Female spys/assassins were called “Kunoichi” They used their femininity as an advantage, dressing as maids, geisha and even concubines using gender as an advantage as people thought they were weak.
That said, I doubt they strutted around with swords out fighting samurai in suits of armour.
And i imagine a more authentic rendition of Kunoichi would have been much more appreciated as movies like “lady snow blood” have clearly shown.
I would love to play as a Kunoichi, and add the movility of normal assassins creed, it sounds like a banger to me. To be fair, it sounds like hitman too. And they could include Yasuke as an informer or something.
Yo, imagine a game where we could go through some training and then actually infiltrate a palace using speech and what we learn of the culture by performing the right music or poetry for the moments, performing tea ceremonies correctly, etc.
And then finding the right time to assassinate someone and the entire palace. Possibly using poison and distractions to weaken guards so we could get around easier cause we're not just a superhuman with infinite hit points.
That would be too fun of a game for them to make it seems.
So literally Hitman in feudal Japan....shit, now I want this
They're not interested in showing how women actually contributed throughout history. They want to insert women into historically male roles and have them be abrasive and masculine so you know they're tough and can beat up 3 men.
Onna Bugeisha. Search. Tomoe Gozen
Spies.
Female assassins in feudal Japan were actually fairly common.
They weren't jumping off rooftops or skulking in shadows. But they would do things like become a maid at a lord's house, then once they've earned their trust, they'd assassinate the lord.
Yup. They live their whole lives for one purpose. They were not the best fighters or the best combat specialists.
Their skill was in remaining hidden in plain sight for years, even decades until called upon.
And if retaliated upon, they usually die.
So Shogun, basically
Didn't they also used poison and stuff to kill their victims (maybe at best a dagger) more then weapons like katanas?
In one of James Clavell's novels 'Gai-Jin' a side character is a female ninja who had been trying to get close to this lord for months or years. The novel - and his novels are long as fuck - has periods where it followed what she was up to, until she finally gets to serve in the same room as him.
Then she gets exposed due to other random drama that happened in the other parts of the narrative and says 'fuck it,' tries to assassinate the lord directly. He basically cut her in half from the shoulder to the hip, and everyone is congratulating him because splitting an enemy in two with a katana is like a legendary feat. But the lord himself, while accepting the praise, thinks that it's not the same because she's 'just a woman'.
At least that's how I remember it. Read that book like 20 years ago or something.
yeah Kunoichi (female ninja) were real. As you said though they typically didn't take on high physical roles like running on rooftops (and honestly assassinations weren't the only role of a ninja, they could be spies, information gathers, disinformation sources, thieves, saboteurs, poisoners (sometimes the goal wasn't to kill but rather just make a lot of people really sick/distracted), and so on.) The Kunoichi might become maids, prostitutes, musicians, artisans, cooks etc basically anything that would allow them even remotely close to whatever there target goal was without attracting to much attentions.
The best on screen showcase of this is probably the recent Shogun TV show. They are normally trained as basically spies. And they wait their entire lives until they are given the signal. The majority of them are actually killed in the attempt or even if they succeed. They are killed trying to escape.
They are trained to kill one target and die
No one tell baldy about the bansenshukai or the onna-musha, his head might explode.
Anyways.
Am I the only one that finds exhausting to the point of apathy the autistic hyper fixation of gamers trying to find drama in every new release?
If I agree with Asmon on one thing is this: the real thing we should all be fucking worried about is how much they're testing the waters with jacking up prices real fast from one generation to the next.
Fellow gamers, let's agree on this. Whatever important or asinine opinion you might have about the nationality or genitals of any given main character good for you, I hope you find a game that makes you happy.
But please remember.
Do not preorder.
Vote with your wallet.
This kid’s voice is nails on a chalkboard.
You can hear the spattering of spit
You can hear the fedora about to tip.
…m’theydy
I see what you did here and I love it. 😆
Sounds like he spits when he talks too which is even more disgusting
Imagine trying to be friends with this dude...
He's trying to rant to you about Asmon's take on games an anime, but you're too busy watching droplets of his spit land in your food to pay attention to what he's saying.
agree...also, didn't they told us that women need to be realistic (by US standards) in games? huh?
The last time I checked most of their ideal stereotype need a cart to move around.
These anime kids making us weebs look bad..
Sound like the typical uptight reddit user
Honestly i'd gladly hear nails on a chalkboard for a year if it could make me unsee that bullshit
Yeah, that and constantly screaming and being completely shook up the entire time is also extremely off putting and makes him sound like a little kid screaming in call of duty or something. It's fucking pathetic.
I love how he ruins his own argument and backtracks in the last 40 seconds of the video lmao
I thought it was funny how he belittle the back man for not liking the fact that they were representing them in a game and then said if you were Asian and were upset you were in the right and basically agreed with the man he was just belittling what a joke
Well done, you made it to the end.
It really took everything I had to make it there.
Yeah literally established why the vast majority of people hate the change. The tokenism and the hypocrisy as they would never do this in any other country. And then like him failing to see the difference between a straight up fantasy game where an actual samurai fights demons versus a game that built itself on accurate representations of historical figures simply influenced by the cloak and dagger and sci fi aspects of the brotherhood and Templars. It isn’t alternate history, it’s our history with a fictional war in the shadows and some sci fi progenitor stuff. Like for a perfect example of what it would be like in another culture with another group of people, it’s like if they made a game set in 1940s China where you play as Adrian carton de Wiart and you have to fight mao and the Japanese. How well do you think that would go over? And Adrian was a vastly more interesting, accomplished, and badass person than the footnote that is yasuke. Yet I would still complain non stop if he were the main character. Yeah Asmon’s argument is bullshit and moronic. It’s why I don’t watch him but saying that there isn’t serious issues with the choices about all of this and the historical inaccuracies in a game series that has games in museums for how accurate they are, is just delusional and straight up wrong.
You got further than me. I only got as far as "She could take on 3 men, that's why she learned to be a ninja" while the background footage shows her doing just that.
Came up on my feed , thought it was funny since it seems like he actually agrees with asmon by the end of the clip
Honestly, I mostly agree with him. I don't think the girl assassin is a problem. The problem is the tokenism of a black guy and the exclusion of a Japanese protagonist.
A girl assassin is not an issue. It becomes an issue when the other character is black, because then you realize : "Oh alright, the girl was just chose due to woke ideology that minorities/women are good thing and should be represented just because they are women/minorities, even if it makes no sense and borderline insulting to another culture"
Otherwise it would be fine. Like it's so blatant, and that's why he talks about it breaking escapism, they really made no effort hiding what they were trying to do, could have made his armor rainbow colors I wouldn't have been that much more surprised.
I'm glad and find it a very good thing that they are not so suble and smart about forcing their agenda into everything anymore. Because yes, this way more and more people realize these companies actually don't care about them. All these target groups they claim to represent and empower are nothing to them but cattle to exploit for financial gains. And finally people start to notice on all sides.
Could've given this chance to spotlight a cool historic Japanese figure and include their diversity policy but the wokes says no
Yeah if Kunta Kente wasn't a slave ,then yasuke isn't a samurai
I have read in some other threads on different subs that Asians are apparently "white adjacent"
Why not a samurai Japanese man and a ninja Japanese woman. That would have been nice imo.
No one complained about the female assassin in the sidescroller
I mean yeah the twins weren't a problem and Kunoichi in the time period were perfect spies and assassins because they were most underestimated in gender and class. A Girl assassin in Japan is perfect.
The talk ends up straying into her field due to things you've mentioned.
Her presence would have made perfect sense if the main male character was japanese. But instead we get a questionable black guy so her presence is also questioned as she is now connected to him. Just picture it like some (food) packages where half of the ingredients got replaced, idk.
Asmon also got derailed into this topic. Not like what he says is untrue - if you want something to be dead right here and now you need to slice/chop deep; and strength is required for this stuff, one technique is not enough. But in the end it can be enabled by other in game stuff - don't exactly see her unrealistically overpower men in the trailer; except for (throwing) weapons piercing thru armor like butter (and we've seen too much of that in prev AC trailers to completely ignore that).
Honestly the girl seems fine, they even tackled the issue he had by making her the stealthy one. I just fucking hate how these whiny losers just cry sexism rather than understanding that not everyone understood the same thing they did.
I think in the original video he was just kind of wrong but that doesn’t automatically make him sexist.
all they need to do to avoid tokenism, is root their race and sex in the story. The assisins is an international organization but never had access to japan until the black guy (who is an assassin showed up), Portuguese Templars have already deeply rooted themselves in Japan, and have a great deal of influence (and Japanese lords who have joined their cause). The girls family dies because of this new faction in Japan starting war with the old faction, and shes eventually becomes associated with the one assassin in japan, and is recruited by him (for some reason, cant come up with anything compelling)
Is the chick Japanese?
IS THE CHICK JAPANESE, TOMORROW-MEMORY-8838?
The issue is with trust in authenticity. We've had diverse game characters in the past many times and no one cared because we trusted the game's authenticity. I mean this implementation of Yasuke could be authentic, however recently we've all seen the monetary incentives that game studios push onto works to spread an agenda and now we have a situation where everything is questioned. Game studios revealed their inauthenticity and now unfortunately for them everything they do will now be questioned. Sucks but they did this to themselves.
The irony is that he reacted to a video that featured a black man giving his opinion, and he didn't even hear the basics of his argument. Yea, he's really interested in the unique perspective of black men.
Definately. That black guys video was an interesting perspective and all his points were totally valid. This dude just sounds like hes trying to start a witch hunt right from the get go.
Their trampling over the minorities in an attempt to save them
Woke mob speaking over black voices? Never.
INSHANE SSHPEAL
These people are literal npcs that don't understand how immersion works. If you can't understand why people take issue with this, you're either feigning ignorance or so low IQ that you shouldn't be a part of the conversation.
They're too poisoned by irony and deconstruction to ever be immersed.
They're not feigning ignorance, this is 100% their playbook. You can't tell me that Ubisoft making a game in feudal japan and making the main character a black guy won't register on the "this is weird/intentional" radar of the average person.
These kinds of things have happened to practically every series over the last decade, and their arguments are ALWAYS the same.
100% true. If you close your eyes and picture a Samurai what do you see? Probably not a women or a black man. It's as simple as that.
So he is ok with the criticism for the characters gender and race, just not with the reasoning for it. I mean, isn't that the whole point of WHY people are upset with it? Sure, there are people out there who are upset JUST because it's a woman and a black guy, but that's not why the majority are upset for this. And truth be told, though I haven't kept up to date with Asmon's content, I bet he shares the sentiment that it's not it being a woman or black guy, it's why it had to be a woman and black guy.
Pope = Wizard
He got a point there.
That guy sounds like he'll never touch a woman in his life.
Why would you subject any woman to that voice?
I think I can speak for all gay men when I say we wont touch him either.
"I think it's pretty cool it adds a unique perspective"
Yeah, the perspective that Asian people don't deserve representation and should just eat shit and make room for real minorities, apparently
The funny thing is that Nioh 1 was notably criticized for Anjin. It has that basis in reality again with the concept of the plot but everyone pretty well said "Hey this feels real weird." It also didn't try to hold onto a kernel of genuine feeling for the day to day that Assassin's Creed had and instead solely sat in historical fiction with zombie Nobunaga, which even then has a better example of Yasuke there because he's still acting as a retainer to him.
So, I don't nessecarily agree with everything this guy says. While i agree it's not realistic for a female assassin to take on trained samurai warriors.. Being an assassin means using stealth and unfair situations to kill enemies. I think females could get away with doing that realistically but this was probably not the norm.
In terms of Yuske, I dont really care but lets not beat around the bush and not pretend they did this for EDI reasons. It's the first time they actually made a real person into a playable character and this is their choice. It was done 100 percent to pander for progressive points. William in Nioh was actually a real samurai and the game follows his story. The difference is Yuske while being a real person has his tale altered to fit a narrative. It just comes off as pandering and people are sick of it.
I'm indifferent regarding the AC controversy but I give point to this dude showing that he actually watched the video. People who actually listen to what he said, what is your opinion?
He does have a point about Asmons critique of the female character. Asmon missed the mark on that one.
But the black samurai is laughable. If they had a male Japanese Samurai and female ninja, nobody sane would have had an issue with it.
Yeah, "a female assassin is unrealistic. There's no situation where a girl is beating down guys" is a take I didn't think I'd actually hear from Asmon. Not wanting to play as a female character is one thing, but talking about how a female assassin is too unrealistic for a video-game and it's only for woke points? Huh? As if Anime doesn't have female assassins and warriors. Guess Quentin Tarantino is woke too since Kill Bill exists. I feel like he's just spouting shit he thinks his incel audience wants to hear at this point.
Women being assassins and warriors in anime generally makes sense to me because I can just say "hey they have magic, she's probably using mana to strengthen herself or something".
(But even without that, people just don't trust western writers to mess around with stuff like race, gender, and sexuality anymore. The DEI apple has spoiled the bunch so to speak.)
Assassin's Creed does have fantasy elements, but no one aside from final bosses do anything remotely magical/fantastical (I haven't played every game, so if random guards in the latest games shoot magic missiles at you, let me know lol).
OMGUW BLEEEK BLURR BLEEEEURKKK THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH A BLUERGGG BLACK BURREERGGGG SAMURAI- Angry Youtuber SJW capt. Of sweet baby Inc volunteer regimen 47th calvary dick suckers
remember when Eqypt sued Netflix when they did a similar thing.
It is different this time, but Japan should be upset about this.
This anime youtuber is an enormous bundle of sticks..
Foo.. shoo..
Excluding an actual Japanese samurai is the problem they literally shoehorned in a black guy that wasn't a samurai to begin with
That's the issue but some people out there who completely miss the point and then get defensive for the wrong reasons like this fool
That's such a punchable voice. Can't wait for Tiktok getting banned so I don't have to suffer any more of these cringe.
I don't think your being sexist if you feel like it makes more sense to play a samurai as a Japanese man when 99% of the samurai in Japan were male back then. I think you missed the point. It's so easy to throw sexist and racist word these days.
Better to be morrally correct than factual correct, that's their motto, the most devious ones try to change history just so they can support their argument.
"adding a black guy adds a unique perspective to samurai game". Does it really though, if it's effectively the same perspective we've seen presented by modern story-telling hundreds of times, simply pushed into a Japanese setting? Do they think that there couldn't have been other unique perspective from Japanese people back then or that those stories weren't just as equally meaningful or interesting? Are Japanese people all the same samurai stereotype to Ubisoft? Seems like a massive opportunity to do something new or that breaks Samurai clichés, while still staying true to the setting.
I support a peaceful divorce, if it won't be peaceful, i support the freedom loving american's doing everything in their power to distance themselves from these freaks.
This kid blew up from saying an anime fight was peak and commented over it as to why.
Now, people are listening to his social commentary? Bro is like 16 and knows nothing. I watched one he posted and couldn't get through it with all his misinformation.
He's legit just a kid. No wisdom here.
ERHM ACKSHUALLY
That kid is a total butt monkey.
Asmongold is correct when he says nothing will change until we stop buying these crap games.
I think it's a valid point that it's not about immersion.
A better criticism is that it's overdone and boring now.
Weren't people up in arms years ago about every game starring straight white men? Yet now it MUST be sexism/ racism if you roll yours eyes when another game or movie stars a 100 lb flawless, genius, ass kicking woman or a stereotype breaking black man. Both of which must always overcome sexism/ racism at some point in the story BTW.
It's overdone to the point of being shallow and predictable now. No one cares anymore.
If the videos focusing on the woman than I believe they're missing the biggest contrast. Nonoe is fine, but she's also an original character Ubi created which is the norm in AV. Now compare that with who have alongside her, Yusuke a real historical figure which Ubi is clearly using as a way to use dei inclusive development practices.
This dude seems like one of them weird furry types. Raging over nothing because he can't Yapp at people like this in real life.
“Authentic piece of fiction” and “it’s not historical” as back to back statements is beautiful
ngl, he/she sounded like someone who got bullied in school
Sexist? I though the problem was the one and only black guy in all of fudal Japan to focus on, not the woman.
"I don't view this as an authentic piece of fiction", "It's just kinda fanfiction"
What does he think FICTION is?!?!
Don't forget the "it's not historical"...for a videogame. I mean, these would be good critiques for a textbook or a docuseries. But a videogame?
Final Fantasy XVI is set on the XVI century, true story.
Normally I wouldn't care, but when its clearly obvious that a corporation is pushing blackface and fempower because Blackrock is going to give them DEI points then I say fuck that game and I wouldn't even pirate it.
Team Ninja is a Japanese company though. So the Nioh comparison doesn’t make sense.
Ubisoft is a western developer clearly trying to do a virtue signal.
Black guy says he doesn't like the MC being black because it's very on the nose about it's agenda pushing.
Anime guy: Yea I can't say anything about his opinion, BUT I LIKE IT, it gives a uNiQuE PeRsPeCtiVe🤓🤓
anyone complaining does not play all the assassins creed games real fans dont care
People won't agree with you here, but these were my thoughts exactly.
Sure having a Japanese protagonist would have made sense, make the female Japanese and leave the guy black. I don't see a problem with a female lead and listening to asmongolds take took me by surprise since I feel like he's mostly a level headed guy.
But I don't see why having more variation in protagonist roles is bad, I don't see how it breaks immersion, and like you say, the pope is a badass wizard, but maybe people think that part is true, who knows.
I do love how he has to immediately back track and say it’s okay for Japanese people to not be okay with it. Bro just say you hate white people if you’re gonna make it this obvious.
So if a japanese person makes the same point it's valid? This guy's just a racist then
"Assassin's Creed II had the pope."
later,
"Nothing in Assassin's Creed has ever been realistic."
Pope is not real, you heard it from the wet badger trapped in a canvas bag.
There was a thread on r/BlackPeopleTwitter that mocked people who were ok with Miura Anjin (a white samurai) as the protagonist of Nioh 1 but not ok with Yasuke. I said that Nioh 1 was made by a Japanese developer (Team Ninja), whereas Shadows is made by a Western developer, and that meant a world of difference.
I was immediately banned from that subreddit LOL.
People can have different opinions about this matte. Only people who are not able to retort in an intelligent and logical way resort immediately to censorship.

I’ve wanted a Japanese AC forever and woke agenda ruined yet another awesome thing.
they trying steller blades formula.
Don't even give this guy attention
Ubisoft gender-swapped a samurai named Naoe Kanetsugu. They also look at japanese history under a microscope, so that they could find someone diverse enough that they could capitalize on.
The only reason Yasuke is the protagonist, is bc he's black. The only reason Naoe is the protagonist, is bc she's a woman now, apparently.
Dude says he doesn't have a stance when a black guy considers a black samurai MC tokenism, but he doesn't have a problem taking a stance on unrealistically strong female characters. White knight male feminist cowardism.
And yet Yasuke ,the African samurai actually existed ... Same as female warriors accomponing samurai called onna Musha ... Asmon should do his research before condemning something
These kids recording their computer monitor
I hate to say it asmons take is wrong just look up nabushi or Onna-bugeisha. They were literally female elite samurais. Whole divisions of them. Even historically, due to having higher dexterity were some of the best bodyguards for feudal lords. It's historically accurate to say females have always made the better assassins, but it was due to feminine charm and getting targets to drop their guard. (only here to make the clarification not to fight or argue...I could care less)
Onna-bugeisha was a type of female warrior belonging to the Japanese nobility. These women engaged in battle alongside samurai men mainly in times of need. They were members of the bushi class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war.
No there weren't 'divisions' of them.
I love Danny Motta. One of the best true reaction channels. This might be his biggest hot take ever.
If the male was like Jin Sakai-esk in wouldnt be an issue. The issue even if yasuke was a samurai is that he's simply not japanese. Stick to the culture. Plus we've already had 4 female protagonists. A woman is not the issue.
Meh he raises some fine points if you actually listen. Games aren't realistic especially not assassins creed. Why are people suddenly acting like it's always been some kind of historically accurate sim or something?
And what was asmon's point if not "women can't be assassins in AC because that's not realistic/historical" because that's what it sounded like when I watched this on his stream lol
why did he bring william wallace into this
Ngl, pretty spot on
From my point of view I think the 'a woman can't fight 3 men' argument pretty dumb ad the guy here is right. She doesn't beat the ppl at first but then trains to become stronger and eventually can fight multiple ppl at once. You ain't beating the allegations on this one, chief.
But the whole 'The previous AC's had fictional elements so why does a black guy cross the line?'. We've had so many types of media make parodies of historical figures from anime to American cartoons to other games. It's fine if the whole premise is that that type of media is a parody, but if you're trying to stay grounded to the actual history (because this doesn't seem to have any fantastical elements to it), it's important to know your source and not twist it to appeal to a bigger audience.
I think having a cameo with Yasuke is pretty cool ngl. But I don't like him being a core character. I'd like him to be a cool side character like Ghost from COD and maybe have a little side mission where you go on the battlefield as him fighting others. Again, I don't know his true story, so if he was a retainer or samurai, he was still a very impactful person in history to have gained respect or an honorable position, coming from slavery
NIOH sold 3 mil assassin’s Creed sells anywhere from 10 to 20 mil I hate when people use this example because it makes no sense. No shit no one complained about it. No one even knows it exists!!! The last samurai opened up to massive criticism when that came out. Also nioh if I’m not mistaken, literally revolves around William Adams story specifically so of course he would be in his own story as far as I’m aware
Honestly don't see as much catering to a specific audience here as they are represented based on real people, but I can totally see how this annoys ppl as it does break immersion tho I don't really think it needs insane amounts of it. I think the company probably just thought it would be a nice spin on things and wasn't maliciously forced as it usually is. I'm rly just of the side that doesn't mind it as long as the story and gameplay is decent. Im sure people will be complaining about way more other things than the whole female and black guy thing after the gane releases.
Honestly, everyone is probably just saying all this as we've been seeing a lot of nonsense inclusion in media and have overall lost the trust of people, so I'm honestly not surprised people are pissed.
Sexist backlash???
Someone doesn’t know about the “onna-bugeisha” in Japan since 1100s, ignorant, sexist, dip shit
Brownie points.
Hehe
:3732:
The issue is the black samurai
w8, but the pope IS A WIZARD !!!!!!!!!!
also the ammount of Virtue signaling in this video is fucking cringe
Just play the damn game and I promise you will not notice or care in 30 minutes lmao
A Black Samurai already existed in Guilty Gear Strive, way before Assassins Creed LUL, go look at Nagoriyuki
Idk what Nioh he played but William didn't have Wallace as his last name in that game. He's also in Nioh 2 although not a lead role. We have had an assassins creed game in Japan, AC:Chronicles. It wasn't a mainline game so I guess it doesn't count.
I bet this guy's swimming in pussy.
Soy voice detected, opinion rejected
Every Assassin's creed game before had you playing as someone from the ethnicity of the setting except for this. And the Japanese have every right to be offended by them making a black man the lead instead of all the other historical japanese they could have chosen.
I like the brainlet take of "IT'S FANTASY!11!" lol. The best fantasies are still rooted in raw human experience and have cores of realism.
And the amount that they have to change/omit to have a black guy be a samurai in feudal Japan is actually massive compared to what they have to change to have you have a secluded wizard battle with the pope lol
So do we upvote this because the guy that made the video about asmongold is dumb 🤔
I think Blue-eye Samurai on Netflix did the female main character kicks the crap out of a bunch of dudes really well.
I can't lie, mfs in the comments attacking the dude for his voice rather than his argument is crazy lol makes you look mad ignorant
You're filming a screen. What is the AMFV
Discussing the validity of having a black samurai or female protag is completely pointless because that isn't the issue. The issue is that writers are prioritizing moral grandstanding thinly veiled as progressive characters and its divisive and damaging to art we all love. It's like that one episode of community where senor chang is dressed up as a figure skater at a Halloween party asking people who he is and when they guess michelle kwan and kristi yamaguchi he calls them racist and says hes dressed up as peggy fleming.
no Japanese male as main character in a story of feudal Japan... ridiculous.
Rather be sexist than this awful person. I don't get the problem.
Stupid woke moron that contradicts himself in the end... nothing new
I wonder if people would've reacted like this when Nioh came out if it had a black protag
..thankfully it was a white one
The reason everyone is upset is because you damn well know Ubisoft went "Ok we need a minority and the oppressed gender to be the heroes! Look how inclusive and goodie goodie we are, now give us 130$ or you're sexist and racist.🤓" Like what. Africa has such a rich history, ancient civilizations, myths, real conflicts. And yet in their own attempt to appear not racist, they showed that they're actually racist as fuck by completely disregarding several different cultures and doing whatever the fuck this is. Afaik barely anyone minds the lead character being female.
"Even the trailer shows that she cant kill three guys" shows her killing three guys on the trailer
I mean the guy anime youtuber guy has some points but were bashing tom cruz in the last samurai or matt damon in the great wall movies we should be able to call out a black lead in a japan based game.
Team Ninja, a JP dev, made Nioh, so that's a moot point. Now if Team Ninja made a game about a Sub-Saharan African country and it starred one local and one Japanese dude I'd be giving that weird looks too.
Hell Yea! Afro Samurai!!! Let's go!!!!
A black man shouldn’t be the lead for a samurai game. I hope the people giving valid criticism to this keep that same energy when white men are leads in samurai fiction too. Tom Cruise is the Last Samurai, Shogun has a white lead, the Marco Polo show (I know it’s not set in Japan, but Asia nevertheless) has a white lead, Nioh, etc. There should be more Asian male leads, no black washing nor white washing in equal measure. Let Asian men be the heroes of their own setting
its like watching an action movvie that doesnt make sense, it doesnt entertain me, most people say "its an action movie why does it have to make sense" but its insulting my inteligence, good action movies do make sense or try to make sense
Bro is malding out about ya boy Asmon having a different perspective
Never make women or black leads again after this. All they are dei check marks and never feel authentic
According to the Internet
How are you supposed to relate to a black dude, better yet, a WOMAN?! Madness. You could never.
He's pretty on point, people are just grifting on another non controversy. It's just because it's a mainline AC game that has a high chance to be mediocre. If the game is bad Asmong and others will say it's because of "the woke" without looking at anything else. it's easy to shit on AC, but they won't shit on For Honor for having knights and samurai as woman. They didn't say that it was unrealistic that Stellar blade's MC could take on monsters because she's a female. It's just a recent YouTube meta that consists of blowing out of proportion any topic that has a chance of polarising audiences
Yea but the price?
Now now guys, this weeb is telling us the truth from the hours of anime he's watched and gigabytes of NTR he's jacked off to. Obviously he knows more than someone who has been involved in the gaming industry for longer than he's been able to spell "soap".
YOU
FIGHT
THE POPE
AND
HE'S A
WIZARD
So ... He agreed with baldy at the end? Did he even realize he agreed at the end?
Well my guy is defending ubi soft, saying its fantasy anyway, while ubitrash is out there claiming its not.. 🤡
Shit a assassin creed game with samurai woah!!! I loved the spartan theme it was so fun!!! Hopefully this samurai theme will be just as fun!!
Well to be honest he say that woman wouldn't be able to fight 3 trained men fighter but to also be honest it's also pretty hard for a guy to continually doing for multiple fight so yeah it's a video games we characters in it are god compared to reality
I’m almost certain that this kid looks exactly like he sounds.
So I will say that while I understand y'all's point, if there was a similar story of a European dude in like Liberia in the same time period, or like someone else said, a Portuguese man in Russia, I'd be just as interested in that story as well and wouldn't really consider the race an issue
The idea that this is, however loosely, based on a real person in an extremely unique situation is the interesting thing. Not that they are whatever race in whatever country. Could they have picked a thousand other interesting Japanese generals or ninjas or anything else? Absolutely, and I think that would've been sick as hell. But for the time period, and the west's knowledge on the topic, I think this is one of the more interesting people that could've been chosen. There's a reason this story has stuck around this long and has had media referencing it for years and years
If you had to wrangle the name of a Japanese figure from the time out of an American, guarantee you'd get some history buffs with cool ass answers, but mostly Yasuke, if that lol. Granted some other countries have more intense and longstanding history with Japan, so the answers would likely vary elsewhere
I mean they are right that asmon seems to have this weird obsession with "Ah girls cant fight in melee, she could not take on 3 guys" ouh yeah but one male can take on 20 guys and it makes perfect sense and is just bad ass. Every time the thematic of women fighting is even grazed he pops off about it and it does make it look kind of sus.
Also the "its not realistic" argument coming from a guy whos usuall peak fantasy is "Human guy with sword beating gods" is kind of weird as well.
Some of his takes are valid but that is one theme i had noticed with him that i have to give to the haters that he seems weirdly obsessed about.
Here is the thing. I have no problem with women nor any race in particular.
When I buy a videogame, watch a movie, hear a song I am looking for meaning that I can apply, or at least keep in cosideration in my life.
This is not an easy task for any author.. to create a piece that explores a thematic truthfully, and also manages to express it though the form of the medium, whichever it is.
SO when I buy a game that has clear indications that the core message on which they built upon, and all of the effort in terms of content, is directed toward some problematic that is pretty much sorted in my mind, I
feel the piece is redundant. I agree, racism bad, women are equals. Can we move on?
I am sorry , but there are plenty of problems that need discussing, plenty of emotions that need expressing
Honestly I don't see him being wrong about the point where Asmon was doubting the reality of a woman fighting other guys in the game.
We have had female protagonists in AC games before. In Syndicate you can take down an entire group of soldiers just like her twin brother and nobody had a problem with it. In Liberation you play as a black woman who is an Assassin fighting other male soldiers. In Odyssey Cassandra is an equivalent fighter to Alexios. In Valhalla you can play as female Eivor and its fine.
I don't think the whole point of "a girl can't realistically do this in AC games" really stands strong, when yea agreeing with the video the games do have a lot of weird shit going on, with leaps of faith and air assassinations being completely fine for the assassin. Also the game does seem to go for Naoe to focus more on stealth than Yasuke who focuses on combat (which I hope they do make their playstyles different compared to this exact same idea in Syndicate where it didn't matter at all).
So I do agree with the video on the Naoe part, though I am doubtful on Yasuke's justification.
This is the first time we play as an actual historical figure as an assassin (or atleast a warrior here?), which wasn't the case before for the reasons (i assume) to avoid historical inaccuracies with the protagonist. And the first time it happens, it's this controversial of a change. I agree with Asmon on the fact that if his execution is good, it won't matter what his race really is in the long term. But seeing Ubisoft's track record and price tag, it most likely won't be good at all.

At what point do people wake up and realize that nothing matters. Its a game, move on and focus all your energy on something that actually makes a meaningful difference. Holy shit.
Female ninjas, known as kunoichi, were highly trained women in feudal Japan who played important roles in espionage, warfare, and politics.
Not supporting this garbage but it is historical with a stretch.

Yea its a game about slaying mythical demons so they used one of the first white explorers to tie Western alchemy to the supernatural plot that encompasses the surface-level history of Japan during the Sengoku Jidai period.
