There are like a dozen “documentaries” and books about it, and it has been investigated by Congress two or three times. And an official navy inquiry as well.
If anything, it has gotten too much exposure, considering it’s a simple case of “friendly fire”/misidentification in the fog of war.
(If you really want to cover “forgotten history” maybe do a story on actual forgotten history. Like the this: During the Gulf War, over a dozen British soldiers got killed by allied friendly fire incidents/misidentification. Very few documentaries were made about those.)
Oh and btw: Never mind the fact that nobody has ever come up with a convincing theory, as to the motive behind the attack.
The very manner in which the USS Liberty was attacked, disproves that this was a deliberate attempt to sink the ship.
Remember what those Mirage jets were armed with?
Napalm... Which is pretty much the last thing you’d bring along, if you want to sink a ship. Napalm doesn’t sink ships. Iron bombs do, but (according to the Israelis) the Mirage jets had been diverted from other targets, and hence only had napalm bombs.
Trust me, there’s nothing forgotten about it.
