Cultural evidence: The village isn’t part of our country anymore, if it ever really was, which I doubt. The puritanical Western Europeans who founded this country (after slaughtering all native people) built this country on ideals that prioritized individual over society. They carried over those ideals from their home countries. Western Europe culture is known to prioritize the individual over the good of others.
The cultures/societies that idolize their elders tend to prioritize society over the individual, these cultures are the “village.”
Narrative evidence: A friend of mine who grew up in Mexico tells me that neighbors and family members are constantly out in their yards, or going to their sisters friends baby shower, or going to the store together, or hanging out at someone’s house. We live in rural texas, which is both southern ”ideals” and rural community, meaning that it’s more “village-esque” than most in the US. Compared to the culture she grew up in, even our culture is more individualistic and isolating.

Rich people either inherited wealth from their parents or took advantage of less fortunate people. There is no other way to get rich.
