39.4 cm (15.5 inches) Aloy Forbidden West in PLA, what color should I paint this statue? Bronze? Gold?
QuestionIt's the Bambu X1 Carbon, it just prints crisp by default compared to my Creality Ender 3 V3 KE printer which shows tons of layer lines....
And I thought my ender 3 max neo was good
This thing is huge, zoom in.
It helps being so big as well. That is basically 40cm tall, or 15.7 inches
Now go back and remove all the strings and sand everything you can smooth. Then paint it black, then spray white from above so it has a fake lighting effect (look up zenithol highlight) then thin your paints with water (if theyβre cheap acrylics) and let the zenithol highlight do the work to make it look good
Nvm I saw your wall of paints, I trust you lmao
Super well done, lot of detail in it for pla. what layer size/nozzle did you use?
Layer height is default on my Bambu Slicer, I think 0.2 mm and printed with a 0.4 nozzle
You got that out of a 0.4 nozzle? Wow! It looks great. Were the supports soluble material?
Are these resin printer supports?
Yeah, it's supposed to be for Resin... But I printed it in PLA.... π
How? It's really well made
Yeah, surprised by the PLA print.
I use thick coats of primer and paint to hide inconsistencies
Mind to share the stl files?
Unfortunately I can't share it as I'm not the artist but I can tell u where to get it...
Thank you
I vote bronze
Hit it with a matte base coat and dry brush your metallics on. Darker colours and build to lighter. You could do an ink wash too. Bronze is pretty classic
What's with all the Army Painter bottles, if you don't know how to paint miniatures?
I bought them to prepare to learn to paint.... Paint booth, paint, brushes, air brush.... Was planning to watch some YouTube videos or read up on how to paint but haven't attempted just yet....
Whelp, now's the time to learn! It's not that hard. Especially with such a big model to work with.
Yup, might have to wing it and learn as I go.... π
Important notes,
It looks like you took all the paint out of the box, so you may longer have the instructions to mix it. First shake just a bit, then let out the top medium, then shake heavily.
Instructions you find online will likely mention to thin the paint, but I'd look up for your specific line of paint how much thinning is recommended, and start with that, and follow some videos on how to check of its thinned to a good consistency. I assume you went with either the warpaints line or speed paints line (I can't tell from the picture). I don't think you are supposed to thin speedpaints at all and maybe only a small amount for the warpaints (I don't know exact ratios, so this is where you should research it). The fanatics line is the one where thinning is most important, so if you have that line, absolutely research it first.
If you haven't already bought brushes, I'd research ones people recommend specifically for miniatures. As far as I remember Army Painter will provide you one for the extremely fine details though.
You already knew to prime it first, but also after you paint it, use washes to add shading. They are the bottles with the red caps. You probably only got the most basic wash tones with the kit, but those should work plenty fine and will already add plenty of details you will be pleased with afterwards.
I think I bought two sets, one of each. Thanks for the tip. I just been 3D printing, scared to paint the figures...
Didn't add enough skills points to painting /s
Dry brushing on FDM prints doesn't look pretty.
Agreed unless you have a nice base coat.
honestly i would replicate her look from the game and have it more as a collectible that could haven been in some collectors edition than just a statue. But very sick would love to print one myself.
IS THAT A r/BenchyForScale
Thought that this was a dlp print when I first saw it, such a nice surface finish!! great work :)
look like resin print, nice work
Since she is not comfortable with being worshipped, I'd stay with black.
ππ€£
Dang. That looks great.
I think you should paint it more detailed, like the game. One color over all is..... blah
How do you deal with the support interface texture? Wherever my supports are on a model, the texture where the support meets the model is hideous.
How long did support material removal take?
Not long... Probably a good 5 minutes chipping away with pliers lol
I'm looking to buy the same model from the artist, it says it's optimized for resin printing. Did you have to alter it at all to get it to work on your x1c? I also want to print it on my x1c
I know it's for resin but I wanted to try it in FDM filament.. So I threw the files onto Bambu Slicer without any modifications and this is how it turned out.
Gold, or electro plate it!
Don't paint it, weather and tarnish it. Patina.
Can I ask how do you get your printer to print so crisp.
