I've been going along for years thinking I had like 20 something pairs of shoes. I just counted them for fun, and I have 52. Is that excessive? I'm a 55-year-old man. 💪🏻

I only have two pairs because I have the irrational thought that keeping my old pair as a busted backup may be useful one day.

I got some new balance slides at smiths 11 years ago for 6 dollars and I’m still rocking them, they are my only shoes.
I've got about 10 pairs. I walk 15 to 20km per day and have 2 or 3 pairs that I wear when going on long walks otherwise the ones I would wear when going out in the evenings would get ruined too quickly. I don't want to wear a £300 pair of trainers out in 5 months.
If you don't wear them all then I'd say it's excessive
I will wear all of them at some point. I've worn all of them except one pair, at least once.

About a dozen on a regular basis. All the other pairs except one that are still in a box, I have worn at least once. The ones that aren't in my regular rotation have very specific uses.

No, i have a work paír, a daily pair, hiking boots and a pair of sandals. You need a lot less than you think.
If you don’t use them most of the time, I’d say downsize to what you actually use. I personally only have 5 pairs, counting my work shoes, but I’m poor af and in my 20’s. My parents probably have a crap ton of shoes since they’re close to your age.

I would say pairs. I would have a lot less but I’m a runner so I keep my running shoes when they are worn out. They can still be used, just not for running.
About the same, but I’m no fashionista. There’s a lot of needs for different shoes. Formal flats, formal heels, flat sandals, wedge sandals, casual sandals, dress sandals, flip flops galore, Sperry’s and Chucks out the yin yang, like half of my shoes, hikers, sneakers, Keds, Vans, pumps, loafers, boots, booties, and a pair of aqua shoes.
Some I have not worn for a year but I’ll still wear as needed for formal events. Others, like wedge sandals and really high heels I cannot wear anymore since I’m old and clumsy, but I loved them so much I cannot bear to give them up. I live in the Chucks and Sperry’s and there’s so many different colors and styles, yes I need them all.
They are organized in clear plastic shoe boxes on the top shelf of my closet. Purses are another story…………
Despite all this, I’m really not a fashionista. If I was I’d have over a hundred shoes. I love looking at them!
My neigbour has 80 pairs. Compared to her, you are fine. She is woman in early thirties. I am in the same democrafic as her, but have around 15. This includes sommer shoes/sandals, winter boots, hiking boots, water shoes, flat shoes for general wear, trainers and 2 pairs of high heeled shoes for special occasions and house slippers. And I think I have more shoes then I need.
What is accessive really depends on your wants and needs. Do you wear all of those shoes throught the year? If not it may be a bit too mich. If yes, then it works for you.

I have 5 pairs. And I’m a 42 y/o woman. So yeah, ten times that many seems excessive to me. BUT? If you love them, maybe that’s just your thing? No shame in having a collection of things m, almost everyone collects something.

I'm the exact opposite. I'm good with wearing shoes until I'm walking around in socks. I don't really like having lots of things in my possession, it's like the opposite of being a hoarder.

I have 9 pairs of black dress shoes 1 pair that has never been worn (purchased right before I retired) I have 7 pairs of brown dress shoes. I have two pair of cowboy boots and 3 pairs of Dr Martens. I had about 150 pairs and cut it down to about 90 pairs. I donated them to women’s shelters, so they will be enjoyed by others. There are about 10 very nice pairs that I could donate and never know they were gone. I have about 3 pairs that really need to go, as they have seen better days. I also have about 3 pairs which have never fit well, and I really don’t need to keep them around - someone else might like them.

I'm not sure how many I have (however it's not close to that), but in the long run, I only wear two pairs of shoes consistently. I have a hell of a time finding shoes that are both comfortable for me (my feet suck) and that I like (again, my feet suck), so I end up not wanting to bother with it much.
Is it excessive? Are you rotating through them often enough? Then no. If you're not, maybe get rid of what you don't need anymore.

I don't know how many I have but it's a lot! Could be over 60 but I love having options and dressing differently and I have the space for it. My fiance also has a lot of shoes too, probably around 30. They have their designated area and look nice so we don't have stress from shoes everywhere. We turned a bedroom in our house into a large walk-in closet.
Definitely not excessive. I estimate myself to have approx 300 pairs of shoes (and yes, I wear them!). It may be fewer now as I’ve donated some to charity but, either way, 52 seems perfectly reasonable to me!

Somewhat excessive yes, but that doesn't matter. You own the shoes. If having the 52 is useful or gives you joy then keep them. Otherwise donate or sell some

I work at adidas and, before ever joining, already had 21 pairs of shoes. it has now reached 30. ive only been working here for 4 months.
I mean, if you like collecting them and can afford it, then there's no issue. I have like 8 pairs of sneakers for running or daily wear along with all my other various types of shoes, and I'm always in the market for more if one catches my eye.
It would be like someone asking if their binder of Pokémon or baseball cards was too much. You can never have too many collectible items if it's what you're into and not crippling yourself financially or completely filling every space in your house with it.

Nope I have two pairs of boots for the winter one flat pair and one heeled shoes one pair of trainers and two sandals one for everyday and one for dressing up.Im a fifty year old lady used to buy shoes etc to match outfits but downsized to a smaller house and decided to do a declutter of shoes and clothes ended up selling stuff I'd bought and not worn plus donated stuff I won't wear again.I now only buy clothing and shoes to replace any which are broken and now have less to tidy plus have more money.

I have 4. My everyday shoes, winter shoes, workout shoes, shoes from my suit I think most of my shoes last for 2 to 3 years at least every day that is the rest of my suit shoes have lasted for nine years.
I have summer shoes, winter boots, bigger winter boots, hiking shoes, hiking boots and snowboard boots. I regard that as “too many shoes”.

That's a lot of shoes. I'm in same age group and have maybe 20, including sandals, winter boots and lawn work. But...guys' shoes don't wear out and are less likely to go out of style, so it's hard to justify throwing them out when a new pair arrives. If you have space and like them, keep 'em.
I think I have like 6 pairs but they all serve very different purposes so I only really wear one on a daily basis. I have no idea where I would put anywhere upwards of 10 shoes
