Received a letter in mail that my insurance won’t be renewed as I had a speeding violation.its a speeding violation not a DUI . This was my first ever speeding ticket and never gotten anything before or after this incident. Also no other tickets of any sort. It says I have to find a new insurance. Did this happen to anyone?
South Florida is the fraud capital of the world; It figures.
I’ve never heard that before- what kinds of stuff happen in south Florida?
They will call an overnight call center, get coverage, that same night get into an “accident”, the doctors (part of the ring) submit massive bills and do no work because there was no accident, profit.
Anytime I've been in an accident, they send an insurance adjuster to view the damaged or ask for pics. It's a pretty simple solution.
They acquire a banged up car either used or at the junkyard. The lengths these guys go to is pretty incredible. For a long time the insurance company I worked for disallowed south Florida call center and internet binds entirely (you had to go through an agent during the day who made you come by with the car).
Fun story, I totalled a car as a minor. It wasn’t a DUI accident but the car was insanely fucked up/caught fire and my dad coordinated with the insurance company to donate the car to a local high school for their anti-drinking and driving campaign that they held every year around prom season.
So they towed the car onto the grass next to the front entrance of the high school and had a bunch of yard signs about driving sober and tried to play like someone had died in the accident. Anyway, someone came by in the dead of night and somehow stole the car, and tried to use it to commit insurance fraud in Daytona Beach.
no accident, profit, go to federal prison for insurance fraud.
Had some guy jump on the hood of my car at a Bank ATM trying to get me to pay him. I didn't speak Español well at the time, and I didn't know what he was screaming at me until the cops got there. I didn't know it at the time but a USPS delivery driver who has seen this scam before waited until the police arrived and let us both know what he saw (guy waiting in the hedges for me to move my car forward). Even though I had an independent witness, he sued and got $5,000 from my insurance. Dude should have gone to jail
my blood pressure just spiked hearing your story.
And that’s another reason I have dash cams
The kind of stuff you’d expect in south Florida.
What happens in South Florida….stays in…wait no, always appears on Reddit
It's been a hotbed of insurance fraud for decades. Home to 'Nub City':
That is not South Florida.
Give global warming a few years and it will be.
That’s not South Florida however.
All the shananigans that happens in south america but now with a gringo twist 😆
My boiii pillboi lives there and gets into all sorts of shenanigans
Tampa would like a word
Glendale, CA is probably runner up
Insurance fraud, at least.
Is that why so many crypto conventions happen there?
The unofficial 'Welcome to Florida' sign is a lawyer billboard
You gotta go to Vegas
local vouch they're pretty absurd here
Anidjar & Levine, P.A.
I called them a week ago for a quote and they confirmed that they won’t be covering anyone with “bad records” from the last 3 years. They didn’t say what that includes but from the looks of your notice, they’re getting much stricter.
I got divorced and my policy went up by $200 per 6 months. We both had perfect records but he was in his mid-20s. I assumed he’d be more expensive to insure. It was weird.
Just being married lowers your car insurance. My wife and I shared car insurance before marriage and our premiums went down a couple hundred bucks literally just for getting married.
Well I guess I better find a new husband then
This country really really shits on single people. In almost every way possible, lmao.
It’s just the statistics. People with a spouse in the car drive more carefully. Like if I’m driving my wife around I have to be a lot more gentle on the acceleration because she hates fast acceleration or harsh braking. Sure a single person might drive like a grandma but overall they’re a lot less likely to do that. People with stereotypically family cars also pay less insurance. So if you wanna drive a minivan everywhere you’d still lower your insurance rates. But do you actually wanna drive a minivan everywhere? 😂
Sounds like CEO blew all their money on gambling and coke and needs to recoupe the losses 😂😂😂 what kind of insurance company is this???
They denied me for a not at fault accident.
Same. Someone rear ended me, they were at 100% fault, yet Costco denied me insurance. So lame.
Yep, same thing here! What was I supposed to do, move?🤣
Amica does the same thing, need a totally clean record
They denied me when I was shopping around earlier this year. My only claim was to get a rock chip filled in my windshield (thanks for covering that $50 GEICO), but that was enough for them to pass on me.
Same in Texas, its supposed to be a "perk" of insurance, but they treat it like a claim at renewal
As someone who works in insurance, this is almost assuredly a carrier getting out of the personal auto market or only taking completely clean MVR (motor vehicle records) drivers. Basically they don’t really want personal auto coverage.
You have time, hop online and start getting quotes from the normal carriers. You’ll probably get cheaper rates anyway if your current carrier is getting off policies so quickly.
They just rejected my friends who are in their 30s with clean driving records for auto and home insurance (in NV). I wondered what that was about. Your explanation makes sense thanks
NV is notorious for insurance fraud and a litigious environment, so Im not surprised carriers don’t want to insure people in NV.
Everywhere is supposedly a mecca for insurance fraud according to the...wait for it... insurance companies.
Yet they only turn over the data sets after they've culled/redacted/"summated" them and the court filings alone are not an accurate depiction.
Insurance companies make up whatever they want. Some won't insure Kias or Hyundai's that aren't even part of the "easily stolen" years because they're in a high theft area. But that high theft area is over an hour away and the actual city of residence has virtually no auto theft.
Their data sucks or they just don't care and do what they want.
Same happened to me in WI.
I just signed up for auto and home insurance through Costco and I live in Henderson/Vegas. Hope they don't cancel my shit
I also live in Henderson and have Costco insurance and am suppose to renew next month. Just added my wife too but hers doesn't expire for another few months. Hopefully i dont get cancelled
I just saved like 300$ every 6 months switching from Geico.
My dad lives out in Henderson and I think he ended up going with Liberty Mutual for the house/auto since it was a few hundred cheaper than the other companies.
They also rejected me for auto. I phoned them and they quoted via progressive with higher rates. No tickets in 10 + years. But have teen daughter.
2 years I had Geico drop me because I filed a claim that a car wash damaged my bumper. First claimed and they dropped me for something I wasn't at fault for.
For future reference, that claim should have been filled with the car wash's insurance.
Car wash refused to give me their insurance information. I immediately went inside and reported the damage to the employees, they showed me the sign of 'Were not responsible for damage ...' I said I don't care give me the insurance information. They would not provide it. I wasn't wanting to cause a scene, so I took as many pictures of damage, sign and employees so I can report it to Geico. Geico recommend I file a claim so I did, I recieved a little money for a unpainted bumper part that installed myself. 2 months later Geico terminated my policy, never late on payment.
In case this ever happens again (it probably won't, but just in case) you can usually find an official address for a business on their website. All 50 states require that businesses have a registered agent which accepts legal mail on their behalf. Draft up a letter requesting the insurance information. Make sure and specify that you need the information by a specific date or within a certain number of days. Deliver it to that registered agent address via certified mail so that someone has to actually sign for it.
Much more effective than asking employees for information!
Would like to add to this great advise. As some one who had to do it before and deal with a court, make sure it’s USPS certified mail, not FedEx or UPS, as those some how are not credible enough, according to GA judge.
Next time, call the police and make a report. They'll get the insurance info for you.
Not necessarily, you can totally file with your own insurance and let them go after the car wash's insurance. It usually leads to a less-stressful experience as your insurance will take care of you, and the other parties insurance might drag their feet but that's not your problem.
I got hit by a garbage truck and a year later hit a curb and they still cover me. Wonder what’s up with that
What state? Insurance companies are pulling out of states they can't guarantee to make money on.
California
I will never use geico again
I have GEICO and surprisingly all the no fault accident claims we’ve had to do ours never went up. Except this last policy- went up $400 because they decided my husbands basic ram truck is a “high performance” vehicle!?!?! Bullsh*t it is. Nothing fancy, basic model. Trust me we can’t afford anything all high end. Yet… get a $400 for 6 months increase…. Time to go!!!
I got rejected for auto insurance by them in IL, clean record, 2 cars, wife and I in our 30s.
I doubt they’ll find cheaper. I have connect through Costco and every other company was double-three times as much for the same coverage. I just checked 3 weeks ago.
Sounds like they don't want to file a withdrawal plan for that line of insurance either.
I don’t know about OPs location but the Connect policies are through AmFam in the Midwest. They’re def not leaving the business but they may be ditching Costco Connect.
Edit to add: AmFam is NOT licensed in all states so there are other companies too.
Costco connect wont even add in any customers who had previous accidents in past three years. Even if you aren’t even at fault. Car insurance is such a ridiculous hot mess right now. In my state, esurance and State Farm aren’t taking new customers. It’s a hot mess.
So what will happen if driver keep getting reject on new quote from other company?
Will the driver have to find and settle for the any rate that is much worse?
yeah the last resort insurers are often the smaller companies and the premium is often times way higher than what is average rate.
yes and yes. So I had an accident on my car and it happened 1.5 years ago, I fixed the car and paid my deductible. Now I can't get any other insurance company to insure me. I called costco connect and nope they won't even consider me till 3 years from the accident. For progressive it is 5 years. Geico will consider me but double my current premium with my carrier. I am essentially forced to stay with my current insurance company until the accident is way behind me at least 3-5 years per other insurance companies.
I had Kemper and they're dropping all home and auto policies nationwide. Hot mess is the perfect description
You can blame all the 100k teslas and megatrucks speeding down all the roads for increased premiums
Most cars built in the last 5-10 years, not just Teslas, are significantly more expensive to repair due to the additional electronics and sensors that get damaged in a wreck
The cars are more expensive, and the parts are as well.
For example, the taillight on an F150 used to have multiple parts - reflector, bulb, screws, lens, etc. You could buy all of the individually, and a cracked lens cost you $20. There were 25 or more parts that needed to be stocked, shipped, etc. Now the tail lights are a complete assembly, and there are only 4 total SKUs for taillights (left, right, and with/without a backup sensor). A cracked lens means replacing the entire assembly - for $800 if you have a backup sensor. This was from a handful of years ago, so things many have changed.
OP is driving a Tesla 🤦
My connect has trippled over the last year and they refuse to lower the estimated miles from 20k miles a year. My car is a 2017 and has 34k miles on it. I bought it with 19k miles in January 2019. I don't drive the thing. 0 tickets 0 accidents 35years old. 250 a month. 🤦♂️
Yep. I moved to USAA after they over doubled my car insurance after 15 plus years with Costco insurance.
It's surprising that USAA has better rates than someone else. They've always been more expensive in my experience.
That’s interesting - I have had USAA for years and a year ago I thought “hey, maybe I’m getting ripped off” so I shopped around. USAA was still the least expensive option by a fair margin when making the policies equal.
It's funny; I think it's the market. I had USAA for decades and was surprised a few years ago that GEICO was 30% less for the same coverage. At that time I didn't want to leave USAA so I asked them to just come down some and not only did they refuse, the CSR didn't believe me about the GEICO quote. I offered to send it to her and she refused.
Yeah, they've really gone downhill in value and quality in the last 10 years.
I'm in SoCal. I'm on Allstate and a good friend of mine is on USAA. He's definitely getting a better deal than me, even with all the money they're spending on Gronk.
Your being downvoted because Reddit like to shit on USAA, and while USAA is not the company it was 20 years ago, it still not terrible in comparison.
Depends on the state, in PA costco is cheaper but when I lived in AZ it was USAA with the better prices
We recently switched to USAA from SafeCo after they tried raising our monthly rate to $800 for home and auto. We instantly saved almost 50% for same coverage in some areas and better coverage in others. I was dumbfounded, as last time I checked them over a decade ago, they were more expensive than most others. Things definitely seemed to have changed.
My home insurance went way up with them, with no claims.
Ya, I left USAA, as an upper 30s man and wife, 2 vehicles, zero tickets and zero claims, to AmFam Connect through Costco, and my policy was literally 40% the price of USAA for line by line identical coverage. After the 6 month and then 1 year my rates did go up about 10% total from the original offer, on renewal, but that's still so much less.
USAA is crazy pricy now, imo.
My brother just went through this, he drives a company van and his personal vehicle sits at home. Connect changed the vehicle use to “pleasure” and now it’s covered like a weekend car would be.
Same thing happened to me since I WFH. Rates went up, I’ll be looking for a new policy in my new cycle in June.
Holy shit, shop your policy! Find an independent agent or spent a few hours online.
I pay $250/month. For me and two "youthful" drivers (not teens anymore) and my two cars. One of those youthful drivers has an at fault accident within the 7 year lookback. My primary driver is a 2022, the kids' car is a 2015.
Holy shit. Have you not shopped around for a better rate?
250 a month?! Shit that’s almost as much as my health insurance. I pay about 500 annually for car insurance.
Yeah for liability. Full coverage in a major city is much different
I agree insurance rules recently changed in VA it’s been a shake up since November and January and now June. If you buy a car now you need car insurance such as long time with VA having this loop hole.
My connect doubled this year. Went from $362 to $715 for 2024.
I'm paying about 250 for 6 months for liability with them
I asked for a quote to see if I could save some money, I have a clean 10 year record, my wife has 1 speeding ticket from 3 years ago and they denied us, couldn't believe it...
Edit: we are 38 and 37
Yeah but what kind of speeding ticket? 71 in a 65 or 71 in a 25 with children present?
They said in another comment it was 20+ MPH speeding ticket.
That makes sense then. Lots of places 20 plus is considered reckless driving and they can impound your vehicle. It's not simply a speeding ticket.
I think it depends on the state but yes it’s definitely a more serious offense. My first and only speeding ticket was a 20+ when I was about 17. I did the drivers ed offered from the court because they offered to dismiss the ticket if it was taken. I’m glad I did because I know my insurance would have gone way up if it remained on my record.
That gives me a lot of confidence. I have been with Costco home and auto for almost 40 years. And they can just dump you. One thing I learned is you are never really with their insurance long because they keep changing vendors now it’s Connected, before was Ameriprise, before that ..I don’t recall. One speeding ticket…unbelievable.
Maybe check your insurance documents. I don't have Costco insurance, but Progressive has a membership level chart that explains what you get in exchange for continuously renewing your car insurance each year. The highest level (I believe is 20 years) received a lifetime continuous renewal guarantee. Maybe Costco offers something similar.
The problem is Costco keeps changing carriers. The last one , Ameriprise, had a first accident forgiveness plan. The one , American Families. ‘Connect’ doesn’t. So every time they do that you are just a new person to them…no history, norhing.
Ameriprise got bought out by American Family, Costco just stayed with them even after the buyout/rebrand.
Is that right? I did not know that. However, my first accident free clause disappeared. And my experience when I moved was atrocious…at least for our new house.
They wouldn't even give me a quote when I had a singular claim for hitting a coyote.
Acme colluding with the roadrunner.
Wait, wouldn’t they’ve given him a discount if this was the case?
😥
I also hit a coyote...last December. It cost about $800 to fix, I paid my $500 deductible and they covered the rest... I hope they don't count this against me 😭
God, this is scary! I've been with Connect too for around 3 years now. Fortunately, no accidents or claims during this time but do have previous tickets. I guess if I ever have to claim with Connect, they will terminate my insurance as well.
Just helped my friend the other day to switch to Costco Connect from All State. He's in Georgia. Also got it cheaper from All State. And he had an accident claim within the last year or so with All State but still got accepted by Connect.
Was a customer for 14-15 years, then my rates when through the roof. Definitely not the company they used to be.
Do hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not the world it used to be…
True, was mildly surprised when they didn’t care at all about losing a customer.
Check out Amica. Top rated by Consumer Reports. I’ve had them for years. Great service and rates. Screw this company!
Yeah so hopefully Costco management reads this sub…bought a new home last year. Lived in previous house 18 years with Costco home and auto. After we sold our house, moved into the new one, I get a VM from “Jose” saying he has to come by and and inspect my house. No identification, no reference to anything. I’m like “who the f are you, all the inspections are done, scram scammer” Then get a letter from Connect stating they are cancelling my policy because I didn’t get the new house inspected by apparently “Jose”. Called them and they are basically “sucks to be you dude”. I was livid, was going to call Costco but figured why bother. I got insurance through my mortage company for a little bit more per month, but actually better coverage
I called Connect pre pandemic for homeowners insurance quote. My husband and I were denied because we had one claim in the last 3 years. Connect representative says they have stringent requirements. Basically, you better not file any claims.
Hmm I was considering Costco for home and auto but this combined with not great reviews - forget it.
Fck that shit: file a claim, hit something lol. Don’t let them off the hook after u paid them money.
Just find another carrier.
They can drop you for pretty much anything.
Was the speeding ticket in a 25 zone, school zone, construction work zones, or more than 30 miles over the limit? Certain states have penalties for certain speeding tickets that give points on automatically put on the license. They are considered worse than average tickets.
I got disqualified because of a claim due to a stone chip in the windshield claim.
2022 ticket
I honestly tried Connect (live in Las Vegas) late last year and it was a complete shitshow. They claimed violations that did not exist and even after I had clarifying letters from previous companies and their search engines they refused to adjust the rates. Their customer service was terrible for me as well. Gave it a month and left.
For reference, 830+ credit score, zero at fault accidents, one ticket in the past 3 years that was reduced to a moving violation for failure to stop (disputed at court).
I see many people recommend connect on Vegaslocals.
Is it really that bad?
I had a bad experience and went with AAA and it works great for me.
It's standard. Anyone with a ticket of any kind within the past 6 years does not qualify. It makes sense that you get booted now that you have a recent violation.
That’s weird… one ticket… wtf.
Speeding Excess usually means 20+ moh over the speed limit. It might be just "one ticket", but it's a pretty serious ticket.
Insurance companies know they don’t stop speeding after a ticket either.
I mean, have you talked to people about their speeding habit? Shit, it’s like talking to an alcoholic. They refuse to accept that it’s a dangerous habit, always blaming everything on everyone else. People seriously act like it’s their god-given right to speed.
I was a deputy LOL I agree, everyone thinks they have a better handle on the rules and safety than everyone else.
Until they kill someone then they feel bad and wish they did not
Tell that to this kid who killed 4 driving 112 mph in a 50 zone. 3 crashes in 12 months. https://www.king5.com/article/news/crime/suspect-renton-crash-pleads-not-guilty/281-4a19f0e5-0505-4f9b-b7e8-92204deb5a9f
That trash bag
It blows my mind that people can be like that.
I think OP confirmed it was for speeding 20+ so yeah it’s not just a simple speeding ticket.
Are you in California? Costco connect insurance, as well as a lot of other insurance companies are pulling out of California and that means that if you wouldn’t have gotten the ticket and given them a reason to cancel your policy they wouldn’t have renewed the policy when the current policy expired, yea you will have to find a new insurance company and yea you will have to pay a higher premium because of the ticket but look at it like this, you were going to have to find a new insurance company and you were probably going to pay more fore it either way for no reason other than you chose to live in California
The letter says Georgia. I live in California and at least I can read.
for no reason other than you chose to live in California
Would the fact that California has high amounts of losses year over year be enough reason? Cali also has a large amount of EVs which wind up cost extreme amounts for any damage. More payout higher base rate reguadless of how clean your record is.
FL is in a very similar situation and they also have a glass coverage fraud issue going too.
Every state is fucked when it comes to any type of insurance. So just choosing to live in California has nothing to do with it. Better than living in Florida
Just curious if traffic school was an option for you?
What are the details of the ticket? Doesn't sound small was it like 45 over the limit? This is very important. This happened to my step dad because he went 75 in a residential school zone that was 25...
I was rejected because someone hit me and I was considered no-fault, so I doubt the details matter.
No fault, or not at fault? No fault could mean you caused or didn’t cause it, states with no fault insurance basically treat both parties as at fault in terms of who files.
They did this to me about 5 years ago. When I complained back then, the response was it happened to almost everyone.
odd thought here, but with the executive membership they offer lifetime renewals. I don’t see anything about speeding tickets in my contract… my insurance with them doubled March 1. It is not a shocking rate for a car I drive 5,000 miles per year… I did some shopping and their rate was competitive. Good ole Texas for ya.
It's pretty hard to get stopped for speeding in GA. If you're not doing 80 on interstate 85 or on 285 you better keep to the right.
Anytime I drive I-75 from FL to ATL it's just littered with GSP pulling people over. I've been told by locals to not even get close to 85 or it's just asking for a super speeder ticket.
So that's where they all are. Most of the perimeter there's no real estate to park and run radar let alone pull people over buy I rarely see them on 85 north or south side of metro Atlanta.
Ah gotcha, that makes more sense. I usually only touch 85 around the metro area, otherwise just up and down 75 for me
I love this insurance for the cheap premium. I had to use the home owner's for storm damage and they paid out. They also paid out twice for vehicle claims that were comprehensive/act of God issues. I'm hoping not to get kicked off despite my clean driving record. Yikes.
I bought a new car but I think if I still owned my old hyundai elantra, I would be off the plan by now. Good riddance to that insurance magnet.
This absolutely BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!!
I live in TX. They did not renew mine for having a speeding ticket. Also for not next three years.
Yeah well look at the bright side, they gave you a year and a half.
Unrelated but I recently signed up with them and at first they wouldn’t allow me to add my wife’s vehicle (she had an accident claim from like 1 year ago ago). However, it was 50% cheaper than Geico for mine, so I switched.
Fast forward 6 months later and my policy renewed (price did not increase) and I was able to add my wife and save about 50% on her as well.
All this while our deductibles are lower and coverages are the same. I’m actually shocked at how cheap it is.
You’re a liability. They want to cut you off. It’s their choice.
I buy lots of products from Costco, from TVs to clothes to contact lenses. But they are not an insurance company. They are simply a middleman selling you insurance from another real insurance company. All my insurance is through USAA and they tend to be cheaper than most real insurance companies. They also provide excellent service and are very easy to deal with. There are insurance brokers who will get you quotes from several companies. I would not buy insurance from a company that has a record of dropping customers after one or two tickets or an accident, especially a no fault accident. I’ve had a few of those over the years - hit a deer, rear ended, damage in a parking lot, etc. never a peep from them and they paid for all repairs.
Connect seems to cancel you for any reason now. Happened to me as well.
Go with GEICO. They take (and keep) anybody.
I've had so many at-fault accidents, reckless driving, attempted eluding of police, running over deer, glass claims from break-ins....never been threatened with dropped coverage.
I've been with GEICO since 2004.
I remember that actor from Law and Order.
GEICO used to be cheap for the coverage, but now it's up to $1,400 a year for me. I just switched to another company for $900/yr for similar coverage.
Yeah, I have the max coverage for collision and comprehensive; it's about $2,000 a year for me. The $0 deductible for comprehensive has been a real blessing though.
I don't know why a few people downvoted this comment. S/he is just telling their story, didn't name-call anyone or offend anybody. Grow the hell up guys.
As someone who works insurance, this behavior is horrifying. Like at what point do they lose their license because they are costing everyone else so much money and endangering lives with little to no regard. Evading police? You better believe I'll judge and downvote
Welcome to reddit where a substantial number of people like to shoot the messenger.
No THEY need to grow the hell up and learn to drive.
You get in trouble for running over deear ?
It's a comprehensive claim. Damage from animals hits is comprehensive, not collision. Made my premiums go up slightly.
No trouble as far as police or courts are concerned.
I've had GEICO for 3 years (car, home, umbrella). The total has increased 50% in that time. Still cheaper than others when I shop around.
The home insurance is funny for me; I have a wood stove instead of a fireplace and every insurance company requires an inspection from a fire marshal or other licensed inspector before they will consider coverage. Apparently home insurance hates wood stoves...
I was told last year that Connect will not cover you if you have any dings on your insurance in the last five years. I was denied because I filed a claim because someone backed into my parked car and I had to file uninsured motorist.
I did lose my good driver discount because of a claim I made last year. So I guess I should be lucky they didn’t cancel me. State Farm in California
I tried to sign up for Connect, but they only accept people that haven't had any incidents in the past 3 years, according to the rep I spoke with. I had an accident 2 years ago, so I'll try again.
This is for going at least 20mph over the posted limit. Costco basically pulled a FAFO on ya and you're paying the price.
nope, i got an auto renewal with an increased rate, which seems to be everyone's experience in CA. my homeowner's insurance also went up a lot (but that policy is not with CONNECT)
So many people getting rejected I got connect insurance at a very cheap rate just 6 months ago, but then again I am over 40 with a clean driving record.
Many, but not all states have required amounts of activity needed to non-renew an auto policy. If this is a state that has an activity requirement and your minor speed does not meet that - file a complaint with the insurance company and threaten to go to the department of insurance. They will change their mind quick and lift the non-renewal. Just look up your state online and search requirement to non-renew a personal lines auto policy and go from there.
Just cancelled mine. At one point they were the cheapest but the past two times it was time to renew they tried to raise my premiums by over $200. I called to ask why as I had no violations, claims, ECT. They basically said that it just increases based on the area you live in and what not. $200 for 6 months is ridiculous.
Cancel and went with Travelers which was cheaper then what I was originally playing with Connect.
I know that in CA and FL, Connect will not issue new policies, and is probably actively looking to terminate existing policies to Costco members. So, they will likely use the slightest sign of "bad" driving as rationale to do so. Perhaps that's happening in your state as well.
