If it's wedged, a magnet might not get it, but use it in combo with a piece of copper wire with a small 90° bend on the end to dislodge it, and you're golden.
It might have already been wedged in there by pushing down on it such that a magnet will no longer retrieve it.
I agree a magnet is my first choice, second is needle nose.pliers, I then have some medical forceps and if none of those worked, I would get some very stiff wire or 1/4 quarter inch rod and build a hook to pull up on the bit from the underside, but seriously doubt that it is in there that tight. I have such a tool in my toolbax for installing stiff springs. My final and last resort would be the break to top of the spark plug off, but it is coming out of there. Each step is progressively more aggressive.
Maybe, but this is an extremely obvious one. It would be different if the question was "will a magnet/pliers damage the walls". I can understand how that could be the concern. But it's worded as "I have absolutely no idea how to proceed". This isn't to call them dumb, it's to say they are obviously underprepared.
After this they will absolutely have a magnet, pliers, and compressed air in their bag for the rest of their life like a superstition, and probably never need it again.
I have literally used along with a endoscope camera to look for and get washers i lost while installing my new exhaust on my roadglide. I was pretty sure there was no way they fell in the motor but i had to check. The washer was resting on the frame. I really wish i did not that a second time but i did.
take a long item like a coat hanger using pliers make flat area same size as the end of the bit ...hammer it flat and bend it ..mix up some epoxy .put a dab on the end and let it sit on the bit end ...if it is 5 minute epoxy pull it out in 2 hr's other stuff over night or some two side tape might work depending on how jammed it is .
Walk your self to your closest O Riellys, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts, Harbor Freight, hardware store or your local town's auto shop and pick up a telescopic magnet and fish it out and think about what you've done.
Just drive the car like that to the store and get a long flexible magnet, or if u just take the spark plug out ask the way its not your problem no more
If it's not wedged, maybe a magnet or claw grab tool. If it's wedged (wtf?) I'd grab long needle nose plyers or I'd get a clothes hanger and chop it up then bend a short tail at 90deg to hook under the bit to get it free from the plug, then use a claw grabber, needle nose, or magnet to get it out.
Telescopic magnet and screwdriver. Get the magnet on it then barely push the sparkplug away from the bit. Not enough to break it but enough to make it flex just a tiny bit.
You do have your magnet fishing license, don't you? You can get one at the auto parts store. Same section they sell blinker fluid and muffler bearings.
🤣🤣🤣
Sorry you dropped that bit. The joys of the shade tree mechanic can never be realized until you've done this, dropped your wrench in the hot motor oil catch pan, or accidentally arced a wrench from the positive battery post to chassis. [Edit: all of which I've done this year alone].
Take out the spark plug and push the Torx bit down into the spark plug hole. Reinstall the spark plug and start the engine; the Torx bit will then be blown right out of the tailpipe … easy peasy.
Extra long needle nose pliers, extra long surgical clamp hemostat. The hemostat will allow you to lock it once you've gripped the target. Also, consider a small part 4 prong grabber. A long, flexible one might be your best bet.
I have a pair of tongs that look like a giant set of tweezers. They’re actually a taxidermy tool, but I’ve never used them for that purpose. They’re great for stuff like this.
Years ago I ate a loot and started to get heavy, so I started eating with chopsticks to slow me down. I got really good at eating with chopsticks. I could get that out easy. Be careful of magnets around steel of you may lose the magnet.
Im taking you, tried a magnetic pickup tool. Tape a funnel on the ead of your shop vac hose. then stick a small hone on the funnel tip. Clean out the shop vacuum first.
There are a lot of ready bought solutions for pick up tools, both magnets, and some claw based creations that could work, quick trip to the hardware store should get you your fill of solutions .
Just go to autozone, advance or Walmart and buy one of those telescoping magnets. They are a must have for “when stupid shit in life happens” such as your current predicament.
You can magnetize metal rods or maybe a screwdriver with a magnet. Something metal that reaches- magnetize it and screw will stick and you can pull out
Magnet? Really long needle nose? Compressed air?
