Any tips for removing this black spray paint on my patio? I’ve just tried letting white spirit soak and pressure washing off but it’s not doing too much
And white grout.
Give brick acid a go or get some graffiti remover.
Next time, put some paper down first
It was the Mrs while I was at work!
A story as old as time.
Hi, it's me, I'm the problem...
It's me, Hi, I'm problem, it's me!
I am Spartacus!
Hi it’s me, I’m the problem, it’s me, it’s me!
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beeeeast
Keep it.
This way if you do anything stupid you can point at that mess.
I like that.
Wife: ‘you left a sock on the bathroom floor’
You: ‘you ruined the f***ing patio’
PMSL 😂
This won’t work. We all know that leaving a sock on the bathroom floor is a much more serious offence. We also know that within a week the black paint will become OP’s fault because it was his job to clean it up and he still hasn’t done it.
Why are woman like this man
This whole thread is so exist omg sort yourself out lads.
This made me laugh so hard 😂😂😂
Yeah infact, I'd bang a couple clear coats to seal it.
I'd take a photo and print on some business cards. Keep a few in the wallet, in the glovebox, bedside table... if anything happens it's like a get out of jail free card.
He should call up the radio station she listens to, request "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones and dedicates it to her.
Hahaha yes!!
Top answer:: well worth my upvote 💯👍
I am not sure there is a resolution at this point. Might be best to get rid and start again. Plenty more women out there
Brick acid won't do anything apart from clean the areas with no paint
With any luck, the paint won't be a perfect coat and allow some through. I'd give it a go
And my wife always asked. Do you really need those cardboard pieces in the garage? Hahah
I use them to paint, get underneath the car. For the no space it takes up, well worth saving a few of the bigger cardboard pieces for stuff like this.
What was she thinking?!
Thing about Arsenal is they always try and walk it in
Did you see that ludicrous display last noite
Mind owya gow
Maybe a trip up to Arsenal would be a good way to say sorry
She was thinking “He won’t smell my boyfriend’s aftershave in our bedroom if I spray paint the patio.”
She was thinking that any mess would be someone else's problem.
Get her to sort it then.
She'd only fuck it up more
As a wife I concur 🙈😂 Many times I have tried to circumvent having to tell my husband I've done something I probably shouldn't have attempted. I only have about a 50% success rate 🤣
This is the answer.
This is the way
Next photo I want to see is a white chalk line body shape
When OP finds nothing will shift the paint and finally decides the only solution is to turn the slabs over - that's when the white outline is discovered ....
Got the same gift 2y ago.. Sun is slowly doing its job as it was a wood finish she splashed..
Pick up the slabs and flip them over. /s
😂😂😂 , I came to say your missus must be going mental 😂😂😂😂
<Some Reddit joke about also choosing your Mrs while you were at work>
You may want the divorce
Is... Is she OK?
Upvote for graffiti remover.
Don't use brick acid on soft porous stone like sandstone. Solvent based graffiti remover is your best bet.
Those aren’t sandstone slabs, they’re concrete
Acetone
Or Methylethylkeytone, Tricloroethane, Carbontetracloride, whatever you have in your collection of "Nasty but effective solvents that probably cause cancer in California".
All men with such wives should have a solvent stash in a flameproof cupboard in the back of the garage, makes minor crafting accidents less of an issue, adding lockers for acids, bases, metals and organic peroxides is optional but sometimes useful. .
Travis Perkins do a graffiti remover spray. It dissolves everything, then just wash off with water.
NO! Whatever you do, do not use that stuff.
He just said it dissolves EVERYTHING.
~Thanks, the planet.
Those are the cheapest slabs in the world, so if all else fails, you can replace them for a few quid.
Do you know what they are called? I have them in my garden and could do with replacing a few broken ones
Bradstone Peak Textured Grey/Natural/Sand etc
Riven faced concrete slabs
There's a ton of different brands but they're all the same
Don’t think they have a name ‘generic textured concrete slabs’ maybe?
Riven Buff
Might not even need to spend that. People are often giving these types of slabs away on Facebook marketplace
Tru dat. I was begging people to take mine last year.
Or turn them over
They don't look nice on the bottom, for the price just replace
or spray the rest of them black
They have a different pattern in the base.
I’ve got some of these, if you pressure wash them on a high enough setting it literally blasts the top layer off them. Could be a “solution” for OP.
Certainly sounds more fun than my suggestion of schlubbing down to Wickes’ and hauling back 80kg of concrete, then laying it.
Better plan: get the Mrs to do the pressure washing in a bikini while you sit there watching with a beer.
I think all else is going to fail. May as well go for the replacement slabs straight off and save a lot of time, effort and money.
Might even be able to grab some off any neighbors redoing their gardens.
If he's quick, he might not even need to wait till then.
Thanks for all of the advice! I’ve decided the best option is to replace the Mrs
The stone is porous it isn't just on the surface, imagine a buttered slice of toast you're trying to take the butter off. You can't just rinse it, it has sunk into the pores.
You'll need to use something that eats it out like an acid or brush or sand it down.
Not only is this a brilliant analogy, I also want hot buttered toast now.
And a cup of tea
Graffiti removal spray
100% Acetone. Buy a big bottle then go and steal all your wife's cotton pads from the bathroom. Lay them on the slabs, cover generously in acetone then cover with tinfoil. Leave 30 minutes then pressure wash. Works on gel polish, will work on that.
Why would you do it directly on the patio in the first place?? The stuff they use to remove graffiti should work.
I agree completely; it was the Mrs when I was at work, spray painting photo frames
did the photo frames at least come out well?
Yes, but the pictures have strangely disappeared..
Spraying black outside on a patio, I doubt they came out well.
My wife and mil did this last year. Thankfully they did it on the grass and not the concrete. Took me weeks to mow it out and it finally disappeared at the end of the summer. If she had done this on the driveway or patio I would have been really pissed. I hope the frames look nice at least.
There you are then. Just mow it out.
Worked for me!!
It's just that kind of no help comment that's ruining Reddit. What a useless post.
You'll never get a mower in there. Use a strimmer.
Yeah, sorry m8 what was I thinking. Def a strimmer.
How did she not realise after the first spray? What made her carry on? So many questions here!
LOL, You have never screwed up, I have so many times. Put an old sheet down & sprayed my bike frame, Looked brill, till I went for a piss, net curtains were black. Washed them but sill black, mom arrived home, asked me what I had done (she did not know I had a motor bike at 15 yo) Told her, just shook her head. Dad was in fits of laughter, then asked where I had got the spray paint, Your paint was all I said, he was still laughing days later, asking if I was going to be a spray painter. 5 th floor flat, do not ask how I got it up there. LOL
I am in absolute awe of your retarded kid skills. Spray painting a motorbike in a 5th floor flat is… just…wild.
Brick acid may do the trick
Go back in time and put cardboard down
Sorry paint these days is usually acrylic, use methylated spirits or ethanol, soak and place a rag on top to limit evaporation. 10/15 mins and get scrubbing. Repeat until it's gone.
Isopropanol will also work and is less toxic. Leave for 10 15 mins soaking and it will peel. Only if it is acrylic.
Spray paint it yellow
You're going to have to try different things but if that stone is porous, that paint is deep in the stone.
First, brick acid won't do shit, other than eat away at the stone. Use concentrated sulphuric, 98% stuff, it's sold as drain cleaner. That won't eat the stone as much as brick acid.
First things first, my go to is always unleaded petrol, there's so much random shit in unleaded petrol that one ingredient has to be a suitable solvent.
If petrol and acid don't work, the last option is to use a solution of potassium permanganate, which you can buy from some chemist shops, or hydrogen peroxide. Oxidising the paint will cause it to decompose in to something that can be absorbed out of the stone. But in all honesty, I think that's fucked. Try the petrol and see how you get on.
Acetone or paint thinners
Second this. Paint doesn’t look like white spirit base, so proper cellulose thinners or acetone (nail polish remover) and wire scrubber would be my shout. Wear gloves.
That'll be ingrained onto the slabs you'll be lucky if you get that off at all so before you go buying different cleaning products it might be cheaper to replace the slabs they're no expensive slabs anyway.
Graffiti removers products tend to be vastly more powerful than whites spirit. Not cheap but works
That’s art that is.
Brake cleaner. The general rule is; if brake cleaner can’t remove it, nothing can.
About 5 years worth of UK winters should just about do it
3 years of Scottish winters did it for me. I was the dimwit who did it.
Turn the slabs over
Why is it, when I break something I fix it, when my wife breaks something, I fix it.
Plus you get told for taking time to fix it. When she could just have called someone to fix it faster (partially on your dime of course)
Limonen. Citrus degreaser. I use to sell it in an autopart store. https://www.amazon.ca/MG-Chemicals-D-Limonene-Industrial-Container/dp/B071R3Z8BL/ref=asc_df_B071R3Z8BL/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292993790068&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17021366409100737468&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000328&hvtargid=pla-349782215649&psc=1&mcid=69a1116d9ee735868f312facf452ebc0
I used cemelex on mine and it got paint and dirt right off. I literally poured it on and it fizzed instantly and removed everything.
Ahh a Warhammer fan I see!
Lol i scrolled down to see if anyone thought the same
They are only a few quid just replace
Just google concrete riven slabs. £4.97 each
Graffiti remover from Halfords should do the job.
Holy shit!
Leave it like that, so that whoever did it, thinks twice about it next time
WD40
Paint the rest of the patio black
Paint stripper off amazon followed by a pressure wash
Had a few tins delivered the other day and its pretty nuclear
Stupidity plus
Cardboard…. Oh wait, you’re supposed to put that down first… never mind me.
Turn them over?
Flags are often plain on the other side.
This only works when you spill a drink on the sofa :)
They're already neon pink on the other side.
Cheaper to replace the £2.50 slabs than buy graffiti remover
Need at least 7 slabs. 7 slabs at £2.50 is £17.50. Graffiti remover from toolstation is £13. So not cheaper at all.
Plus Labour of replacing them vs cleaning
Getting to the merchants, etc.
As others have suggested, probably better to just replace the slabs. At least you know that way the problem has been rectified straight away.
Worth trying the pressure washer on it
Nail varnish remover and a toothbrush, small areas
Let it dry and scrub with paint thinners
Ctec peel tec
You want some hypochlorite https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184264121599?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=W54fa7fKQFC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=BbvxqdSISvq&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY it’s good shit
Just use thinners
Paint your slabs
I know Nitro Mors isn't what it used to be, but have you tried it?
I remember about 30 odd years ago when I was about 10 me and my cousin who was a couple of years older were using nitro mors on old wooden window frames to remove the old paint and got bored and started to flick and dab the nitro mors onto each other in some kind of sick tig game...... That was painful but at the time fun......oh the good old days!!!!!!!
Spray paint your patio black. Seriously.
Nail polish remover just have to buy a few bottles
Acid. There's even brick acid. Remember goggles and gloves
If they're not cemented, it'll be easier to flip them over lol
Pink stuff
Jenolite paint remover?
Nitro mors, paint brush jet wash
just flip them over and wash the other side
the amount of time effort and solvents won't equate to the price of just replacing the slabs with new ones
Solvents
Try cellulose thinners. It'll probably need to soak for a while.
Industrial gun wash or xylene
Frame it and sell it as a Banksy
What paint was it, if it isn’t coming off with a pressure washer? Was it like car spraypaint or something?
Why not try some yellow spray paint?
Isn’t sodium hypochlorite the go to for patio cleaning?
Turn the paving slabs over
Buy yellow spray paint and spray over it
Probably have better luck with an abrasive like sandpaper
Grinder and some sanding discs will take it off. Will likely fuck up the flags as well but might get away with it with a light touch
Your wife's nail polish remover.
I’m yeah change the tiles lol
Which idiot did the spraying get him/ her to pay to have them replaced
Try a bit of isoprop on it
Brick acid will work
Nitromors?
Sand paper?
That's looking fucking sweet to be honest, like a 1970s Trioh tabletop, abstract, geometric, lot's of warm tones and sharp scratchy lines. Proper Scandi cool and an era which is becoming increasingly in vogue. Love the boost in contrast from it being wet also.
I would do this to all the flags, then put some hardwearing clearcoat on top.
Cellulose thinners and a steel wire brush. Your gonna need oceans of the stuff and a organic vapour mask or you'll knock yourself out.
Alternatively just get it grit blasted.
Methylated spirits will remove it easily
Paint it in other colours of the same type of paint.
Something organic, like it flows with the garden, bring the garden on to your patio, so it’s like you’re walking on flowers!!!
Or maybe something less pretentious bollocks.
Not a chemist, but maybe caustic soda? It's not advised for acrylic surfaces so maybe it might work.
Post it online as a Banksy. It will be gone by morning.
At least it didn't go all over the French doors or the wall!
I've heard horror stories of people spraying their fences with paint only for the neighbour to find their car is covered in paint drops.
Thinners... job done!!
Try virsol soaked on a rag, it’s a lemon de-greaser, I use it to clean spray tips that have been used for two part and expoxy can’t see why it wouldn’t soften it enough to come up with a stiff brush and elbow grease
Your mrs is an idiot
Someone was keen to paint their space marines!
Welder's anti-spatter spray is a great thinning compound. Might need a bit of a scrub, a soft-medium wire brush would be ideal.
Swarfega
Fill the others with similar doesn’t look that bad
Spray them all black
Just spray the rest black lol
Terps
USE MEK. it is very strong and should not hurt the stone.
Buy a big outdoor door mat!
Get a grinder on it, job done!
Frame it and claim it was Banksy.
you need a really strong pressure washer
Maybe you could flip the slabs over if they have pattern on other side?
Synthetic thinners .
Flip them over and it never happened👍
Time to spray paint the whole patio black.
