I have said this 1000 times, many times here, but CTs biggest export is humans. From colonial times it has provided a healthy environment to procreate with limited space and resources. The west was “won” under Stetson hats, firing Colt and Winchester firearms and providing humans to do both. The ‘west” is a child of the east, and still is, living off of subsidies and stolen land. Anybody gives you shit about growing up in CT set the record straight.
As far as white folks go, the setting of the west doesn’t hold a candle to the perils of settling the wilderness of New England, and no “Indian” war in the west comes close to King Phillips war. The west received goods by train…the New England wilderness received goods on ships the size of an average living room…ugh, please.
The west is marketing based on props manufactured in CT, MA, NY and other east coast states.
The investment necessary for a nuke doesn’t make “a few bucks” worthwhile. There are very few areas in which government oversight intersects with private corporations. Now, you are thinking of two other reactors? Most of the rules that govern reactors now stem from accidents like Three Mile Island. Chernobyl? Shit design from the onset from a corrupt country where saving a few bucks makes a huge difference. Fukushima? Who the fuck puts back up generators at flood level in an area prone to tsunamis, you know, the place that named tsunamis!
But to your point, there is a major difference between an accident caused from within and protection from without. This thread is discussing the latter and you are failing to take into consideration that corporations spend millions in lobbying to save a couple of bucks…because their primary goal is to protect their assets, and in this regard they get the full support of their government and can charge whatever they need to to achieve those ends.
You do it because you are 27…you have youth and vigor on your side. Any number of random calamities will screw up your plans…there’s no way you can plan for then future with any real certainty…this is when you live…later is when you survive.
How old are you that you are living in your 60+ year old parents house?
That is funny! Too bad he just didn’t make something up!
In music, the gradual slowing of a composition is still properly called retard, accent on the second syllable and with this in mind, one may say you can’t spell retard without the word red.
I was implying the dropping of the letters at the end, not applying a swamp yankee accent to words…those who would say rig-awt would most likely pronounce robot as ro-bawt. Those who are scolding you learned from their parents or grandparents and feel they own the language because their Irish mom married a guy whose last name ends in a vowel.
Depending on where your Italian ancestry is from, the dialect may be one where those last syllables are dropped, and others where it is not. I may be wrong but I believe that those who are correcting you are saying it in the southern fashion, perhaps Napoli or Sicily. That feels right. Dunno.
And please, it’s also Long Island and New Jersey and by extension Florida etc.
What a dope. Never underestimate the arrogance of some elected officials. Not all, but when you know the name of a governor of a fairly inconsequential state, that’s a lot of self promotion.
Sorry South Dakotans. No offense meant.
A German work colleague of mine was retiring at 62. I asked if he would get a job elsewhere and he looked at me puzzled. Why? He had modest benefits, a modest home, a caravan to drive around Europe and vacation and how else would his children get jobs and move up the ladder if those above them didn’t get off. Totally different mindset.
Here in America, it barely matters how much you save up because it can disappear in the blink of an eye by a market correction or a minor health issue. Any assumed safety net was eaten by now deceased. Americans in their twenties don’t need to “save”, i.e. give their dollars to money managers so they can make billions and dribble a few scraps in their direction, they need to change the system.
Here’s the people who make the rules:
Members of congress work about 140 days in DC, and receive 174,000 annually. Depending on length of service they receive a lifelong pension, annually about 100k +. These are the people scolding you for not working 365 days a year at minimum wage to share a crappy little apartment. the list of benefits they receive goes well beyond this, including being able to use congressional facilities for life, which if one becomes a lobbyist, makes that even more lucrative.
5 hours…Montreal. The dollar is strong. It’s a great city with cool things. Go now. You are welcome.
Oh well…I’m glad I got to use defenestrate in a reply the week.
I just want to defenestrate someone from those windows!
Personally, I think it’s a great idea simply because you get to meet folks from somewhere else completely, and get to find out we’re not baby-eating monsters but just humans like all you folks. For me, I believe in the idea of mandatory national service simply to mix everyone up and show everyone we are not as divided as people who profit from that idea would like us to believe.
Grab a train in New London and be in NYC or Boston in a couple of hours…it’s worth it just for that. If your from the gulf coast the beaches here are…well, they’re against the ocean…
Ninja Creami here. Use it all the time. It a reverse style that is, you mix up your whatever, plop it in the freezer and when you want something you grind it for like two minutes and it good, like real good and you can make a frozen dessert out of almost anything…oat milk yogurt fresh fruit. Hella expensive but at $6 a pint or more it doesn’t take long to pay for itself. I do have atrad ice cream maker…in the basement.
But it does change, and it does by being heard and involved. Every person making these decisions is either elected or appointed by an elected official. It is a tool that works. If there’s a dominant party in town then join that party and try and change it from the inside. Your ideological politics do not matter. None of that stuff matters at all municipal level. Republicans, Democrats, Greens and Libertarians still have to put out house fires and fix sewers. But just get involved.
It seems your parents are a generation that doesn’t want their kids to have a better life. Vote them out. Shout them down. Let them know how selfish and pathetic they are. People like to say how angry Americans are…they aren’t angry…those people are craven little hermits, pretending that their selfishness is the hallmark of freedom. They would happily send their sons and daughters off to have their legs blown up 12 time zones away rather than pay a dime more in taxes. It is obvious that the “everyone gets a trophy” generation has given birth to the “everyone loses because they dont work hard enough at the jobs that aren’t there” generation.
Let them know your displeasure at town meetings and vote them out. It is surprisingly invigorating, and fighting and losing beats regret and acquiescence any day of the week.
I dont know what’s in my coffee but sheesh! Enjoy your day!
Jealousy is poison…dump her now or dump her later, but this isnt a relationship…sack up and move on.
Very good, I stand corrected. I have not noticed a police presence on interstates as I have in the past, and I drive as part of my job so I took that as a good sampling. Anecdotal evidence I guess, and as accurate!
Many of your family may be supportive, but live under the same constraints you once did. You’ll be surprised who comes around…dont judge them for pretending to be outraged, because they are acting as you did prior to April 8. They are not obligated to ostracize themselves in solidarity to you, but they may find other ways to reach out. It’s too late now, so might as well be the bigger person. PS you might have more money now that you are not obligated to visit people who do not love you unconditionally.
I believe he thinks that after having been given consent prior to your first intercourse, he now has license to jam in you any time he sees fit. he should be disabused of this fact, as his next girlfriend make call him on it and he may spend the rest of his life with a sign on his lawn, or perhaps incarcerated in a place where consent is rarely asked for.
You should also revoke his license and send him on his way. There are better penises attached to better people…go find one.
If anybody truly wishes to honor his memory, simply drive more responsibly and shun those who do not.
