Hey I DMed you but will also post here. I have some glacier travel experience and am also pretty motivated, if you're open to others joining the team I'd be pretty interested.

Looking for 1-2 partners in the NYC area for climbing rainier self-guided this summer!

I'm looking to climb rainier this summer, likely around the end of july but that might change based on the group. I currently have one friend who is also interested in coming. Some details:

About me: besides a lot of traditional hiking/backpacking, I've done a mountaineering course on mount baker, climbed mount washington and mount adams in NH in the winter, and have climbed multiple 14'ers in colorado. I'd also describe myself as fun but thoughtful in the mountains. I care a lot about preparedness and being safe.

About my friend: same as me but has done a lot more winter hiking/mountaineering/ice-climbing, and did a 2 week course on a glacier in Alaska.

About the trip: We want to do a self-guided trip, either up the DC route or emmons depending on conditions and how the team feels in terms of preparedness.

About you: we're looking for someone who is in shape and has some experience in winter hiking/mountaineering. You don't need to be an expert in crevasse rescue (as of right now), but we also don't want someone who has never worn crampons before.

If you're at all interested or curious to learn more, please send me a DM and we'll chat!

I’m not wearing a woman’s size but that’s a good idea! I’ll see if they’re available. I definitely like the construction of these gloves and it feels like a good warmth to dexterity ratio so I’m hoping I can find a way to make it work.

EDIT: Looks like it’s unisex unfortunately

Are my Rab Guide 2 gloves too big?

I’ve read a lot of really good reviews for the Rab Guide 2 glove, so I bought a small and medium to try on. With the small size, if I pull the glove down over my hand as far as it can go, theres still 0.5 - 1 inch of space between my fingertips and the end of end of the glove.

I know for warmth it’s better to have more space rather than less, but usually I’ll just pull my gloves down a bit to make more space when I don’t need the dexterity and then pull them up briefly when I need to use my hands.

As an experiment I tried to zip up my puffy with the gloves on and really struggled. Admittedly my puffy zipper is very small and I struggle a bit with better fitting gloves as well.

Am I right in thinking the Guide 2 aren’t for me? Any other suggestions for a similar glove with smaller fingers?

Look into null-ls, it's essentially an adapter between neovim's LSP functionality and other tools

Absolutely, if you're ever planning a trip, let me know and I'll see if we can sync up!

Thanks for the response! Yeah I do have some connections from my previous baker trip that I'm trying to leverage, but want to cast as wide as net as possible.

Looking for motivated climbers in New England for a 2022 Mount Rainier trip

Hi everyone, I'm based out of Boston and am hoping to do a trip in the summer of 2022 to Rainier. I'd like to take the Emmons route unguided.

My current experience:

  • Lots of experience backpacking in summer time. Have climbed Mount Washington (NH), Khatadin (Maine), Marcy (NY), and more before, so no stranger to long days and heavy packs.
  • Ascent of Mount Washington and Mount Adams (White Mountains) in winter, unguided.
  • 5 day mountaineering course on Mount Baker, where we learned how to use crampons, ice axes, crevasse rescue, etc.

Ideally, I'm looking for people who are:

  • Local to New England, so that we can practice together a few times this winter in the Whites.
  • More experienced than me! If I'm the most experienced person in the team, I might opt for an easier objective, maybe Shasta or Baker, since I haven't been in big glaciated mountains unguided before.

If this sounds interesting to you, send me a DM!

Good to know. If this doesn't go in the next few months and I start lowering the price, I'll let you know.

I haven't looked at other prices in my area, truthfully I think this bus is kind of unique so I'm pricing what I think is fair.

It could totally be that this price is too high, in which case I'll gradually lower it over time. But there are a few reasons I think this is worth the price:

  • There is no rust on this bus. Most buses require serious work to de-rust it, or even replace the metal frame, which is expensive in terms of time and cost.
  • This bus has the passenger/copilot seat, which is very hard to find, and also very in demand for couples.
  • The bus has one of the best diesel engines ever made, much better than the newer engines from the last 20 years.
  • This bus has no mechanical or electrical issues. It just works.

Due to a change in life circumstances, I can no longer work on my shuttle bus conversion project. I've already put a good amount of time/money into it, but I hope my loss can be someone's dream come true!

Vehicle

  • 2002 E450 SuperDuty
  • Roughly 25 feet bumper to bumper.
  • Extremely rare copilot/passenger seat! This was super hard for us to find!
  • 99% rust-free, both inside and outside, astonishingly so.

Engine

  • 7.3L Powerstroke, one of the best diesel engines Ford ever made.
  • 190k miles, so easily 200k miles left.
  • I had an experienced mechanic do a 3 hour inspection of everything (engine, transmission, chassis, etc), and had no issues found.

Improvements Made

  • Backup camera installed.
  • New radio head unit installed with LCD touch screen and bluetooth.
  • New primary engine battery ($112)
  • 4 new rear tires ($1000)
  • 1 new rear rim/wheel ($200)
  • Completely removed all seats and everything else inside.
  • Coated 80% of the exposed metal on the inside with POR15.
  • 80% completed the framing for the floor.

Other

  • I'm based in Boston, MA.
  • If you're interested, please DM me with your email or phone number.

Thanks for the heads up! I've heard good things about Gramps, but didn't really get a sense for the music style. I also heard that Anderson and No 3 Social could be good spots, have you been before?

Where's the bumping disco bar in the Miami area?!Arts and Culture

Title says it all, I'm looking to get groovey to some old-school dance beats. Is there such a spot anywhere in the Miami/Miami Beach/Fort Lauderdale area?

I'm in the same boat. I ended my relationship 2 weeks ago, and the months of focusing on the bad parts have been replaced with me feeling guilt, shame, and fear of ruining something incredible.

The way I'm trying to convince myself I did the right thing and forgive myself for it is to tell myself that for the right person, I would have worked harder. That the fact I called it quits is itself the evidence that it wasn't the right relationship. I hope it's true.
