The greatest plot twist in an 80’s comedy
He loves to run, and run, and run, and run
*ruprecht dancing around in circles like a moron, hitting pots with a metal spoon
It makes me laugh every time I see it.
You’ve been banging on your pots again, haven’t you?
"Ruprecht! Don't make me get the genital cuff!"
May I go to the bathroom?
Thank you.
I remember laughing so hard at this line.
watched it again with my wife recently and we both had seen it but both cried laughing at that scene. Cork on the fork
When i first watched it i was kinda young so it took me a second then i laughed so hard i almost peed myself.
That would've made two of you! 😁
Next scam "he's a mute"
This. Only this.
Why is the cork on the fork?
To prevent him hurting himself.
And others
One of greatest comedies
I absolutely love this movie!! And you get emperor Palpatine !!! The fake flower switch is just too much and the end with the shock on their faces when Janet shows up with a boat load then the Australian accent 👌 I might just watch in a little bit … I have some free time, bag of pretzels and some soda and I just pressed myself some space age cake it’s gonna be a good day!!
I love how Janet takes charge. So charming. All of them are top notch comedy in any role.
I thought it was more of a Long Island accent.
It was. Lawrence, aka “Chips O’Toole” quickly adopted a fake Australian accent. “Unfortunately, Randy is a mute.”
Thanks. Thought I was crazy there for a minute.
Not Mother?
"Do you want the gential cuffs?"
"Do you feel zis?" LOL
🤣🤣🤣 That's my favorite scene.
Steve Martin’s facial expressions are so good in this. I love earlier when Janet first announces “Dr. Emil Schufhausen!”
mine too. one of the funniest scenes of all time in any movie, imo.
He’s so happy he’s crying!
Ruprecht!
"Ruprecht the Monkey Boy"
Just watched this a couple weeks ago. Seen it many times, one of my favorite comedies. Michael Caine deserved an Oscar. When he switches to a Aussie in that last scene it’s absolutely brilliant. RIP Glenne Headly.
I always hoped they would make another.
It’s crazy that she passed away before Steve Martin and Michael Caine. She’s been gone seven years already.
If you keep banging your pots, you won't have any pots to bag.
My I take your trident, Sir?
Dont take the cork off the fork
Do you want the genital cuff?
“Just look at him…. He’s so happy he’s crying!!”
One of my all time favorite movie scenes.
So well done. I think I watched that movie 20 times growing up because my parents had the VHS and I just thought it was hilarious as a teenager. I've seen it again recently and only now do I appreciate just how good it is overall.
Same. Wore that poor tape out!
This was the first VHS I bought with my own money when we got a VCR. The next one was Field of Dreams when they were selling the VHS at McDonald's which seems like an alternate universe but I swear it's true.
Selling VHS tapes at a McDonald's? Wow, that's a new one on me. 😆
Field of Dreams...best baseball movie ever. Have that on DVD now because it's a necessity.
Here is a full list! https://m.imdb.com/list/ls093465593/
Anybody can say Michael Caine’s name just like he does by saying “my cocaine”
J.... Jackal. J.... Janet. It's pretty obvious when you think about it.
"Excuse me, may I go to the bathroom first?"
"Of course you may."
(Pause.) "Thank you."
This is one of my all time favorite comedies. Has anyone seen the remake with Anne Hathaway? God awful.
Yeah, I didn't like it either. Did you know Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is also a remake?
Bedtime Story 1964. David Niven, Marlon Brando.
There was a remake??
Sounds like a terrible idea.
Frank Oz directed this!?
Yes, directed this, he did
Why is cork on the fork? Lol my brother and I used to watch this all the time growing up
Safety
I got this DVD in a kids Happy Meal. Watched TF out of it. Classic.
What a great film, but watching it only makes me miss Glenne Headly all the more.
She was gone far too soon.
Not only was she excellent in this, but not enough credit is given to her “character”. She, as “The Jackal”, immediately recognized these two as con artists, played along BRILLIANTLY all the while scheming on her own plan to dupe them of their 50k… just a masterful stroke of genius on her part!!
Made my 7 year old watch this me. And three amigos. Good times...you son of a motherless goat.
When we first met, my wife and I bonded over mutual love of this movie.
They’re DANCING!
And; Oi, mate, who’s the arsehole? 🤣
One of my favorite comedies of all time. Ruprecht!
Palpatine is in this
Somehow he returned.
Yesss
Best movie ever
You dirty… rotten… scoundrel!
When I saw this in theaters I was disappointed because it wasn't the slapstick laugh riot I was expecting with Martin. Then I saw it on home video a while later and really appreciated it. It's a well made con comedy with some fantastic actors and an underappreciated director. It's no The Sting but it's really good.
I’m 13 and I saw this for the first time a few months back and COULD NOT stop laughing, how old were you when you saw it first, the appreciation levels might have to do with age…
Different time periods. In the 80's around this movie comedies were mostly of the manic, absurd variety and Martin wasn't far removed from The Jerk and his stand up. Oz was brand new as a director as well.
Oh so like Airplane, Drop Dead Fred, and Naked Gun, makes sense.
Also, if you like Frank Oz’s movies, check out Housesitter (1993), that is excellent.
Yes, and also What About Bob? (1991). Frank Oz gave us some of the most hilarious movies ever made!
"May I please go to the bathroom?"
And yet, there was an early scene that pointed to exactly what going on and gave everything away. People completely missed it. When Glenn Headly’s character first appeared she faked stumbling then looked around with a sly smirk.
Last year I made over $2million but your $50,000 was the most fun
Ruprect.
Love this movie wife and I watch it two or three times a year easily. And as many times as I have seen this movie, I still cannot fathom at what point did she swap the money and the clothes in the bag that Lawrence gave her? She clearly hands him HIS bag back but now Freddy’s clothes are there and she’s off with the money
Thank you.
Ghost Busters-Stay-Puff marshmallow man.
What about Spanish Prisoner?
Underrated gem
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and What About Bob are two of my favorite comedies; both directed by Frank Oz who also happens to be the voice of Yoda.
And Miss Piggy. And Grover. And Cookie Monster. And Fozzie Bear. And Animal.
Janet- J.... Jackel
This was a remake, the original with David Niven and Marlon Brando “Bedtime Story” (1964) was better, though the chick in this one was hotter. lol.
I always loved that movie, Steve Martin was hilarious
God this movie is good.
McDonalds had a free giveaway for this VHS movie.....
Funny movie
Great movie.
This! I want this!!
Do you mind if I go to the bathroom?……..🥴thank you
"May I go to the bathroom?"
Rupert going pee at the dinner table was the funniest thing I’d ever seen when I was 10.
”What did we do when Uncle Tony came to visit?”
A true comedy. A rarity nowadays. Both Steve Martin and Michael Caine are fantastic. A really underrated film.
Just watched this a day ago. Still holds
This is Ruptecht. He's a mute
This was my late father’s favorite movie by a wide margin.
Not mother?
Your trident, sir.
look, he's so happy he's crying!
This is one of my all time favorite movies.
THE BEST MOVIE EVER. NO VIOLENCE. NO SEX SCENES. JUST PURE FUN TO WATCH. MOM
I love when Michael Cain is whipping Steve Martin in the legs when he's pretending to be handicapped.
Love this. When he runs at him with the cane and smacks him got me laughing so hard
I just looked at the poster and realized that Frank Oz from the Muppets wrote the film
NOT Mother??
“OKLAHOMAOKLAHOMAOKLAHOMAOKLAHOMA”
This was my shit might check it out again
“Why does he have a cork on his fork?”
Rupert...
One of the funniest movies i ever saw!
I still have my VHS copy that I got as part of a McDonald's promotion
This flick was a gem.
"May I go wee now?"
Janet, the Jackal.
This movie is top tier. Smart, funny, and cool. It’s like Sabrina as a comedy sketch.
"...The Third!"
LOVED this when I first saw it as a kid. Brilliant brilliant movie still.
Giving them what they want!
Sleep away Camp 😂
Mr. Australia himself, Chips O'Toole.
I’ve got culture coming out of my ass.
Ace Ventura was 1994
Steve Martin is pitching for Wells Fargo, a truly evil and soulless criminal corporation. Used to think highly of the guy, but I guess he had his price.
Thanks for fighting evil on the internet /s
Trading Places
The plot twist is literally in the title
Oklahomaaaaa
