My arcade wasn't near my home. Had my folks drop me off at the malls after they gave me money to waste.
i had a paper route =p
I still have residual PTSD from Dragons Lair.
Could’ve paid for my second mortgage with the amount of change I dropped on that game.
I knew when to stop after I dropped $3.75 on the fifth level.
I was a glutton for punishment…
We eventually got a copy for the Commodore 64 and I didn’t do much better at that!
You can play it today even. I still don't do well.
I imagine I’d fare about the same.
So many dollars, one quarter at a time.
Used to own a Karate Champ, just like the one in the picture. Was a childhood dream to own some arcade machines and I've had a few of them. Now I prefer the Arcade1Up versions. It was a magical time growing up during the arcade era in the late 70s through the 80s.
Let's Make a Deal gives away a giant wall machine with all of the old arcade games.
It's easy to mod any old arcade machine, Arcade1Up machine, or the like with all of the old arcade games. When I started getting into collecting full sized cabs years ago, I was surprised how huge of a community there is online for these games. Not only restoring old games but also modding them. It's pretty awesome! I learned a lot about doing that stuff over on the KLOV forums.
I have a Mini Super Nintendo that my sister and her* husband gave me for Xmas some years back, but he loaded like eighty more SNES games on it. I'll still break it out from time to time for the fuck of it.
I did that with the mini-NES I got, put every NES game on it. Many of those games are still a blast to play! When I can't decide which PC game to play, I'll just play some Tecmo Bowl or R.B.I. on it.
I have a mini NES too, but it only has the ten games. I still love Mario and Excitebike.
Healthier then lol
No, because of the secondhand smoke.
Best money spent in my life imo…
GORF took all my chore money.
You have achieved the rank of space cadet
Movie theater…get there at open pay for one movie and spend lots a money on concessions and video games as well as see a few movies…good times.
Went to the theater a few weeks back to see Drive Away Dolls, and after I went out to the arcade and played a few dollars. Most was in the first MK.
And wait in line. The new games always had a crowd around them, with quarters lined up holding places.
Put your quarter on the ledge to mark your spot. I always got chewed out around twelve, but then I was chewing kids out when I was sixteen or seventeen.
"You suck!"
"Get off the game."
“ Your Mom !! “
We hosted my 9 year old's birthday at a Barcade for an hour or 2 and they gave us unlimited tokens for our private party. My son and his cousin defeated the Simpson's Arcade game but I'm really curious how many tokens they dumped into that machine because they just kept on dying. There's no way they would have beat it otherwjse.
Is that the same game as the PS1 or 2?
I remember that now.
Fun fact: the term “barcade” is trademarked by Barcade. Other places like that can’t call themselves that.
When I’d run out of money, I’d desperately look on the floor for any dropped quarters, and a few times, there was one!
I'd check every coin return.
People left credits on pinball machines all the time.
The thing is, there are now arcades for us old folks that serve booze while we play the old classics. It’s great, and it’s bringing the youngins in too
The kid who knew the mortal kombat fatalities was the most popular kid at the arcade.
STOP! JUDGE! RED!
The best was the ones that you found that would take a nickel if you put some backspin on them when putting it in
We were ergonomic before it was cool 😎
My best day I found a fiver and went to the arcade on a Sunday double token day. I blew pretty much all of on roller ball. Hours later I walked out with am/fm headphones and a couple other worthless items.
I regret nothing! Recently spent more than I should have with my son at one in a random mall in Toronto. It was awesome.
My dad lived in BFE, where there was no arcade within at least 75 miles or more, where I lived during the week. Hell, it was an hour and a half bus ride to school every day. My mom lived in Humble, where there was Golf and Games and a Mall, to broke to every get more than two dollars, my siblings and I hung out at Golf and Games so much we got know the owner and the one's that ran it, we do odd jobs around there and they give us the keys to all the games, when I turned 16, that was my first real job.
There was a brief period where every quarter I could scrounge went into the Centipede game at a nearby bowling alley.
I spent so much on Dig-Dug! Probably Centipede as well. Haha.
Dollars? Mine took quarters
I would blow ten at a time.
No we didn’t. My arcade had bar stools.
Cept for that one guy in his 30s with a mullet and a Army jacket that somehow managed to materialize a stool to sit on as he played Defender for hours while ripping cigs.
Wtf with all the fucking acronyms?! JWTFW!
Nintendo systems.
Except they did have those sit down table top pacman consoles....
not to mention we had to ride our bike half way across town with our pockets full of quarters.
