When he was 4 he was kidnapped and his father got killed protecting him. Then trained with Piccolo which was bad at first though he warmed up to him so that was nice. Then a bunch of his father’s friends died in front of him and then a person he considered a friend dies too and he sees his father be crushed and he is beaten to a pulp.
In the Freeza Saga, he gets his neck snapped… at 5 or 6 years old. Sees more death too.
Then in the Cell saga, he watched a bug man torture his friends and family, then eventually watched his father die. He also loses use of an arm and has the fate of the world on his shoulders. He is 10-11 at this point.
The first 10-11 years of his life was filled with so much trauma it’s surprising he turned out to be as normal as he does.
Which is why it's completely understandable why he just wants to be a student.
"I like math. Math has not killed or maimed my friends or family"
Oppenheimer:
Einstein:
Schrodinger:
How Kochin in DBZA movie would say: ...the Atomic Bomb
Forgot he is canon in DB
Dr Gero would like a word
Math did hurt Gohans friends and family. Cyborgs did.
Kinda weird he studied bugs then.
Bugs are just flesh math
People getting huffy about Gohan not wanting to train or turning down fights. “Training” has brought him nothing but pain. Fights aren’t fun, they’re life and death.
No one let him choose what he wanted.
People forget that Goku and Vegeta are full blooded saiyans, and Gohan, while half, is more attuned to his human side.
You met humans? We have more in common than we think. We’ve also met enough Saiyans and seen enough of planet Vegeta by this point to say the Saiyans were people, who had fully defined personalities and thriving inner lives, and were not all obsessive battle crazed barbarians. Some Saiyans just fixed the ships, or built the buildings, or made the food. The Saiyan battle obsession was a cultural thing not all of them subscribed to. Even if they’d be looked down on for it.
Every fight Gohan was involved in for the first 9 years of his life was a death match with the fate of the world on the line. Hell even Goku got to fight in a few Tournaments where the only thing he was fighting for was to be recognized as Number One...
I just commented that his decision to "not fight" anymore would be a trauma filled circumstance ^^. Your statement and mine makes it the perfect trauma.
Understandable that he quits. BUT
bc he quits, he can't help and is forced to watch others being hurt. Damn.
Well, Chichi pushed him in that direction a lot
I WONDER WHY! Maybe because it’ll mean her son might die fewer times than her husband has!!
I never understand why people are so frustrated with Gohan not using his potential and stuff. He's just by far the most relatable tbh and him not being an absolute wreck speaks volumes about his mental strength lol
But it was better back then right? -trunks in the future
No wonder he just wants to chill out as an Adult and study Ants.
He doesn't lose an arm in the "main" timeline.
Loses use of an arm, fixed it. Hopefully it’s more clear now, thanks!
In cell saga his dad died because of his mistake and then Goku uses the death to just not come back. So even though Goku had his 'reasons' (excuses) to not return, if he hadn't died he'd definitely be there. So Gohan probably felt a lot of guilt in those 7 years before Goku came back -well, was forced to come back because he had to be alive in order to fight Buu...
As normal as "the embodiment of weaponized rage" can be
Two words future timeline
Came here to say this. I hate how much people puss on Future-han. He's such a fucking a goat.
I hear nothing but praise for Future Gohan whenever he's brought up
People hate "How weak he was" and "How pathetic he went out why did he try to fight alone" and "Why didn't he work to surpass SS2 he was an adult" so on so forth. People are a bit dense.
Like not understanding he didn’t fight Cell in the future, thus never unlocked the emotional stress to achieve SS2.
Plus ignoring that his journey went from no SS as a child post Freeza to androids where everyone died and his SS was only marginally stronger than Vegeta’s….but also in a constant 1v2 with another child to look after for general hope to flourish.
He also unlocked SS1 on his own. Goku died of a heart virus early, so grade 2 and 3 never happened. The "make SS your normal state" or time chamber stuff didnt happen. He was in survival mode for awhile.
Yeah, he went the entire duration of post Namek to essentially early Buu Saga (Babidi and Dabura came much later in the future as a result of 17/18) only having a weaker SS in constant defender state.
RoSaT was post 2nd Cell which was….3 years, maybe a month + the additional [2 years] or so in the chamber.
So yeah, he was running on whatever Zenkai he could get with his remaining senzus each time, and that caps out/plateaus after enough time passes.
Still a wonder if Korin and Popo were ok considering where they lived though. No one beyond martial artists and the team ever really seemed to know that the Lookout even exists, not counting the Karinga Tribe living beneath it.
Fr
He is
Was*...? Is...?
Temporal mechanics suck 🤣
I wonder why he never went beast mode or ssj2 or anything though. Plot? He completely ass-pulled beast mode in DBSuper.
Gohan has potential?yes ,but he unlocked it through anger and training with goku.in the future timeline goku dies and the z fighters too so noone can teach gohan how to develop and fight to unlock his potential
Honestly, even if Future Gohan had gone ssj2 it might not have been enough to beat the androids, in the manga continuity at least, it took only Android 17 to kill him and apparently it only took like half of his power to do that.
I sincerely doubt that, since Trunks was able to kill them both and Imperfect Cell without SSJ2.
That's DBS Gohan. Future Gohan worked for his shit.
So I actually am not a Gohan fan boy at all.
That being said, I consider myself a fan of Future Gohan.
I only wish he was revived. I wish everyone was revived in Trunks timeline and they lived happily ever after. The way Super killed off his entire time line and Bulma really gets me.
DBS handled so much shit poorly tbh.
People are blinded by their love of the franchise and it prevents them from ever seeing the facts.
Zamasu was a shit villain with a shit premise. Goku going "woopsie daisy" not once but twice was bullshit. I hate how dumb they made Goku. And Trunks Rage power-up and Soulsword BS was the biggest asspull I've seen in an anime since the time god battle in Fairytail...
Trunks, Gohan, Bulma, EVERYONE deserved better.
Agreed.
I'm rewatching Super right now and amazed by how stupid Goku is consistently.
The one thing they did right was improve on Goku and Vegeta's relationship. BoG and RoF are vanilla and bland IMHO, but the time between where Goku and Vegeta are training with Whis is good material. Goku black arc was mysterious and the conclusion was horrendous. As mentioned earlier, killing off Trunks' entire timeline is an unacceptable conclusion. Rather than bringing the decades of suffering and pain to an end, they just killed it off. The Universal Survival Arc is paced terribly and had a great ending.
I consider Super as Canon as I do GT. Neither were directly written by Toriyama which is how you get random power level ass pulls :Trunks surpassing SSB cuz mad, Gohan Surpassing SSB cuz mad, Frieza closing a decade of power gaps by training for 6 months, U6 saiyans literally doing back tickles to achieve the super saiyan form of legend.... Shit's whack.
I agree with everythinh except freiza. At least there was premise and buildup to that by establishing his potential for fast and large growth. And made him throw his ass in a time chamber for it. I'm not saying it's not bullshit. Just not quite as bad as Beast trunks and gohan lol
Yea I mean I get it too. I guess I was a little pissed off because in my opinion the only reason Frieza should have ever come back would be for Vegeta to get revenge but they are pumping him up as a Joker type character to Goku. Always around just waiting for his next evil wrong doings.
I mean he does have canonical Hatred for Goku. Freiza was living large until Goku inconvenienced him by... yknow...
I hardly agree on Zamasu, and besides the anime, i rly like the manga, i mean, atleast we got something better than GT lol
Zamasu literally voiced his entire thought process about the needless violence of mortals. So what does his mentor... who KNOWS he's already got issues do? Shows him mortals commiting Violence after years of evolution...
But don't stop at his backstory mind you. Let's examine what he proceeded to do after killing Gowasu. Apparently NO-ONE Noticed the death of a god of destruction or the subsequently inactive Angel. Ok... maybe it just slipped.
So he goes around the universe wiping out all mortal life and just... "stops" on earth? For some reason? He could destroy the entire planet or even a city with a flick of his wrist. But no. Cat and mouse woth trunks. Some random mortal he's never met before...
Oh but. Even AFTER they came back with a time machine after he destroyed it he goes "Oh cool... whatever. I'll just wait here for the next round. STILL hasn't blown up the planet. I can go on and on and on....
Yea you're right. Zamasu had no reason to be on Earth.
This, I mean, where was that timelines Jirren? He would probably have been worth the scuffle. But fucking Trunks?
Bro this is dragon ball, almost every arc after the frieza saga has moments like this lol, if anythig Zamasu is cool for being deeper than your avarage "im an evil guy" Villain, like Frieza or Buu.
In the end those are the same dragon ball tropes lol, a villain playing with fire and so getting their ass kicked, nothing that didn't already happen in Db, it was always like this.
Do you realize that Dragon ball is inconsistend af? 😭
Atleast Zamasu tried to be more than just a plain evil guy.
Vegeta and Nappa: Wanted to kill Freiza, found out about the dragon balls. Went to take them.
Freiza: Wanted to conquer the universe. Found out about the Dragon balls. Went to get them.
Androids: Were pre-programmed to with a desire to kill Goku. But Gero forgot the 3 laws. Their motivation was a proxy of Gero's motivation for revenge.
Cell: Gero didn't learn. Did he?
Even Beerus: Was seeking the super saiyan God.
Zamasu?: Didn't like that mortals killed eachother. So he killed them....first? No let's try that again.
Zamasu?: Thought Mortal's didn't Value life so he decided not to Value it either? No... that's not right...
Zamasu?: Was just a random unchecked, divine asshole who in his disgust for mortals and their "Filth" took a "Mortals" body. Killed indiscriminately and then settled up on earth to torture the inhabitants of that one particular planet. With no specific motivation after Goku was gone of course.
Now why didn't i mention Buu? Because i wanted to wait until right now.
Majin Buu... wanted something. So he did it. First he wanted to eat. And for a while Bibidi could control him only barely. That didn't end well...
Then he wanted to fight. So he fought. And the Z fighters had to stall for time and options.
Then when evil buu came out he wanted to wreak Havoc. So he did. He went to the AFTERLIFE my guy... (Although that was filler.) Looking for people to pick a fight with.
And he messed around with Goku even though he had him outgunned because killing him wasn't the goal. Toying with him was.
Zamasu "Wanted" to kill all mortals but just...stopped? The hell kinda sense does that make?
Yes I hated trunks going to live in another timeline. It would have been kinda cool if he stayed in the main timeline, but to ship him off to some random timeline was ridiculous.
Zamasu should have been bested and defeated in humiliation as Frieza and Cell were. The timeline and earth should have been saved. Everyone should have been revived. That's my head - canon.
Imagine Vegeta's reaction being revived after all this time. So many opportunities.
Yeah it's a shame they couldn't have used the super dragon balls there
In this timeline, Majin Buu never happened. The entire cell saga didnt happen either.
So what? Everyone he knows and loves died and that didn't trickle a single one of Gohan's ass-pulls? Guess it shows his random power-ups are plot devices.
I mean he went SS1 because of trauma, he was never taught it. They still get incrimentally stronger. Goten didnt randomly go SS3 when his mom was turned into an egg by Buu.
My theory is he couldn't really train that often. I'm sure whenever he raised his power level, he probably had the Androids hunting him.
Because if future Gohan is constantly seeing traumatic shit then he's going to become numb to it and adjust, as people often do.
Because Gohan's power is motivated by strong emotions stirred by injustice, future Gohan is going to have to see some insanely dark shit for him to feel the kind of trauma he felt when he first saw a loved one die.
Present Gohan doesn't have the same numbness that future Gohan does.
meh. Nah.
Not a single one triggered him apparently.
He lives in the boonies but I doubt he does that...
The first 12 years of gohans life are traumatic in general the bad thing about the future timeline is, that it just doesn't end
He was five years old when they did this to him
The Ginyu Force traumatised Gohan so badly, the dude later on in life coped with that thought and the feeling of getting his neck broken by cosplaying as a superhero who loves to do weird poses.
Despite all the things he turned out just fine. He is his father's son after all. Now imagine if all the crap he went through screws him up and make him the villain. 💀 Vegeta at his worst wouldn't be as deadly as evil Gohan. Let him cosplay and study his butterflies.
I'll be honest I thought he was 6.
As if the one year makes a huge diff 🤣
Oh, Ik it doesn't. Still fucked up what happened to Gohan, I'm just saying for the longest time I thought he was 6 and I'm glad to have gotten that cleared up
I mean it’s like an extra 15-20% of life at that point lol
I think the broken neck gives him a -25%.

Gohan personally, he’s like 5 and at this point likely going to be killed. Recoome isn’t your normal fighter, absolute no chill and just whales on Vegeta/Gohan and Krillin.
Videl at least had a chance to give up and had other fighters there to protect her.

Trunks' timeline
when you realize that this was technically the original timeline makes this so much worse
His worst moment in life is future saga
-Father dies of natural causes so he straight up can’t be revived
-Mentor and Dad’s friends he interacted with get killed so he can’t even vent frustrations with an experienced warrior.
-Androids proceed to beat him down throughout the years but with no training he can’t mold his power to gain strength(perfected SSJ for example)
-Loses his arm
-Gets toyed with by the androids who pretty much mock him that he would’ve been disposed of at any time when they felt like it
-Gets erased by Zeno
gets erased by Zeno
Wait Gohan was in the Goku black saga?
No, but he was in that universe's afterlife. Everything got erased, including that afterlife.
Puddlehan.
His whole childhood before the cell saga.
Kidnapped at the age of 4, his dad dies in front of him, gets kidnapped again by his dad's rival who forces him to survive and fight for himself for a whole year.
Witnesses more murder in front of him, gets beat by two Saiyans, goes to another planet and witnesses an alien mass genocide. Gets brutally beat up and have his neck broken by a group flamboyant elite troops. Fights someone who's basically space Hitler. Witnesses his dad's friend die, his dad transforms in anger and snaps at him verbally and was presumed dead until he came back from space.
And then it gets worse in the future timeline.
nearly dying in the namek arc
The Piccolo training arc, ez.
Dude was kidnapped out of his sheltered life by an alien that hates his dad and dropped defenseless, hungry, and scared into a jungle with monsters and dinosaurs.
Watchin his dad die
At this point, being born has been his biggest trauma. What a shit life.
What a shit life.
Guts from berserk clears its not even a contest
Easily, but we're talking DB.
His childhood was so full of death and destruction, it's a wonder how he is even still stable as he is today in DBS.
as for the question, it's honestly too hard to pick which is the most traumatic.
Goku’s house doesn’t seem too big
So I don’t think is sooo sound proof, Gohan probably heard everything about Goten’s conception, and that would have damaged him worst than Cell…
Ginyu force.
Saiyan saga and future saga especially
Getting his neck broken at the age of 5
Namek.
No other words are necessary
Watching his dad being killed by his uncle who kidnapped him and then being trained in the mountains by piccolo who made him believe he’s totally alone there
Recoome, that’s all I need to say
Recoome snapping my goat’s neck was crazy
Walking in on his parents having sex
Probably getting his neck snapped by Recomme. That shit was brutal
Getting fucked up by raditz. Watching pic die by nappa.
The RoSat.
When I met him on a mall and told him
"Whoever move first, is gay."
Probably having a Green Alien as His father because His real dad is too busy Training i think thats why He wants to be a scholar and Not train Like Goku and neglect Pan and Videl in the process
I don't know if this counts, but Gohan seeing that he couldn't help in many situations, bc he wasn't training enough, could be a big hit.
If you imagine the worst of the worst could happen to your family and loved ones and if you just trained enough, you could stop the problems from happening, but you didnt train at all, bc you consciously decided to put the training aside. The manga and anime is only side eyeing it, but to me, this would probably make me go crazy.
And the first time he got kidnapped by Raddiz. Watching helplessly how his father and Piccolo get demolished and his father even gets killed in the end.
Honestly the fact that his so called uncle kidnaped him, beat up his dad and dad's best friend, then essentially ended up getting murdered along with his dad is pretty trauma inducing I'd assume. Not to mention, shortly after, the kid ended up basically being given to a "demon king" and forced to endure harsh training.
future timiline, and getting beaten up by recoome
BLUD WASN'T EVEN 4 YEARS OLD,GOT KIDNAPPED,THEN HIS DAS DIED AND THEN GOT KIDNAPPED AGAIN BY PICCOLO...WAS THROWN AT ROCKS,LEFT ALONE TO FEND FOR HIMSELF AND THEN WAS SENT TO A WAR AGAINST THE SAIYANS...THEN NAMEK AND THEN ANDROIDS THAT KILLED EVERYONE....
BLUDS WHOLE LIFE POST 3 YEARS OF AGE WAS JUST TRAUMA ON TOP OF TRAUMA💀
Exactly. I don’t know how people think Beast mode was an ass pull. He’s been through mind fuckery, AND hybrid Saiyan potential haes been hyped from the beginning of Z
Remember when his mom used to make him do his homework? That was pretty brutal
- Being the reason his father had to commit suicide.
- Being the reason his best friend had to commit suicide.
Other than Future time line...
Probably seeing his Dad die and have a basketball sized hole in his torso then instantly being kidnapped by a green alien and thrown on top of a mountain to with an apple for dinner.
Other than that, in Dragon Ball terms... none. He had bouts, struggles, and fights as did Goku at a young age.
The age of 5 , he got his neak snapped by a man 3 times his size!
Gohan VS Recoome
Being chichi's son...
He was kidnapped by his uncle.
His father was killed.
His father figure died because he froze when angry bald man tried to kill him.
He was beaten up by a gang of dancing space wrestlers doing weird poses and constantly mocking him.
His best friend got killed on different planet by space racist.
In his future timeline he was unceremoniously killed by 2 robots. After all of his friends and family were killed.
His father took a year out of his life in a day - try explaining that to scholarship.
His robot friend was killed right in front of him.
His father was killed because he didn't finish the job.
His father chose to stay dead rather than come back and be with family.
His girlfriend was beaten up by some steroid user right in front of him.
His entire family was killed by a pink guy when he was forced to wait for some old guy to do a dance move.
He was cancelled on twitter over using ableist remarks towards a pink guy.
He was absorbed by a pink guy.
He was killed by a pink guy in planet explosion because his father would rather save Hulk Hogan.
When his planet was destroyed his father figure died because some alien baby made a wish.
His robot friend was killed when fighting an evil green guy but this time he was red and big.
Did I miss any?
If not future Gohan, then the few times Vegeta beat the snot out of young Gohan.
Watching video get slapped around in the tourney. Like cmon that was hard to watch imagine being her dude sheeshhh.
almost dying
not gonna elaborate which time
Aside from all the shit Trunks timeline Gohan went through, probably tied between seeing his dad die like twice, and the entirety of the Saiyan/Frieza Saga
Gohan is like the only person on planet earth that has not experienced death. Literally everyone but him has died and been revived by the Dragonballs. Since he has never experienced this, everyone makes fun of him for it and thus his biggest trauma
He did die in the Buu saga though, when kid Buu destroyed earth.

Recoome breaking his neck and being freaky as shit
When he was forced by the gods to betray Pan and lock her in the time chamber.
Facing all his trauma in the time chamber related to letting his loved ones down and breaking past it while going SSJ
Either watching Raditz kill Goku and being forced to live in the wild by himself for 6 months, or watching Goku sacrifice himself for Gohan’s mistake after Goku had put all his faith in Gohan. Goku tried to alleviate some guilt and depression Gohan would have from that when he gave his message to him and gave him confidence for the FS Kamehameha but that probably still was insanely traumatic.

Ginyu force
Surviving
Probably watching Goku instant transmission with Cell knowing his arrogance killed his dad.
All of the Z series. He’s knocked around more than Krillin.
Watching Videl get her ass beat probably wasn’t helpful
Everything on Namek.
Worst trauma would be when freaza killed Krillen, Dende and zapped Piccolo.
broken neck on namek at the age of like 5
Witnessing Monaka beat up Goku.
I'd probably say watching Goku sacrifice himself to get rid of Cell because he went from being unable to kill Cell to being too arrogant to kill him.
Namek, the future, a deathmatch with a life form specifically created to be perfection in almost every way, buu saga, a tournament with your entire existence on the line, kinda a hard choice
Oh yeah don’t forget watching almost everyone you know die in front of you by getting brutalized by a bald alien that you just so happen to be related to, only a year after getting kidnapped by your space pirate uncle and getting trained to near death by a bald green alien, all while your at the ripe old age of 4-6 (I forgor which)
Not Enough.
Goku toss Cell the Senzu bean. Gohan been having nightmare constantly about that.
Probably his SATs
Peaking in his early teenage years
Recoome on Namek gets overlooked alot I feel like

him losing his pet dragon, wtf happened to it. i think it got eaten by goku
Idk maybe recoume (however you spell it) beating the ever living shit out of him on an alien planet as a 6 year old child. Shortly after guldo almost puts a log through his head in slow motion. Mean while two significantly stronger people are watching and laughing at him being beaten senseless
Didn’t he technically have his neck snapped by recoome?
For me nothing beats the battle against Reccoome. Dude like broke Gohan’s neck and he was like 5. At least to me it looks like one of the most physically challenging battles he went through.
Pounding the tuna.
Literally all of it, bro is so traumatized by all the death and violence that Piccolo’s horrible acting as a guard injuring pan made him jump from super sayian to his ultimate form. Piccolo almost dying literally pushed him from under blue to reach a level where he’s on par with Goku’s level of MUI. That’s insane levels of fight or flight
Living with Chi-Chi post Cell, imagine her raging exponentially amplified during pregnancy

Reccome breaking bro neck at the age of like 5
Gohan has been through a lot and I under why he hates violence becuase since he was baby bro was fighting for his life. He literally went ss2 at the ripe age of 9 or 10 naw I get it. And if you count the monies the guy had to also fight broly at the age of 9/10 truly tragic

The whole future timeline.
And watching his dad sacrifice himself because of Gohan's own deeds
Piccolo Almost Death
Oh f… i forgot his name and now I forever will not be able to find out…
Starting at age 4 all the way to everything on Namek was pretty traumatizing.
Getting his ass whooped by everyone and damn near dying has definitely given him trauma but lately hes gotten stronger, can't get your ass whooped if you're stronger than your opponent so I feel he's gotten through that imo
You killed my daddeh sale.
If we're only counting present timeline Gohan, it's definitely having to fight the Ginyu Force when he was like 8 years old. Recoome legitimately broke his neck with one kick, and that wasn't the end of the fight.
Future Gohan takes it easy if we count him. Watched his dad die and all his friends aside from Bulma and Trunks get slaughtered. The only thing he can do is try and repel the Androids who he can't become stronger than no matter how much he trains. And then he eventually loses his arm whilst trying to protect the only other hope the world has.
Yes!
That whole section between Raditz and Frieza and if we count Trunks' timeline, literally his entire life.
Being a nerd
Probably how due to his own ego his dad died and stayed dead for 7 years. That or maybe the broken neck from recoome, or being kidnapped after his father died, or watching all his friends die to nappa, or watching Frieza kill or almost kill everyone he knows, or watching a namekian village be slaughtered right in front of him (including children)

Did gohan have some kind of trauma based emotion block going on preventing him from transforming to super saiyan 2 during bojack unbound?
His erectile disfunction. Piccolo had to put in some overtime to help out with Pan.
People be talkin about the future timeline, everyone knows Mr. Fuqing Math-Tutor was the worst
Rule 34 fan art
haha he’s bald as fuck
Having Chi-Chi as a mother
Being born to Goku
