19 years ago, The Pussycat Dolls released "Don't Cha" featuring Busta Rhymes.
ThrowbackAND BUTTONS. Such a weird time looking back.
🎵 I'm telling you to loosen up my buttons, babe (Uh-huh)🎵
This was my jam.
PCD was so ridiculous. I think like three of them actually sang. Then there was the reality show to become the next Pussy Cat Doll.
When I Grow Up was a banger too
Lol, I think only two of them sang. Nicole and Melody. Carmit is the third and final member I can actually name with certainty. I think one of the other 3 was named Jessica? But honestly, what a shame that efforts weren't made to give each member of the group a moment to shine. What do any of the other girls besides Nicole and Melody sound like? With their setup, the group should have just been called Nicole Scherzinger and the Pussycat Dolls.
I watched both seasons of that reality show. I unapologetically still enjoy some of the songs from the Girlicious album. I agree about When I Grow Up, and Whatchamacallit from the Pussycat Dolls' second album is also a certified banger. So is Beep, and I Don't Need a Man from their first album.
Yeah... I'm spending some time on Spotify tonight. These nostalgia feelings are hitting me very hard right now.
I had such a fight with my Highschool boyfriend when he thought I danced too hard to I Don't Need A Man lol. Such a banger. Boyfriends been gone for 15 years, song still slaps
Carmit was an original member, back when they were a burlesque act/dance troupe. She also appeared as a background dancer in MJ’s Blood on the Dance Floor music video. Another original member of Pussycat Dolls? Christina freaking Applegate!
I know! It always rubbed me the wrong way that Carmit was an original member but was always in the background when the group became a girl band. The other 5 girls' talents were wasted in this group.
One of them always ALWAYS did that standing split thing in their videos 🤣
TBF, if I could do it, I would do it everywhere. Waiting for the bus, leg in the air. Waiting in the doctor's office, leg in the air. Getting something out of a high cupboard? Leg in the goddamned air.
That reality show was such a vibe. I remember when they made over the contestants and gave half of them bangs, like razor cut just over the brows. Next weekend in the club, half the ladies had that similar hairstyle. What a time to be alive.
Let's also add in America's Next Top Model if we're talking about awful makeovers. hahaa
The Pussycat Dolls Search for the Next Doll and Girlicious were formative reality TV for me lmao.
Big Snoop Dogg with the lead Pussycat 🎵
What a banger. Brings back so many club memories. Good times
And doing a lil chest pop during the Uh-huh
My fav PCD song
And When I Grow Up. I swear all of PCD’s music is my get-confident-you’re-a-bad-bitch music.
BUTTONS WAS MY JAM
Still is!
And Beep. And Stickwitu. And I Hate This Part Right Here.
Now that is still a great song! 😂
English is not my first language, so I loved these songs growing up while being oblivious of the sexual undertones since I didn't understand the lyrics.
A couple years ago, I was feeling nostalgic and went back to songs like "P.I.M.P.", "Candy Shop" or "S&M", and I was baffled by what I was listening to as a kid. 😂
Same HAHAHA i remember being like 8 and jamming to Buttons. A girl in my class sung Whistle by Flo Rida in front of the whole school for a talent show and was mortified to later find out what the song was about.
If it makes you feel any better, English is my first language and when I first heard Toby Keith’s (ugh) “I Love This Bar” when I was about seven, I honestly thought he was talking about a granola bar.
If it makes you feel any better, english is my first language and I was already an adult, but I was devastated when I found out Cake by the Ocean wasn't actually about cake.
I remember arguing with my mom who was singing this song because they played it in her lunchtime fitness about how it was gross. I was like thirteen and clearly a pleasure to live with lol
I'm shocked I'm not stealing people's significant others because this song was such a formative thing in my life.
Tbf in the song, in the second and third verse, she says "let's keep it friendly" and "maybe next lifetime" so she explicitly doesn't want to steal the guy away from his gf!
I was surprised when I listened to the whole song that it's not as morally corrupt as it seems at first lol
I don't know, the last line (until there, old friend, your secret is safe with me) always made me think that something did happen - but maybe it's just that she realized the guy was into her and just decided to keep the secret and not really act on it. I had never thought about it in that sense - maybe that's why I didn't grow up to become a homewrecker after all lol
It’s true and I adored the crop hoodie, Nicole is goals
REALLL
I remember hating this song cuz it was so dumb but singing it anyway cuz its catchy as hell
It's giving nlog but I love it. Felt sexy listening to it.
Such a fun song and I loved changing up the lyrics like a dumbass. "Doncha wish your girlfriend was FAT like me? Doncha wish your girlfriend smoked CRACK like me? Doncha!"
My oldest was born that day. 😆
I know! I was 21 when this came out 😭
Came here to say this
My first thought! "No, that' can be right. I was in college at the time. Oh. Oh..."
Me, an 11-year-old, certain the boys wished their girlfriend was raw like me
raaaaaw
Don't chaaaaa?
Edit: Mods, can I get "Sylvia Plath did not stick her head in an oven for this!" as my flair?!
This flair is amazing lol
Wait I want this flair too!! Never has the first line in a review been that amazing 😭
Lmaooooo i certainly thought the boys wished their girlfriend was a freak like me (I was 12)
Me as a 12 year old boy, also confident, that other boys wished there girlfriends were hot like me
Stop, I just told my sister I thought I was at least 13/15 when I was jamming to this and DISTRAUGHT that I didn’t look like them, I just realized I was 11 when it came out!! our generation was so overexposed lmao
Naaaaaaa fuk you I'm creasing 😂😂 (same age)
Hahahaha for real though
This song reminds me of a penne vodka lean cuisine frozen dinner. I have nothing else to add
This is so specific and weirdly accurate
lean cuisine frozen dinner
/thread
I appreciate your take so much
why is this so accurate? do we all have the same brain?
OMFG I can smell this comment and hear this thread
I need to know why 😂
cries in elder millennial
Cries in Gen X
I too was in college when this song came out
I was 26.
Y'all whippersnappers need to get off my lawn.
I was 27 with a 2 year old.
I wanted one of those hoodies Nicole had so bad lol
Her and Gwen Stefani had the coolest hoodies
And they looked so good in them! Whenever I wear a hood up I look like a pinhead.
i bought this exact hoodie on poshmark last year for like $80. well worth every penny. i wear it all the time!
I was looking at that hoodie on postmark last year and it was bought out from under me was it YOUUUU 😭
oop. my bad!
LMAO this sent me
Lmao I love your taste though, i hope you wear it like the hot girl you are!! I still look on there sometimes in the hope of another one 😭
Omg! Lucky you
This song and Buttons were bangers
The choreography of both of them is still memorable
Omg yes!
early 2000s had some amazing pop songs. Sadly i was in my teens, so i was dancing to this in my room by myself lol
The dance studio bars?? The Snoop feature? Yess!!!
And now she’s Andrew Lloyd Webber’s muse. It’s wild.
She just won an Olivier award! Congrats to her!
She’ll win a Tony when the show comes to Broadway!
Hopefully!!!
I have no idea why I always want the best for Nicole.
I'm way out of this loop - what has she inspired from Andrew Lloyd Webber?
Sunset Boulevard reimagining
I still like watching her sing phantom of the opera
Nicole ate down with this one tbh
19???
19!!!!!!
Between this and Suri Cruise turning 18, I am feeling especially old today
Suri turning WHAT?!
I know, that one hit me right in the olds
I'm still young and beautiful, I whisper to myself as I read this headline.
No ma'am, you are eternal & iconic.
That means I was a junior-senior in high school 19 years ago. That can’t be true 👵🏻🫠
Oh God, I was the same age.
Let’s wheel ourselves down to the retirement home. I hear it’s pudding night.
Pudding shots! Then we can do some crossword puzzles and go to bed by 9!
Girl I'm in my 40s and I was asleep before 8:30 😂.
Someone pass me a blanket please, it's cold...
I was mother of a toddler. So yeah. I'm feeling my ol bones today.
Kind regards to 10 year-old me listening to this song somewhere for the umpteenth time and singing along phonetically to the chorus because I didn’t know any English yet
I just watched a documentary style video about these girls and how bad they were treated and the main girl, Nicole I think, hated the song and thought it was gross.
Can you put the link here please? I'd watch that doc type video, I'm very curious.
Here you go!

BJ investigates has a few videos about the contracts. She’s a lawyer and was involved in the free Britney movement.
2000's were a rough time in ladies fashion:
- Chunky hair streaks/highlights
- Exposed g-string and bra straps
- Low rise jeans cut just above the labia
- Ed Hardy
- Tramp stamps on display
So glad it's over. Now if we can just get through our current butthole leggings trend. {sigh}
Oh yeah, I had that Christina Aguilera blonde-with-red-and-black-streaks thing going on back then.
Oh girl, we were all guilty of something back then. Lol Bunch a fashion criminals.
What are the butthole leggings trend?!😭
Leggings designed to go up into the ass crack, so they're worn flush against the butthole.
So damn nasty. Lol
Ah god yes the buttcrack leggings. I hate them so much
They actually come up if you Google "butthole leggings!!" Bahahahaha!!!
Every once in awhile I just mumble “don’t cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me” thanks for reminding me
I do the actions while I'm washing up and forget when my kid comes home from uni.
Him: 😒😬😬🤢
I’m an 84 baby and celebrating a milestone birthday in a week- this almost feels worse lol
84 baby here too! I just turned 40 but I feel alright. Like it's a nice fresh decade. I prefer being at the start of a decade than the end of one. It's like being a freshman in college versus a senior in high school.
Someone is doing some sexy floor-work-heavy dance choreo in stiletto boots? You bet it’s to this song
Or mopping in their kitchen in tracksuit pants and a shirt that has a slash of water and soap bubbles.
This came out when I just turned 21. I was working in my first full time corporate job. Spent my weekends at DnB gigs, living off Red Bull + vodka and Marlboro Lights 😂
~a moment in time~
What are "DnB gigs"? Yeah, I'm old, or out of it, or both ;)
DnB is short for drum and bass - a genre of electronic music. It hit its peak in the early and mid 2000s 😊
Aaaaah I actually went to several DnB gigs back in those days, just wasn’t online like this then - never seen that abbreviation before LOL! Thanks for explaining!
I remember waiting days for the video on limewire like it was yesterday
what a time!!!!!! Lol this was right when I was starting to go through puberty and I wanted to look like them sooooo bad
Fun fact: Christina Applegate was a founding member of the Pussycat Dolls
Also this queen.
I still remember the choreography to my sorority’s lip-sync dance to this song. I would probably pop my knee and/or hip out of socket if I attempted it though 👵🏻
What's crazy to me is that Busta had been performing almost 20 years by that time, and still putting out albums as of last year. Dude is a legend
My 40 something year old self will still drop it to this one lol
Incredibly rude that this was 19 years ago 😭
My first time as a department head for a skilled nursing facility and the nurses called me “pussycat doll”. It was flattering and embarrassing at the same time lol I think of that every time I see them or hear their songs haha
I remember them opening for xtina, I hate being old
Well that makes me feel rather geriatric.
I was in year 6 in primary school when this song came out. One of my friends liked this guy but he had a girlfriend so we would all run around the payground singing this song replacing "hot like me" with her name because it rhymed. My what a time, I can't believe it's been 19 years!
Melanie? Lol
God I loved them when I was in my 20s. I thought I was so hot getting ready to their songs and I had their album
MattDamonBecomingOld.gif
All the singles from their first album PCD were fire.
The song from Slumdog Millionaire was a banger as well
I love then so much
Still a Bop!
Omg I remember my bff in HS got the licensed hoodie in white that they sold after and was what Nicole wore in the video and I was sooo jealous. I got to wear it once or twice and felt so cool in it
this song changed me, not in any meaningful way I was like two, but I will shake ass whenever this plays
No offense to Nicole Scherzinger, who is undoubtedly very talented, but I grew up seeing her as the quintessential industry plant. A lot of people seemed to be working overboard at this time to make her happen and it never quite worked out.
That beat where she holds the backs of 2 chairs & kicks her legs out sideways like a karate kick to break wood on both sides? This whole song & video are so well done, cringey topic aside. Eternal bop!
I'm kinda bummed that Nicole never went super far in a solo career. Her voice is actually amazing.
19 years you say...
I refuse to believe it was that long ago
This has been one of my favourite songs for 19 years now. I still listen to it regularly and know every word of it.
Classic
Wow I feel ancient
lol I was at the Tonight Show taping where they performed this and they started by saying, “This goes out to all the ladies!” The lyrics would disagree. 😂😅
I was learning the don’t cha music video dance moves with my friends in sixth grade. Wow, 19 years ago.
If this player in the club during your uni years, remember to put Tylenol extra strength on the grocery list.
This song definitely contributed to my sexual awakening. I remember recording myself singing this for my bf at the time 😌
Still a banger to this very day
Damn. This song was everywhere my Junior year of HS
Every time I randomly think of this song I watch the video again and I think, what are these clothes?
Good Lord I feel OLD!!!
I miss it 🥺
This song MESSED with my head. I loved it but it made me so insecure.
Ate
Titty Bang Bang
If you know, you know
Everything aside, she is one hot woman! Like I remember being smitten by her so much when I was a teenager 😭 nowadays, I don't see anybody like Nicole.
they ate
Wow, I'm old.
Wait this was sixteen years ago? Fuck…I’m old…
That Nicole was a nice pussy cat
I always thought Nicole was way older than the others
The early to mid 2000s were such a good time for pop music :<
Woah
I didn’t know busta was on that track
NINETEEN??
I found a 12” Single of this in some random record shop and it’s literally my prized possession!
The b-side doesn’t have any of the swears blanked out and i almost fainted when she said “fucking with me” 💀
I’m old my god
19 years? I feel like a senior citizen now.
Ohh I miss their run. Groups just don’t have back to back bops like this anymore
Tori alamaze fans in shambles
I know this song is problematic and generally symptomatic of that good ol early aughts misogyny, but goddamn if it doesn’t go hard. It’s got a great beats, the harmonies are awesome, and that chorus? THAT CHORUS? I may or may not like to belt out “DONCHA WISH YOUR GIRLFRIEND WAS A FREAK LIKE ME” when I’m high. It’s just so much fun.
