Some Royce and Em back and forth through verses would be awesome. Those two together are like no other duo. Bad meets evil is absolute fire. "I'm on Everything" is the pinicle of rap legends going back and forth in the same verse and meshing it all into cohesive verses that will literally scramble your brain the first, second, and third time listening to it. I've listened to it provably over 100 times and still am in awe of how they switch off mid verse several times with perfect flow.

I've seen several mention this as well and almost all of them said they kept "expecting" something. Totally get that, we can become conditioned by music and develop expectations and anticipations. That's almost always going to affect our perceptions. Your observation about the effect of the metal kinda underscores that. It's hard to go into things like this with no expectations. That said, I liked that they went that route with the beat because it's not typical, got people to notice, I see that as art. However, art tracks aren't a great move for singles.

They're a way to gauge how much interest there is in an artist or album, so normally you want your singles to reflect the sound and theme of the album, the most representative tracks. I agree they nailed it with houdini, but making a claim that everyone else is missing the point with Tobey is where I disagree. It's not a bad song, it's just an odd choice for a single, to use the opportunity to feature other artists. You might say em is so big he doesn't care about that stuff and just wants to boost their profile, sure maybe, but I'm pretty sure if em had it his way he wouldn't release any singles, he would just drop the entire thing unannounced, given his issues with piracy. Single choices are a publishers decision, and people are questioning why this song, when it doesn't fit the mold of a single, even if they don't know everything I just word vomited, they know the vibe and hype they should get from a single, which is missing in Tobey.
