This game really surprised me. I thought it would be just another typical 'dark' and 'hardcore' game like many others, but I was wrong. It's very challenging with really fun (and frustrating) gameplay loop. I'm still terrible at the game, I just hope the hype continues and the game grows even more. My friends said that the hype won't last, and they're probably right because the game isn't for everyone. i just hope that the number of players dont drop to much, excited to see the future of the game.
After 12 hours of playtime , I bought the legendary version.
I like the ideia of wipes, playing tarkov for 2 years and its a really nice mechanic to keep the game interesting
Bunch of Tarkov players have found their way to this beautiful game, my buddies and me included.
Tarkov player reporting in🫡
I’m a rare the cycle player that found this game IFYKYK
I played the cycle because i dont like tarkov and DaD wasnt around and we still didnt know if EA was even happening with the nexon lawsuit.
Game was mid but scratched the itch
Yes it did scratch the itch it pales in comparison to DaD tho
DaD came back with the milk. 🥲
EA being something other than Electronic Sharts?
"Early access" - basically the current "play before release" common on Steam (DnD got kicked out of Steam for a whole year).
Holy the cycle frontier, my friend was a pretty popular streamer for that game and he still gets chats daily asking about it lmao
I was just joking with my buddy about how long it took Tarkov to improve their quest UI vs IronMace w/ the quest log on one page and you can turn in items from there!
I love this. There was a lot of complaints here for a long time until the big release. I'm glad to see valid comparisons.
The Devs aren't perfect, but they are certainly passionate and trying to do it right!
i was a tarkov player but famtasy is more my style personally so i'm really enjoying it
Precisely!
I mean your guys leader screwed you with that newer package. I havent looked into it since has that stuff gotten better in the tarkov universe?
Oh Nikita can fuck off into the sun. Not my leader. I only play the PVE mode with my buddies because that's all they play, but I don't touch the game solo.
Edit: To actually answer your question, they capitulated a bunch of times with pricing, which got me back to the PVE mode. Cheaters are too rampant to ever touch the normal mode again. Not sure on the overall state/mood though.
God forbid people play more than one game.
Go back to your hole
This game tends to get kind of rough towards the ends of wipes, most lobbies have people with absolutely insane gear. But being on steam will definitely help with that this wipe
I’ve 10 hours in and I’m head over heals for this game. I can’t really afford it so I can’t really support them by getting the legendary version so I just gave them a good review to support them that way instead It’s really fun tho I love it, already remade like 6 characters to try them out abd it’s fun, might try a new one next
Damn. Hopefully you can save up for it amd start keeping your characters! It really is a worthwhile purchase in my eyes!!
I don t like wipes that is the only thing stoping me from buying full game, im lvl 61 now
Yeah I dipped out on Tarkov awhile back. Tried to play hunt, and while the gameplay is amazing in hunt (except for trading) it mainly boiled down to either "get the bounty" or "hunt the lobby down". At least in DaD, there are quests or bosses to kill. Builds and match-ups are what made me like this game. And trading is a lot harder to do in this game
I feel this same here can’t wait for arenas tho I favor pvp and removing circle made it a bit more casual
I've been playing since Aug 2023, and DaD is still the game I'm most excited to play. welcome to the fam & hope to see you around!!
You’d be surprised at how many people want to play extraction games but don’t wanna play with guns. Also these devs are true gamers and have been PUMPING out updates and doing everything in their power to get this game out and in a good condition. I’ve been playing since the second playtest and have taken breaks in between updates but every time I come back it feels so good. This game ain’t going anywhere and the hype hasn’t even really begun
Ya, agree with the hype and steady path forward!
And ya, a great game where you can take a break and just enjoy more stuff later. I haven't taken many breaks, haha.
And ya, 100%, guns are very okay, but they have nothing on high fantasy!
I don't want to play extraction with guns. That sounds awful. This game is hard enough.
Until crossbows/bows are fixed we're still basically playing a BR with guns.
It’s a BR with bows lol
I really liked scavengers when it was in beta(pvpve extraction with 3rdperson gunfights with melee and abilities mixed in) then they changed way to many things and it kinda flopped on release, looked it up and it was taken off steam. 1 thing I got over quickly was the idea of a single extraction ship that everyone had to fight over. I really enjoy the multiple options to leave or delve further in DaD.
Yeah the feature increases are really impressive. They're chugging along at a pace some might call... Buggy.
The only time I took a break was towards the end of last wipe. HR was crawling with cracked out warlocks and was getting boring. The steam drop really brought some life into the game
True, only knew about the game when released on steam
I've racked up over 1400 hours since the early access release thats like a part time job over the year 1/2 or so this games been out. This game is like crack in digital format
People have been doomsaying this game since the start of EA. If it can survive the disaster that was multiclassing, it can survive anything. Game's not going anywhere.
Welcome to the big leagues!
Tbh i think theres enough players to keep the gameplay interesting. Itll only become bad if the metas really start to take over.
Which will happen in around 3 more weeks.
Yup lmao. We will see tho
Only a week in myself but fully addicted. I think what will hold my attention most is solos, duos, and trios all have a different learning curve so it keeps things interesting depending on which I'm playing.
I've played 80 hours so far as ftp, gonna be buying legendary as soon as I have the funds to spare.
The playerbase may die down a bit, but it has had a very solid following for years and the game experience is pretty unique.
Don't worry about not finding matches.
You're a fricken hero my friend! A leader and a confidante! May you escape with treasures enough to make one eyed willy jealous!
Most people here have been playing for 10+ months, and we've stuck around through absolutely garbage states of the game
The game isn't going anywhere even if "hype" dies down, ironmace makes a lot of mistakes but they do eventually make great improvements to the game and they'll keep doing it and we'll keep playing it
I personally play for the first 2 months of each wipe, and take a break the last month, it keeps things pretty fresh for me
So wipe happen every 3 months? when was the last wipe?
Yes generally, sometimes a few additional weeks at the end
This month i think was the new wipe.
We're about 2 weeks into this wipe, new round of quests should be today or tomorrow.
Good, it’s a worthwhile game and a worthy developer to support
there was a rock solid group of core players to the end of each wipe on an unknown launcher at a 35 dollar pricepoint no demo.
i dont think you need to worry about "the hype" dying anytime soon. epic/steam launch with steadily rising numbers proves this even more.
Such a brilliantly made game
the gameplay loop is pretty rudimentary but with 9 classes to experiment it with, i feel like most people can pick it up and find something they like about it
This phase has been so good honestly. I feel it's a little easy to get gold right now. But I don't know if that's because I reliably escape most rounds. So it must mean if it's fast for me it must be decent as a learning player. I've also haven't felt like I've been outplayed by a class than the player for a long time too. Before it was land mine rogues and one shotting wizards. I feel a little bad for fighters right now. It's odd they need to play slayer to stay relevant in solo. They need to buff sprint or reduce the move speed penalty on their weapons.
I think a major thing missing is a proper tutorial, not one for fighting monsters or anything but basic stuff. Saw a post of someone not knowing why they get killed by bugs "randomly", they didn't even know how to extract.
Stuff like reviving team mates, how extracts open late into the game, what red extracts are, how merchants work.
Eh ... been hooked coming on a year. On and off, but honestly, mostly on. I hit over 1000 hours, and I still can't get enough.
The hype is fairly real, and hopefully the game keeps growing, and content is somewhat steady.
Welcome to the game, glad you bought it!
I did the same, because I had to see how the other classes worked.
I did same thing, about 60 hours in now and anytime I get bored i either take quick break, swap characters, or go do duos or trios to make it more fresh
Player count will dip, but even at its worst you could always find a game... though hr was just gamble encounters with legendary geared streamers by the end of the wipe lol
There are wipes? Like will I loose the gear I've stashed? I'm mostly green gear and blue gear on my guys but I've been trying to get 4 or so kits for each of my classes.
Yep everything you have beside character fame level is wiped every 3 months or so, glad I researched before buying it, would be feeling like a real idiot now if I didnt.
Having seasons probably adds new content and a time for when it can drop. Sometimes I like how Fortnite has seasons cuz then you can look forward to new content.
Fame isn't the only thing that stays through wipes, but yes, levels, gear, and stashes are lost. When I found out about wipes, I thought I'd quit after the first wipe. Turns out, they're great 😅 All 3 wipes I've been through made me more excited to play, instead of less
I just started 8 hours ago. I got a rogue to level 10. I've seen maybe 4 other players
Lmfao 12 hours that’s it? Bro your gonna hate your own guts in about 400
Can't stop won't stop playingÂ
the game has plenty of replay ability you won't regret the purchase.
I played on the very first play tests and still played (on and off) right up until this recent update and steam release pretty much the start of every wipe until i either achieved my goals or player count dropped off to a point it got a bit stale with the meta or a patch i didn't quit like.
firstly i can say with confidence this game will not die, granted players may come and go but with the accessibility now it will hold a more than healthy player base im sure, we kept the game alive during the dark times with barely any accessibility or spotlight, we had faith and hope , we knew the light at the end of the tunnel was imminent and here we are!!
even with all the hoops we (OG players and of course devs) had to jump through to play this game and keep playing this game, we have built a strong and passionate core community of DnD players who i know the vast majority cannot be more excited as of right now with the current state of the game.
now im sure with this new wave of gamers we will aqcuire more strong and passionate community members who will spread the message this game is good and not only good but here to stay.
LONG LIVE DND
This is the way
I will say one thing, the devs are extremely passionate about this game. So is the player base. You will see drops in player count always, but even when the game had to be downloaded through a torrent..which is almost unheard of. People still played, the devs are constantly updating and listening to the player base.
It's a nice change of pace if you're used to playing AAA titles.
Tarkov player here. I started playing this game recently and have been having a blast. Especially now that I found a Warlock build that is fun to play. I'm definitely considering paying for Legendary.
Honestly I think this game has a good chance to survive, it has a lot of dedicated veterans who really love the game and IM.
IM also kicks ass as a dev team always listening to the community and making changes so quick one of the more passionate teams I’ve seen in gaming.
Also the game is quite unique, no other game I’ve played is really similar and I haven’t seen any games seriously try to compete w/ Dark and Darker.
I don’t think it’ll be a 250k+ player game (I hope it one day is) but I do think it’ll do very well for itself a hold a strong player base
Man you should have seen the pre EA days. Just doomers everywhere because the player count got to like 2K maybe? But they would still play it religiously and complain for days on reddit acting like the drvs were completely incompetent in making the game. Now there were fair criticisms and I stopped playing when they had multiclassing but I never wanted the game to die like most people did and I've been playing it again since the stream release and updates and have been loving it again
I feel like people probably said the same thing about tarkov when it was getting started and look at it now. I think the game has a bright future
It's actually ironic you say that because if there was no wipe eventually you will hit a wall and you will have "no real goals to see get achieved over time." The whole point of the wipe is to maintain fresh progression, give a perfect milestone for big new updates and changes to the game, and periodically reset the power imbalance of players. By your standards you should love the wipe
I feel thats an issue deep rooted in your psyche because these are literally just pixels bro
U'll change ur mind if you play a full wipe
Early wipe is the most fun
Leaderboards/rank give the cross wipe progression, I've gotten demigod both seasons so far to collect all the cosmetics
I've already got all the stash tabs and 14k gold and I don't even play a lot, the only progression left for me is quests (but I've done all the currently available ones) and the demigod grind. Gold and items are pretty meaningless after awhile
The skills and knowledgge that you as a player acquire is what should drive you. On wipe day you'll be far ahead of most people when you are just better.
I had the same feeling when I started playing a couple years back, but have come to really enjoy the wipe system. + your leaderboard progression from high roller sticks with your account via permanent rewards you can claim the following wipe
Wipes are necessary for an extraction based game
because so much gold is brought into the game through the collector, wipes are necessary almost entirely due to market inflation.
not to mention the power creep/economy balancing issues this would cause. OSRS/Eve are the only other games that can really pull off market/"gear" permanence and both studios have multiple employees dedicated to the in game eco.
You’re in for a rude awakening when after 1 wipe you play the new wipe for a week maybe 2 then drop it just like any long term player
downvoted due to too much truth said
Agreed theres just not enough variety of skill expression leading to a low skill ceiling but very large distinctive gear ceiling and gap. That is a bad combo for player agency as if you dont play meta gear with meta builds the skill ceiling of the game is to low to provide meaningful outplay potential.
I've been playing on and off since the play test in 2022. Game holds up over time and each new wipe/update is exciting
