Who has “their chair” now that we’re in our 50s? What kind of chair/recliner do you have?
Does it come in rich, Corinthian leather?
Only if his apartment smells of rich mahogany.
Do you know the model?
Looks like it’s called Gibson, and it’s still made. https://www.la-z-boy.com/p/living-room-recliners-rocking-recliners/gibson-rocking-recliner/_/R-010563?coverId=C191056&ottomanUnits=undefined
Mine looks exactly like the chocolate one just broken in after almost a decade. Leather is still in great condition. I don’t do anything special to treat it, just lounging.
The thing I liked most about it is when you crank it full back you are damn near flat and parallel to the Earth.
I found it at a closeout type place, not LZ direct and it cost half of the posted price in the link.
Good luck on your search!
My grandpa used to look at anyone sitting in his chair and give them "the thumb" to scram.
Our dueling recliners, complete with stairs for our old man void.
Does old man void like to scratch them?
Oh yes! There's three scratching posts in that room, guess where he prefers scratching.
He’s so cute
I do what I want! 🐈⬛
I got this extra wide recliner that is called a "chair and a half." I call it a "chair and a cat" cos a cat fits perfectly next to me.
Mine has room for myself and my 70 lb pooch 😄
I purposely got the extra wide so my dog could curl up with me.
the Eames Chair was always my "grown-up" chair, and a few years ago my wife got me one
This will be my chair one day.
I have one of these too from The Iconic Chair.
These things have their own wikipedia page!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eames_Lounge_Chair
And they start at $6 grand?! Bloody hell.
That’s beautiful
You are living life, my friend!
Mine is a reclining pool float. I go out there at the end of the day, sit, float and read a book
No reclainer or chair I just park it on the couch.
Stressless.
This
I got mine last year just before I turned 50. Fuck me. I’m an old man now.
(at least I got a cool one with a star base and the tufted leather)
Yep a rocker for my front porch.
And get off my lawn!
Did you treat yourself to a Troutman?
Same. It became my chair when my kids started getting up from it if I approached, out of respect.
I'm on my third.
Standard manual recliner, but heavy-duty, so it will hopefully last a while. I got it after my previous electric recliner broke. It replaced a manual recliner that I inherited from my mom after she died (15 years ago today, as coincidence would have it).
I just started looking for my chair last month. After doing due research I have decided a Costco recliner will be the one, when I have an extra $1000 saved up. They won the Best Chair web tests I found. Cup holders, electric recline, USB recharging plugs, storage bin. I thought it was going to be LivingSpaces but no. They were rated fairly low. They self destruct. Costco does not.
Sitting in my La-Z-Boy right now.
I have my Sheldon spot on the couch.
I've had "my chair" in one form or another since I was 15.
I went to visit my Boomer parents last month and fell in love with the rocking chair on their porch. I live in a 1BR NYC apartment with no porch and no room for a rocker. Also the cat would get her tail crushed. So. No. Not yet.
My “chair” is my Tempur-Pedic adjustable, vibrating bed. I guess a skipped a step. 😂
I want to get an adjustable base so bad sometimes. Lol
I love my Tempurpedic adjustable, and if I lived alone, I’d buy a second one to use as my “chair” in the living room. Is that what you did? Are you living the dream?
Now there’s an idea! 😂
Not in my 50’s yet, two more years. No chair, because I can’t get comfortable in them, but I do have my “spot” on the sectional, and everyone knows to move out of my spot once I’m ready to sit down, even our dogs move without being told.
I've had a leather lay-z-boy recliner for 20 years. Still in great shape
It’s just a dream I keep having And it doesn’t seem to mean anything
And every evening when he gets home, to make his supper and eat it alone
In it RIGHT NOW
I’m 59f and just bought my first recliner. It is a Bernhardt Isaac in pale bone. I picked it because it was the least offensive looking and the cushions are what they call “spring down”. They are wrapped in down feathers with a core with springs. I wanted a recliner for a very long time but every time I went to shop for one I was put off by their styling. Most are just hideous. This one is better than most, but still not beautiful so I got sheepskins to put on them.
Avoiding a recliner at all costs.
Physical therapists said once you get in one you never get out.
Best thing I have found is an oversized office chair for a drafting table. The height is right, has back support, and can be firmly upright to a gentle lean.
I’m struggling to guess whether or not this is satire.
I have also been warned away from getting a recliner; they encourage more sitting in the exact same position. We have a couch and a few assorted chairs but I honestly try to sit in the floor as much as possible. At first it was hard to get up and down, now it easier and I’ll keep doing it as long as I can.
Oh my God. Sitting on the floor is so painful. But, I get what you are saying.
I use a desk chair with lumbar and neck support at my kitchen table. Lol I do gaming too so I’m going to get a gaming chair soon. I do use a lift chair because I have a disabilities but I do exercise about every day (yoga and pt exercises) so I use them help but I’m not mush yet. Keep moving and you can still use one and get round. Not totally rely on it. I do have another swivel chair I put my shoes in and that is low but I can get off it and use my walker to help. 😃
Which is why I try to flop on my bed and doom scrolling from a supine position.
Herman Miller Embody.
Herman Miller Aeron.
Stressless reclining sofa. We each have our own recliner on it.
I have two! My wife said she doesn’t like them but then we found some nice ones that don’t look like an old school La-Z-Boy and now she loves hers.
My husband has a spot on the sofa that belongs to him, but I couldn’t care less where I sit.
I have such a fussy, weak back that most chairs are uncomfortable for me.
My husband is giant (6’6”) and all the furniture in the house is scaled up to him. Except my chair. The cat and I love the recliner.
My aunt foolishly gave me her custom couch and matching chair of 20 years because she wanted to buy a sofa bed.
The couch is oversized, clean mid-century vibe lines and made with hardwood, and comfy AF.
Now I've had them for 20 years and just before COVID we had them reupholstered and it was worth every fucking penny.
Hubby loves the chair. I love the couch. Life goal: die on the couch, preferably when I'm 100.
No. Female, 47. I do, however, have my corner of the couch and no one else dares sit in it
I have a burgundy leather club chair and ottoman, that has been "Dads' chair for over 20 years now. It will probably be donated to the Smithsonian when I'm gone. Or, Goodwill. Same thing.
IMG powered recliner, in custom leather. It's my happy place.
My chair is the sofa corner of our sectional. My assprint is permanently etched.
Oh helll yeah! Leather La-Z-Boy recliner. I’m almost 51, had it for six years.
I got a Stickley Leopold chair for my 50th birthday. Most expensive piece of furniture I’d ever purchased but now I’ll spoiled. It’s my chair.
It’s probably the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in. Built like the old days and I’ll hand it down to my kids one day. It’ll last that long.
https://www.stickley.com/products/leopolds-chair-and-ottoman-set
Ooo dang, that looks comfy.
It looks comfy but it’s even better than it looks. Nap? Sure! The guy who designed it used to do that. I’m guilty as well. Reading? Exceedingly comfy. Supports better than it looks. Every one who’s sat in it is shocked how comfortable it is.
I inherited my dad's lazy boy. The foot rest is broken and my wife wants me to buy a new one......but it's my dad's so no.
Ha. Yellow winged arm chair from Ikea with footstool. Generally sit in it improperly.
I actually hate recliners.
I spend more time sitting cross legged on the floor/ground than in chairs so no, not yet. I have two leather Lazy Boy recliners in the living room but no one uses them except company. I sit on the floor in front of one and lean back on the foot rest part when I watch TV.
My only chair is one of the mid-century modern dining chairs with a little bit of padding that I use at my computer desk to make music.
I just turned 50 in May and I'm at the stage where you keep sending the AARP kits return-to-sender, saying, “No such lamo at this address.”
So, I'm in denial basically.
Ha, yes, I call it my "marshmallow chair" and it's in my study. It's a LaZBoy, it's sage green and it is ENORMOUS and PUFFY and SOFT.
Oooh! What’s it called? I need a new chair and I’m trying to find one with the comfort of the old lazy boy chairs without the hideousness of the old lazy boy chairs 😂
Well, it IS hideous (there's not getting around it) but it's called the "Randell Rocking Recliner." It's great for naps, I'll say that much! I was so burned out when I retired that I just wanted the biggest, comfiest chair I could find.
Yep, that’s appropriately hideous! But it looks amazingly comfortable. I’m glad you enjoy it, and thanks for responding!
Turning 49 in two days, but I will preorder mine for next year.
I have my spot on the sofa.
No chair for me; but I’ve got my spot on our sofa that is exclusively mine. No one else sits there (except my 2 chihuahuas, but all I gotta do is snap and point and they bail).
The saddle on my mountain bike.
Username checks out.
Not all of us are that old yet
I'm 53 and just had a shoulder joint replaced. No recliners, plz.
Reclining couch. That way we both get a chair.
Yup. Bought my leather recliner when I bought my house 5 years ago.
A big, comfy, reclining gaming chair at my desk.
Nope but I've got my spot on the couch with my butt divot in it.
None.
bought it at 32 years old
Not yet, but I fully intend to get one.
No chair but i bought a la z boy couch a few years ago. Just a regular couch but upgraded to memory foam cushions. I love it. It’s so comfy
Yep. An Ashley Furniture Darcy recliner in royal blue. Love it. Sitting in it now, with my pc using the tv as a monitor and with wireless keybord and mouse. Living luxe!
I had one from the time I moved out of my parents house when I was 20. An old maroon rocker that was great for napping. It had been my mom's "chair" until she got a new one.
Donated it to Goodwill when I moved across the country 10 years ago. I got a little weepy when I did.
Bought a couch with recliners when I upgraded my living room with a home theater.
My wife and I got a 2-aeat recliner-couch from Lazy-boy.
My chair started as soon as I/we got our first apartment. It was a super comfy Lazy Boy recliner.
It wore out after a bunch of years (and 2 cats), and I was given a used recliner when my in-laws bought new furniture. It was decent, but no Lazy Boy.
I bought my new Lazy Boy shortly before my son was born.
Unfortunately, he has played on it a lot, so the springs are kinda worn out. It's still comfy, though.
Yup
I still have my parent's old couch from 1982. No room for a recliner.
No, but I’ve thought of getting one
We have a comfortable couch with chaise and a twin reclining couch. I tend to sit on the floor so the dogs can sit on the couches.
Yep. We recently splurged on Stressless brand leather recliners.
I do have a cocktail glass and a coffee mug that I don't let my wife trap in the dishwasher. I'll just hand wash them. That way I'm never without them.
Herman miller aeron at my desk. Worth every penny
Yeah, a suede electric recliner. My mastiff spends most of the day in it.
I have wanted an Eames lounge chair since forever, and I was supposed to get one when we did our last renovation but it didn’t happen and now I’m a little bitter about it. Thanks for reminding me.
I’ve had my chair since I was 20 lol. I’m 51 now. I’ve gone thru a dozen chairs or so in that time. They only last a few years then time to get a new one.
I sure wish I did.
In our living room (main floor) we share the lazy couch. It's an IKEA thing with comfy cushions, a long chaise and ottoman, and an after-market teal blue velvet slipcover. We can both stretch out and nap on it at the same time (and still have room for a cat or dog).
In the basement "cave" with the 80" tv, he usually takes the plush sofa and I take the small human-size recliner (a somewhat cheap thing "Ashley Furniture" that was small enough to fit down the basement stairs, and is perfect for my 5'3" frame).
Just got it this year! Lazy Boy wingback recliner. A pendant light. My grandpa's smoking table/ashtray as a side table to hold a book and a mug of tea.....sigh....fits my hairless terrier and I perfectly.
Mine is completely falling apart. I have pillows tucked into the back and blankets to prop up my elbows just right.
I really need a new one, but this mess works great as my “nest” for now (and looks like a nest, too!)
Tried the chair. Nope. Need to stretch out flat to nap. So, the perfect chair is a perfect leather, extra wide, extra long couch, custom made, burgundy leather, with a huge ottoman that the dog can climb up on and hang out. I rotate the cushions from time to time, so that the wear pattern is evenly distributed. Couch is so comfortable, like an extremely well worn pair of shoes that fits just right. Nobody sits on it, because I’m always on it.
Yes
Nursery glider for me. They're smaller and more compact than a regular rocker/recliner like a La-Z-Boy, which is perfect cuz I'm a short, tiny woman.
I’m still in my 40s, but I just got a Stressless Wing chair, it is by far the most comfortable chair I’ve ever had.
I just lay down on the couch
No. I don't have the furniture I want. I don't have the recliner I want. I did manage to get a bed that I wanted. I have settled closer to the vehicle I wanted.
My wife got me my chair for a gift. It's overstiffed thick cloth material. It's got the lever pull. But you can just lean back for a bit of...reclination.
No. I'm incredibly indecisive. My basement TV room is just full of LoveSac beanbags and I move around between them, but probably the big brown one (supposedly for 4 people) is the best candidate for "my chair". Upstairs I mostly sit on the couch.
My grandfather's recliner. It is literally falling apart. But it is still my favorite chair.
You mean like Archie Bunker? Nah
It's a patio chair. I'm out here for hours every evening.
I had my chair when I was 25. I had to get a new one. Both La-Z-Boys.
Comfort is great, but I’ll take the beauty of my Gerald Thurston for Lightolier lamp, and dreamy gazes at it while dozing off, any day. It completes me…sigh.
I still have a manual recliner I bought in late 1989 from Glicks Furniture. It’s not my primary chair, but it’s the one I sleep in my when neck/back hurt too much. So it’s in my bedroom. My wife keeps telling me one of these days she’s going to throw it away.
Nothing else since has come close to feeling as good.
My dad sold me his when he moved in with his new wife. There wasn’t place for it at her place.
I have my nest on the couch. My husband has a wingback chair. I call us Edith and Archie.
Pair of lazy boys for me and my husband. My parents had a couple of sets of them, so I’ve always had them. Never bought into recliners are bad thing. I’m comfortable, so ok.
I have my command station on the couch. That’s enough for me.
I’m almost 44 and I’ve had a lift recliner chair for two years now. Just a cheap one for Amazon. But helps me get up. (I have disabilities so not just old body. lol)
Yes. I have a “Cat Napper” brand with built in heat and massage.
I’ve used ultralight manual wheelchairs since the 80s, does that count?
I bought a recliner in my late 40s. The room is small, so I went with a smaller (but still very comfy) chair. It's mainly where I read since I don't watch TV anymore. Also a good place for a power nap.
My husband and I each have our own Costco recliner.
We have too many couches to fit a chair. My husband has an Ikea swivel chair in his man cave that's also an extension of my library.
No, unless you count my semi fancy office style chair. I do sometimes use it if I'm watching the living room tv.
Yes. Don’t know what kind. It reclines. I love it. Don’t sit in it.
Blue velour swivel rocker that I got at the thrift for $13 about 8 years ago. Someone will probably pry my dead body out of it, because I'm never giving it up.
My maternal grandmother had a swivel rocker in the corner of what the family called her "nest" - the spare bedroom that turned into her she-cave, for lack of a better term - her books, plants, knick knacks, music, etc. Our home office has become my "nest", complete with swivel rocker where I read, stitch, and nap sitting straight up just like she did. I have become her, and I revel in it LOL.
I don't watch tv or hang out at the living room, so I just got myself a real nice executive chair for my desk.
I realized "my chair" came in the form of a Yamaha MODX synthesizer last year. I was discouraged from playing music as a kid, and now I can take lessons. This beast takes up a lot of space in our living room. I have it facing out toward the room and can see the TV. My chair is a keyboard seat, lol.
I wish. My living room is too small for a recliner. I could get rid of the couch and replace it with two recliners but the couch is our second bed as we live in a small one bedroom house. Pretty sure the couch is ruining my back, so not only do I not have my dream recliner, I suffer ergonomically.
I was told it was going to be my father's day gift this year, but we've been putting it off. I'm a small guy, so the chair I have found is a recliner from Lowe's. It's about $248 and fits me perfectly. I've got the perfect spot picked out for it and I'm sure I'll fall asleep in it with in 10 minutes of installing it.
I have a nice La-Z-Boy recliner with motorized leg rest and recline. I 3D printed a tray for my trackball and gamepad so it's my computer chair. They bolt into the sides and curve around to atop the armrest. They slide off and on.
Mine is a spot on the floor
Hey, speak for yourself, I got 3 more years until I'm in my 50s!
The cats and dog occasionally allow me to sit on the very edge of a chair from time to time. Once, they left me a spot in the bed I didn't have to tetris myself into.
adirondack on the balcony..Yes. 👍
We're not all in our 50s. I'm the baby Gen x so I'm just 45 but my "the chair" is a Herman Miller Aeron I bought myself when they had a work from home sale just before the pandemic locked down and I love that thing.
I have not graduated to the armchair yet but we have a spectacular sectional couch and I have a spot and my wife has a spot and the kids never go near those spots. The dogs are assholes and then go wherever they want but they're easy to move.
Heh. I actually started telling my wife in my 30s that all I want for my 40th was “my chair”. She bought me a leather LaZBoy for my 39th. We went to like four different places and I sat in prob 60 different chairs. The one we got hugged me just right. I plan to ride it into the sunset. Hershey Milk Chocolate brown and like a catchers mitt. House rules are anyone can sit in my chair. I reserve the right to boot anyone at any time for any reason or no reason at all.
