I’m sure some of you noticed there wasn’t a new article this Friday, well here’s why.

I’ve been mulling this decision for a couple months now and between looking at the quality of my articles and my original intent for Forgotten History I feel there is really only one decision. I will no longer be publishing articles weekly. This wasn’t an easy decision as I do like to keep new content flowing as often as possible but ultimately I think it will be the right choice in the end. For starters it’s incredibly difficult to thoroughly research a topic in just a few hours a day, you have to remember that I do have a full time job and other responsibilities in addition to the website. I could do less descriptive articles like many websites who publish weekly articles but that’s not what I want. I have always want my articles to tell the whole story of an event and not be just a summary of what happened. I think I’ve been mostly successful in achieving that goal but there have been a few exceptions and even in my more thorough articles there are details left out for the sake of time. Adding to that, I want to start having more written and primary sources and not depend so much on what is published online. Just by looking at the articles I have written that used books and more scholarly sources as compared to those that didn’t I know already it will greatly improve the quality. Second I feel that I have not been keeping true to my original objective. It’s near impossible to write about lesser known historical events without taking the time to find and sift through primary sources. This in turn causes me to write about more well known events where sources are more readily available. That’s not to say I will never again write about a more well known person or event but I want to limit that to certain occasions. Third, I have not been able to be as active on social media and network with others as much as I would like. Instead of taking time to talk to like minded people I’m usually working to finish researching, writing, or editing an article in order to get it out on time. Overall I think this will help my exposure as I will be able to share what I write with others and talk with them more about it. Finally, I have other projects and ideas that I would like to work on. I don’t want to share any of them at the moment but most of them pertain to Forgotten History and I think will be of great interest to many of you once they are put forward. Having less of a time crunch will help me to put more of my energy towards bigger things. I hope you all understand, I’m sure most of you will. Just try to keep in mind that I’m a one man team and I can’t do everything at once. I have toyed with the idea of finding someone else to help out and maybe even write their own articles, so that’s perhaps something for the future as the website continues to grow. As of right now I’m not going to set any sort of time limit for articles, there will be shorter articles that may come out one week after another because there are some event I want to write about that are interesting but don’t have the substance to them to take up so much time. However in turn there are articles like my recent Aroostook War one that will take me 3 to 4 weeks to complete. Thank you guys for reading this and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Forgotten History.

Update for this week

There is no article this week. I started working on one and for some reason just switched over and started working on another, and I finished neither. I considered doing a quick book review but thought that it would just feel disingenuous. At least for the next two weeks there will be for sure an article as I got both about halfway done, and I think I will do 4 articles this stretch before taking a break to make up for this. Just wanted to make this announcement, hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

One Year Anniversary

I almost forgot but today is the one year anniversary of when I started the Forgotten History website and published my first article. I just want to thank all of you for your support and hope to continue writing articles that you all enjoy.
