I loooooooove DA:O but haven’t played it for several years. I have an old PS3 tucked away somewhere. Is a used physical copy on PS3 my best option?
Edit: thanks everyone. I should have stated initially that I don’t have a PC. I found a used ultimate edition for PS3 and I’m picking it up Monday. I can’t wait. I played the hell out of this game waaaay back in 2009/2010 when it was new, then kind of forgot about it. It is definitely in my top three rpgs of all time.

I play the game on PC. The EA is a store like Steam. You can also get the Ultimate Edition in Steam.

Yeah, my PS3 still works and the disc does too. I play the DA series yearly. Getting it on disc would be the most cheapest option. See if you can also get the DLC installed too.
I also still use the disc but I dont think you can get The dlc on ps3 anymore
Maybe best thing to do is get the ultimate edition instead. It might be a bit pricey.. cos it's a rare copy. But the full experience of Origins is so worth it 😍

Came here to say this. I loved playing a lightly modded play thru (I think I got a mod that fixed quests and restored some content, and then a mod to give sword+shield skills to my arcane warrior lol) though this was....5 years ago?
Origins was one of my first if not my first proper RPG, and I’ve been… disappointed in other iterations (up until BG3, which was a breath of fresh air)—it was so nice to be able to boot up Origins after all these years and find it just as fun!
I had a lot of fun with BG3! Still struggling beating my first major boss--getting thru act 1 without wanting to restart and make a new character lol.
At least I could beat DAO a few times all the way thru on a few different characters lol

It still launches through steam for me after checking. I did buy the game through steam about a year ago so I'm not sure if anything's changed since then. It is still the case though that DA2 and Inquisition require the EA app as far as I know.
I play through steam so… no? Just played last week, have had the game on steam for at least 8 years and only recently started playing it again.
You can launch it, but you most likely would want to manually update the executable to avoid the numerous crashes.

I've beaten the game like 6 times and I just don't want to anymore but it really is one of the best games ever.
Kotor, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, DA:O... All of them were so amazing.

Oh yeah the pillars series is fantastic. Avowed is the new game in that universe as well so you’re gonna get a continuation of it after beating them when that game drops. I’ll also throw the Pathfinder games in, particularly the sequel called Wrath Of The Righteous. Both games have extra mechanics called kingdom management and crusade management, respectively. Both can be disabled with no effects on the story, it’s just padding. Check them out. Pillars 1 was my all time favorite until I played wrath of the righteous
GOG on PC?
Ultimate Edition on 360/PS3 is just fine, as long as it's the US version, apparently the EU version doesn't have return to ostagar which is some bullshit.

Just started playing on the deck. Configuring my controls and so far it’s been awesome.
You can usually get it for under $10 during a steam sale. Otherwise, it's an old 360/ps3 disk.
I don't know how the game does on a console, but I had to install a pair of mods into my game to keep it from crashing in Denerim and certain cutscenes. Just be aware of that should you decide to explore the PC version.
Like others said, get it on steam or EA for pc. However, be warned that it is not at all optimized for newer pc’s and may melt your gpu for absolutely no reason at all.
I actually just got this game on steam last month. So if you have an ok computer you can play it.
How did you get it to stop constantly crashing?
Idk never had the issue, but I only play an hour or 2 at a time.
One of three ways. Or you get a hard copy with an XBox or PS3, OR, it is available in Steam.
However. It is reccomended for a PC to install some fixes for memory leak.
I just played this the other day on my PS3, which looks good on my new TV. Still fun. I bought this used, lots of physical copies with all the DLC included for cheap.
If your only option is a PS3 I guess so -- and tbh It might be a more stable experience compared to PC.

Just buy the GOG version. It's better than the steam one and constantly on sale for only $5

You might have the same issues I did on start-up. If the game crashes in ostigar, try turning the graphics down. Sound also causes issues in that area. Be prepared for it to be a bit crashy.
Otherwise, Steam and EA both have it digitally.

Yeah the memory leaks in ostigar which causes crash you have use a fan patch it's how I was able to continue

PC is still the best go-to by far. The interface is better (that point-and-click works way better than "drag reticle using thumb stuck", and your spell/talent availability isn't limited by the number of controller buttons) and the modding scene is so huge that one can end up spending as much time playing community content as official content. There's fully-voiced original deleted material added back in, there's community patches for bugs that were never fixed on consoles, etc. If you have a PC that will play it, that's the way to go. It's available for cheap on EA Desktop, Steam or GOG, and is frequently on sale (at one point GOG had it on sale for $2.99).
I'm on a playthrough on my Series X and it's the best way to play IMO. 60 FPS.
PC is best but yeah an old PS3 with a hard copy of ultimate edition will work just fine
nah , I am playing it on my steam deck , I have the ultimate edition on steam , works great
