Some mild fireworks and events or is everyone out and about and rocking Canadian flag stuff?
They celebrate by tossing a shit ton of garbage on the street and moving houses by bicycle
Lmao if you point this out in /r/Canada people lose their shit for some reason
They lost their shit on you lol
Yup!!
Did they go hard for St Jean Baptiste?
Of course
nothing out of the ordinary.
Bad weather,
The 2 traditional shows in Québec and Montréal and a small Parade.
Zero fucks given
I saw someone with a Canadian flag headband lol
Technically, there are some festivities probably worth seeing. About 90% of the total federal budget for Canada Day is spent in the province of Quebec since the last sovereignty referendum (1995). We could use that money instead of the perequation since they are trying so hard to suck us off.
french white colonizers so...
English white colonizers?... I don't see the difference?
duh, white english too.
We lost our colonizer status the day we were colonized. Period.
Try tell this to First Nations in Quebec lmao.
Ottawa is buzzing. Beautiful day as well. Blessed
Downtown and even Barrhaven was crazy
Sick baby and toddler so we had a chill day.
Maybe next year they won't be sick and we can take them to some fun stuff.
It's one of the best perks for living here, Canada day.
What’s with everyone getting sick in Ottawa. I just got better recently.
New bout of COVID going around? Idk. That's what hit our house.
Spring allergy season was miserable though, that's for sure.
Nice flyovers. Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Ottawa IS buzzing today and everywhere! I love it! Happy Canada Day everyone! 🇨🇦♥️
Ottawa used to be crazy back in the day on canada day
Just wish they could figure out the bridge situation. Took me 3 hours to cross island park coming back from camping in quebec
We cancelled it due to the weather
Halifax : about as hard as Al Pacino without a little blue pill.
In Victoria it's huge with a shit ton of visitors from the mainland
Love the scene in front of the Empress. So many memories. Pro tip: alcoholic fruit salad.
Winnipeg: Canada Day might as well been yesterday because today's wather is only suitable for cranking a movie and ordering hot dogs (you thought I was gonna order pizza?)
I mean, Pizzaland is open.
fuck pizzaland if I'm buying pizza I'm getting little caesars or costco.
Can confirm but now I want pizza
Meh just do a sandwich like I did. I have some walmart croissants that you could very well eat alone.
Add some chicken breast, genoa, swiss cheese and a bit of olive oil and you could very well sell those for 13.50 a piece at any hipster cafe downtown.
fireworks cancelled in my city
Vancouver?? LOL
Can't be. In order for the fireworks to be cancelled, there had to be a reasonable chance of having them in the first place.
That’s the joke ya hozer
I live right next to a native reservation not very hard lol
I don't know, im gaming right now
I live in the West Island of Montréal (the Anglo side of Montréal) and there’s a big festival and a lot of festivities here. Also, there’s going to be a big show and some fireworks tonight. I think the Franco side of Montréal is less into Canada Day…
I’m in Laval, a very diverse part of it. Not sure if anything is happening.
When I was younger (before marriage and kids) I’d always celebrate at the old port and then on the weekend before or after I’d host a super fun BBQ party. More often than not, most people would end up sleeping over 🇨🇦❤️🤍❤️🇨🇦
That’s sooooo fun!!! My parents were doing something similar for the Canada Day weekend when I was young! We had a “ruelle”. Everyone in the “ruelle” was invited and anyone who wanted to join was invited too! And everyone was staying for the whole weekend. People were crashing in everyone’s houses and children were sleeping in the wrong houses with their friends, it was so fun!
Awe sounds like you have some amazing memories.
It makes me sad my kids don’t get to celebrate at the Old Port like I did. But when they are old enough, maybe they can celebrate at home with their friends like I did. Hopefully celebrating Canada Day won’t become illegal here, lol 🙄
Omg!!! Please no!!! 😫🙄
Happy Canada Day !!!!❤️but why the Franco side of Montréal is less into Canada Day…??
Because they know the history of their country and that most major changes in it were made in some form to assimilate them or diminish their relative power.
Here's a good read for you. It's google translated from French, so some language mistakes may be present.
Thanks for your help..
French-Canadians don't see themselves as Canadian in the same way we do.
They're Canadian in that they were born here and are citizens but their cultural identity is different enough that many of them - not all, but I would say most, don't take pride in a lot of Canadian things. They're similar to conservatives in that way.
Lol rien pantoute à ce que je sache. Y'avait une parade organisée par un dude pis finalement il a manqué d'argent.
Le gouvernement est assez gentil de nous donné une journée de congé payé pour déménager, une parade c'est un peu excessif.
Reddit really needs to catch up on in-app comment translation. ffs.
Pourquoi? Tout le monde n'apprend pas les 2 langues officielles au Canada?
Nope. Immigrant who speaks Spanish & English.
And if I ever learn French you bet I'm hitting all the Resident Advisor event list down at Montreal. Beautiful electronic music scene over there.
Bueno, !te deseo aprenderlo bien! Estas fácil traducir linguas con útiles en línea. No hay necesidad que todos los sitios o las apps hacen toto per te sin ningún esfuerzo.

Maybe you should be using those "útiles" too bud.
Excuse-moi si je suis moins habile dans ma sixième langue que toi dans ta langue maternelle, l'ami.
French speaking here, ill translate!
Lol nothing at all for what i know. There Was A Parade organised by a dude and it ended because he ran out of money.
(Im not 100% english so some errors are expected, but its around this.)
Considering we only have about two thousand people, our celebrations are quite big. There are free bouncy castles and slides for the kids, tons of food, karaoke and live music, free cake, a great firework show and other cool stuff. The town always goes over and above for family friendly events.
Military fly by, snowbirds fly by, fireworks, everyone in a variation of red and white, lots of flags and music. In a cool section of Ottawa.
Note: the fireworks will essentially be next door
Wish Ottawa had more attractions like street performers, rides and carnival games, rcmps on their horses for a show, a freakin moose taxidermy to take pics with?
We have makeup for kids, an f-18 jet cockpit demo for kids, a necklace making hut for kids.... I mean...
Pretty good. We have Big Wreck headlining our entertainment tonight leading into the fireworks.
Also, the riverfront park downtown has lots of events and market stalls and food trucks. Lots to do that’s all mostly free.
I want to hear!! BW
Same for my city here in BC except they cancelled fireworks and are having a drone light show instead. And chances are the music isn’t anyone you’ve heard of.
Vancouver cancelled Canada Day fireworks because it is expensive and they believe it is offensive to the natives. Two excuses to cover their bases.
https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canada-day-vancouver-fireworks-cancelled-permanently
East York (in Toronto) is having a grand time at their annual event. Nice weather, sunny with a light breeze; lots of people, well spread out. Parade earlier, and the band that was onstage when I popped by was good. Plenty of vendors (food and other stuff) and games doing brisk business, the play area was packed, and lots of folks just hanging out in the shade. Nice mix of ages from babes in arms (or strollers) to retirees. Fireworks at 10 pm tonight.
You mean moving day?
A wild day in Québec for sure.
Boomin with trucks.
I live in Ottawa, our wonderful country’s capital city, so pretty hard.
It was pretty packed in my area. Went out to get fish & chips and there was lots going on. Liquor store was even open
Saskatoon- it doesn’t go very hard, we have a park with Canada Day celebrations by the river that’s pretty busy, live music, vendors, beer gardens, fair games etc. but you’re average home isn’t having massive BBQ’s and keg parties, not very many Canadian flags out on peoples lawns. It’s pretty much just concentrated to Diefenbaker Park.
There's a bunch of stuff going on at river landing right now
London UK is the city that fun forgot.
9 years ago they had a huge bash when (former Vancouver mayor and former Premier of BC) Gordon Campbell opened the doors to Canada House at Trafalgar Square and had beer and wings and cake for those lucky enough to score free tix.
These days, it’s just localised festivities run by various expat Canuck groups.
I had to work today and my (🇬🇧born but dual citizen 🇨🇦) kid (8F) had to go to school so there was no fun to be had this evening (UK schools have 2.5 more weeks to go before summer holidays)… I did wish the parent in Daughter’s class who has family in Canada a Happy Canada Day and as soon as I post this I need to go and WhatsApp my “brother from another mother” here in London (we grew up together in Vancouver) and his son and wish them HCD.
There was a huge Canada Day festival in London at Trafalgar Square yesterday. Thousands of people attended
Puts on lipstick: "Ya I'd go for Canada day, I'd go so hard."
You're my people.
Halifax everything rained out except the pancake breakfast lol
Nothing except dodging mattresses on the road
- My city has cancelled all Canada stuff. Last year was just fireworks. Now it’s nothing.
I read that a Canada DRY at first and thought “well I guess my city likes ginger ale, but I wouldn’t describe it as hard”
There isn't a single Canadian flag, no one mentioned it at all. It's just a day where some of us don't work.
Giant 3-day waterfront festival with fireworks tonight over the beach.
Mine does pretty good, i guess. I’m not a people person or market fan. So I stay home.
In Windsor, I know we had a parade which lasted about an hour and most stores are closed. That is all I know of
Hamilton goes all the way.
Until you wanna go to the fireworks, or home afterwards, with the Shuttle buses. HSR website says last bus leaves at 9:00 pm! Say what?
They do a parade and there's some carnival games and gambling games and people are out doing things and fireworks at night
Here in Sudbury, ON, there's usually a big celebration at Bell Park, capped off with a fireworks show. This year, it's a drone show, I'm pretty excited! (Assuming I can stay up that late, I'm old, haha!)
We have a concert and fireworks
We have a little do down by the river with bands and fireworks. It's fine but I don't do crowds well so I can't.
This year they have a band I like but we were out partying a touch too hearty last night 🌃. My liver needs a rest 🤕 and ,you know, crowds 🤒.
Guelph, nothing happening. Rotary club used to host fireworks but they didn’t have the volunteer support to do so this year and for some reason the city didn’t step up to do anything 🤷🏻♀️ so nothing happening. Lots of people out enjoying the day though.
Virtually no effort
Virtually no effort
Fruit salad a la vodka 😋 great tip
Niagara Falls. The usual for here.
Not even fireworks in my town tonight
I've been outside watching the Snow Birds doing their thing. I haven't seen them in years. Brought out the inner kid in me. :)
Stony plain AB checking in. Annual car show on point and packed!
Rock.
Small town, literally.. nothing
David Wilcox hard
I live in downtown Ottawa. It's pretty wild here
Anemic fairground celebration
Well we never have busses running for Canada day, so not very freaking hard!
Winnipeg MB.
Businesses go hard, city/govt planned celebrations are pretty boring now. Ffs I think my local Cabela's/Bass Pro was decked out in more Canadian flags and decorations than City Hall.
Govt groups decided that we need to actually make this day about reconciliation, so instead of fireworks and big events we get indigenous story time, music, and drone shows (not horrible, it's just not Canada Day celebrations if it's focused on only one group). So attendance dropped like a brick and they've started pulling back a bit but not much progress so far.
Instead of that, private businesses jumped on the opportunity and now host giant Canada Day festivals with fireworks, food, live music, etc. All the usual stuff, they then charge a few bucks admission and also get people down into their area spending money so it's benefits them as well as providing a good show for the people.
Unfortunately this year we have rain all day but a lot of stuff should still be going on despite that.
I been making bbq brisket since 5 am pst. Aloo gobi samosas with plum sauce for the dip. Cornbread, coleslaw Mac n cheese n chicken wings. Love this country.
Seems like the former for Kelowna. I was out driving doing some errands and there didn't seem to be a big showing. Unfortunate. I was looking forward to my first Canada day as a resident.
We have a rodeo all weekend here!
I live in Pennsylvania, so not too hard at all. My wife usually puts out the flag though.
My town used to do lots
Rodeos, festivals, car shows, demolition derbys, fireworks and parade..
Now it's a little parade that completely shuts down the town thanks to the new route crossing every choke point... And since the fire department ran off everyone qualified.. no fireworks
Well, it’s a sunny Monday here with no school. That’s about it tho
I'm just outside of London Ontario. My town doesn't go too crazy, usually some venders and fireworks at the park. The same at a bunch of the smaller towns nearby.
Ten min outside of Calgary. Sky is black. She done for. Haha
Edmonton's fireworks are always amazing!
All we got was a couple of food trucks and some bouncy castles in a truck… Last year we did have horse shows and some falconry, got disappointed to see they weren’t here this year.
I just came from the downtown area. Huge party at city hall, library, mall parking lot. Like 20 or 25 food trucks, everything with halal options.
Some musicians I’ve never heard of. Ambulance, portapotties, police on site. Splash pool. I’m not good at estimating, but it felt like thousands of ppl were there.
in toronto most people do not give a fuck lol. everyones out of town.
Chillwacks doing a huge drone show instead of fireworks. Lots if people going just cause it's a new thing. Should be fun.
Montreal, I was at my MIL for a bbq because it’s also her bday. I know we didn’t have a parade this year. I don’t think there was anything going on.
Cranbrook BC who knows but there should be fireworks at about 11pm cause light until 10:30pm. Luckily I can see it from my house
Hamilton will be rocking down by the bay front and there will be plenty of local fireworks displays. Other than that, just a normal Monday.
So hard that most all the small towns in the area have stopped putting on a fireworks display because people complain their pets get scared. I do understand that pets are scared but dear god, the preemptive whining started months ago!
Kamloops, -10000
where i live in my little city starting at 5 we go to a field with everyone has the Canada flag everyone is wearing red and Canada stuff there is 135 thousand people in the town about 5 thousand go to this field it is so all out there is a ax throwing station a huge rock climbing wall and then at 10:00 there is a crazy impressive firework show that goes on till 11:00 it has so much and even after there are fireworks every wear from Monday night till Tuesday night there are fireworks there a a suprising amount in the day to.
Edmonton fireworks are the best anywhere
Surrey here. Currently sitting in the park down the street from where I live with 10s of thousands of people listening to Sass Jordan followed by The Sheepdogs and then fireworks. Every race, culture, gender, age here - having a blast. Happy Canada day folks.
Full Boner
Hard up the ass!
Brampton banned fireworks because non-canadians went too hard last year during Diwali. Makes sense.
We don’t get fireworks anymore because some asshole hit a baby in a stroller while impaired at the site our city holds fireworks at
Unless you consider a Lions Club pancake breakfast "going hard", then my town is the opposite of hard.
lol my city cancelled the parade and fireworks at 10am bc it rained hard for an hour, then was fine the rest of the day
Looking at the promo materials/advertisements, you'd think it was gay-pride day coming up... jus sayin.
Niagara falls, us locals we flee.
This Year In Montreal, It Was Supposed To Be 30 Minutes For The Fireworks, 10 MINUTES INSTEAD. I was devestated.
A but late to your post but it just popped up on my feed now lol
My county in Nova Scotia does almost a full week of events leading up to the day including: ice cream socials, car shows, pageants etc. Culminates on Canada Day with concerts, the fair going full swing, a parade, barbeques and cap the day off with a fireworks show!
Keep in mind we are a semi rural county but there's like like 45k in total for the county population.
No idea. I don’t go out on long weekends
Beats me. I’m finally done teaching for the year and usually spend it recuperating from high school trauma.
Not too hard There’s a reason though
https://www.cnn.com/travel/what-is-canada-day-history-celebrations/index.html
Saint-Sauveur des Monts : erectile dysfunction
Morin Heights : Hard-On
I live in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and not that hard at all.
Mostly cancelled because of rain. Big focus on Every Child Matters with orange colours, and most of the events are just small community ones that really feel more like community event.
Personally I think that the day can be about recognizing the good in Canada, while also acknowledging the past and reflecting on how things can be made better going forward. It's ok to wear red, orange, display a maple leaf or better yet a combination of all those things. If you have an issue with one side or the other, go frig off.
My city ( Toronto ) doesn’t at all. It’s considered innappropriate to have Canadian Pride after the whole Indigenous child graves which turned out to be not real, but most people don’t know that the ones they have dug up turned out to be nothing. You will be verbally attacked by people for celebrating.
Calgary: only inmigrants and tourist give a fuck about this.
All Canada Day events were cancelled in my city close to Montreal. But all events for St Jean were doubled
Frankly , IDGAF because I spend it with people I love
1hr long Parade, music festival and fireworks. Peterborough, Ontario.
My city is the No Fun City.
City that fun forgot was insane today
I love fireworks too much to be happy with any Canada day celebration without them. ;-; gotta wait for the festival of lights.
Wait is it Canada Day?
They do 10 minutes of fireworks at 11pm and a crap live music performance from 6pm-fireworks.
Toronto 2/10. Pride is the big one, as it should be.
Can anyone afford to celebrate this tax slave nation?
The events are free ding Dong
Montréal : zéro hard
