I get a similar rattle/noise when I first start but it goes away after warmed. I’ve also conditioned myself to leave a slight toe pressure on it it keep it from happening/make myself think it’s contacted enough to not lose it

I once had a bike dump a ton of gas in and had no idea til I ran it and it was shooting oil/gas mixture out the exhaust painting everything behind it.

I think I drained and did an oil change with cheap Walmart oil, ran it a bit to ‘wash’ everything and did another oil change. Never encountered any complications from it to my knowledge.

Had happened a couple other times after that but manually shutting the petcock to the off position is a standard practice for me now so I don’t do again.

For the possible reasons why; stuck float, bad float level, bad seat on needle would be where I’d look

Could try to bump up the pump shot. I had similar issue. Would crank and crank and get lucky for a start. Figured the residual gas in carb would evaporate (Texas heat). Dropped an electric fuel pump right after the tank to push fuel and haven’t had trouble since.

I turn it on, it pushes gas to carb, give a couple pumps and she’s good to go

Gaskets deteriorate over time. Check those. Bowl gaskets and the T fuel lines imo

All will work, rock wool needs extra care so you don’t drown plants when they’re starting imo. Rapid rooters hard to fuck up. Idk about pool noodles but in theory I suppose once you have enough plant / root area should work

Manual has it where you have the boots mounted on the block and then you line up and push the carbs on. The number of the cylinder will face up for the corresponding cylinder/boot

My tips would be be lube up the inside of the boots and the rim of the carb. If your rubber is hard hit it with a heat gun to soften a tad and then line up the bottom of the carb and try to get bottom seated then wiggle, rock, push and curse

Some pro tips out there that I’ve tried are to get a ratchet strap looped around the front of the frame and a 2*4 across the carb intakes and crank the straps to give steady pressure pulling it forward.

Also, put the hose clamps on with screw facing outward for 1/2 and 3/4 BEFORE you push the carbs on
