This is a picture I took of her in the act of trying to bite my nails lol
My cat always tries to bite me when I get acrylics or press on nails….why?
Mine does this too. I’m just guessing my sweet girl is trying to help me groom my “claws” because that’s what she has to do.
Ah yeah that makes sense
I second this, my boy does this for me and he's very dedicated to it. If I so happen to dare bring out my nail file he gets antsy, almost like he's offended, so I can only use a nail file away from him when he's asleep LOL
I got an extended family member that HATES the sound of a nail file being used to apparently his mom tries to sneak it all the time (poorly)
Yess, my boyfriend hates the sound of
lol too 😊
Same! My boy sits bewildered at what I’m doing - then tries to eat the nail file whilst in action 🤣
Probably thinks you have a loose sheath that you can't quite get off on your own
That makes more sense. I was going to guess now that you have nails give me chin scratches
Shes trying to groom you and get the foreign substance off of your nails.
sometimes cats are attracted to the scent of some kinds of plastics so maybe they smell similar to that? idk
We couldn’t leave photos out - my cat would chew them to bits and we have no idea why she loved them so much 🤣
I miss her ❤️
aww beautiful girl ❤️🩹
She was my adorable temperamental kitty ❤️
Awww, the’s lovely. Definitely looking for some more nails to chew in that one 🖤
Dip the nails and black olives juice and see what happens.
Tru putting catnip on them, see what they do after
This ^ As soon as I get a box / large envelope in the mail, I have to dispose of anything with adhesive on it - my boy loves tape
Does she chew on her claws? My boy who does has a tendency to bite my fingers (no press ons) and I think he’s trying to help groom me.
Yeah she does!
Mine does this, too. It was weird at first, but he's super gentle so I generally let him do it.
My cats don't do it, but I had pets rats that liked to groom my nails. They are also good st removing hangnails.
Nailscissor salespeople hate this one simple trick!
I think it’s the smell of the glue/materials.
I once had a cat who would start chewing on Hannaford plastic grocery bags as soon as I brought them in the house. She wouldn't go after any other stores bags. The vet said some plastics are made with a corn derivative with attracts them.
Our cats love to chew on all kinds of plastic. I assume something similar is happening with the acrylic nails.
Alot of the "reusable" plastic shopping bags are made with fish oils too.
Glue huffer?
Saying you could have spent that money on some extra treats
dude your cat looks like mine
Aw she does
yours is a gray calico right?
Grey Dilute Tortoiseshell .^
close enough
My dogs do this as well.
Just figure it’s them trying to figure out what the hell is on my hands lol.
Textures diffrent, sounds diffrent when the teefs grab it. Cat brain like the weird claws.
shelter worker here; there could be a few reasons she does this
she can smell the various scents from you getting your nails done and, believing you to be sick or otherwise unable to remove the foreign objects stuck to your fingers, is trying to do it for you.
she actually likes the scent of the nails and is biting you to hold your hand close to her nose, since she can’t physically hold your hand
the same as 2, but for taste
Cronchy
Silly
You has new flavor.
My cat likes to nip on my fingers too once in a while I always think he is showing his affection.
Crunchy
Mine bites my phone every time i put on a new phone cover until he has rubbed on it enough for it to smell like him. I guess it's the foreign object smell
My cat does this whenever I smell different, I take it as she's remarking her territory, lol.
I'm a cat professional, I can confirm that they're just being silly
Maybe she just thinks the glitter is funny.
both my cats do this, i have to keep my hands away from their faces when my nails are done lol
My boy would lick all the cuticle oil off whenever I got home, and I assume he chomped my nails for the same reason. 😂 Tasty yummy mom fingers.
Smells the toxic smells. Aggravates him
It may be the adhesive or solvents. At least four of our cats over the years have loved the smell and taste of tape of all kinds. Slightly different but even worse, two of them loved the smell of bleach.
Hungy
both my cats do this, i have to keep my hands away from their faces when my nails are done lol
my cat gives gentle bites when he’s overstimulated or extra happy, maybe your girl is just excited from the extra good scritches you can give with longer/sharper nails?
Cute cat, and nails!!
U got ur claws out 🤷🏻♂️
Something in the chemicals. My cat bites my legs if I put on lotion.
You trim her nails when they’re too long, so maybe she’s doing the same? 😂
He tryna say your beautiful as you are
I'm pretty sure they like the smell
Critters love shiny things, like crows that collect gems
Normally for me it’s because my cat wants to cronch.
The same reason humans chew on pen caps, it feels good.
my cats try to lick and bite them off
Likely the plastic or chemical smells
She wants her own pair
My boy would lick my nails and I would have to stop him every time
Tasty.
Apparently this is pretty common. When my wife comes back from the nail salon, our cat will obsessively try to get to them. I always assumed they didn't like the smell?? And were trying to get rid of it. One day, I smashed a finger. Doc said to put nail glue on it to keep it in place and then a clear top coat to protect the nail. Guess what.... cat hated it. And it was just that ONE finger.
Mine likes to chew on my nails
Mine loved doing it too. I think it's just fun for them
Asserting his dominance
The glue...gets them high...
probably because they make clicky noises that intrigue them. also my cat can immediately detect plastic of all kinds and wants to lick the surface.
She crave the cronch
Great picture, love the look in her eyes. She’ll do it again, she’s crazy.
My cat does it because he thinks they’re toys
My dog loved to nibble the ends of my acrylics, and my sassiest cat (who lives to chew plastic) did it, too. I think they liked the texture? I always tried to clean out underneath my nails really well, so hopefully they weren't harvesting food bits 😂
As others have mentioned, some solvents, plastics, and cleaning agents containing ammonia or chlorine compounds give off an odor that cats go bonkers over. It appears to hit their brains in much the same way catnip does, causing excitation, drooling, rolling, nibbling, and other "crazed" behaviors. And also like catnip, some cats are reactive and some are not. Some are reactive when younger, then lose it as they age, and some are the reverse.
As if we needed any further confirmation that cats are oddball creatures.
They're helping to sharpen your claws. Lol
You’re copying her look
Delishous
Wow! Twins!
they tend to think we are giant dumb cats so she’s probably trying to help groom you
The scent is wrong.
Crumchy
He loves you just the way you are.
Haha super cute cat.
My roommates cat also does this!
Hes tasting for quality. Can you fight your enemies with these? No? Lemme sharpen em....
She does not like the acrylic press on nails. Was it a rescue cat? Maybe experienced something bad from hands that had acrylic press on nails. Check if he/she gets agitated the same time.
She’s not a rescue cat, I got her from previous owners who took well good care of her - before having to give her away due to an illness, that made it impossible for them to keep caring for her. But I’ve noticed she doesn’t get agitated or anything, just tries to chew them off gentle for the most part.
He knows it’s bad for you 😂😂
Don't get acrylics.
To get rid of those nasty things.
She is trying to save you from all the toxins associated with fake nails.
