot of admiration for what you do!
I think my next 12 will be an electric. I had so much annoyance maintaining my Simon and Patrick, I sold it after years. It was an amazing guitar for the time it was in my possession.
John Butler Trio. Not many people have the guts to tune up a 12 string guitar on stage in front of a thousand people and still give a mind blowing show
Yeah. I had a beater 12 string that I traded for a 4x10 cab and regret it to this day. And I love me some Leo Kottke, oh yeah!
My first guitar was a Takamini 12 string that I played for quite a few years.
Somebody had dropped it, split the bottom of the box open, and then epoxied it back together.
I bought it from a musician at the San Jose flea market for $185 in 1977.
Love them but I can't afford another guitar.
Who doesn't lkke the jangle?
Just picked myself up a Guild Starfire XII a few weeks back.
Have yet to purchase one (no space in my house with my 3 electrics and 2, 6 string acoustics 😂
I play a 12 string with 9 strings. No drones on G B E.
Got an Alvarez-Yairi in 1987 or so.
It's luscious
When I was younger, I just had to have one after I saw that video of Jimi playing one.
Never played it but it sounds awesome.
So anyway, here’s hotel California
Definitely thought this was Stone Cold
I've heard this reference for decades going back to my military days and have never asked. Please explain lol.
You just look like Stone Cold Steve Austin haha. That may be the best compliment a man could ever receive from another man.
Awesome lol
People always say they never stay in tune. Is that true?
Brand, tuners, etc. Mine does.
that's not true
They are great for the broken chord, individual notes picked out, but for chords strummed I'm not really into it. Also as has been said, takes too long to tune or change strings.
Daisy Rock Retro 12
nope
/s asf whatchu mean fool?!
I have 32 year old yamaha 12-string and it sounds awesome and i love playing it
I'm definitely a fan of other people playing 12-strings.
