I just walked by there. They aren't letting anyone in until 6. Maybe 100 people waiting already - not too crowded

FWIW, they say glass and blankets aren't allowed, and there are checkpoints.

I haven't tried myself, but wouldn't want you to get stuck.

I have a hard time being excited about soft serve in a literal Dixie cup.

Good to know!

I keep hearing of people flying for appointments, so I thought maybe they didn't bring that back.

Before the pandemic you could go to a local passport office if your flight was within two weeks for in person service. I actually did this on purpose once, because I didn't trust that that standard service would get me a passport inside the month break I had between trips.

Since then though, I've heard of people having to fly across the country to get last minute appointments. A friend flew from SF to Detroit to get hers.

You just reminded me of being about 17. We had a debate/current events club that met at a bookstore every month. Some 10+ years older dude from approached us there one night and said he thought it was cool that we did that. Somehow, he ended up coming to a diner with us afterwards and bragging about his exploits in a San Francisco sex club. I don't remember anything too graphic, but I remember being creeped out that this strange adult from the city took a bunch of small town high school boys to a diner and started talking about sex clubs.

I was using my dad's car that night, and it broke down about a mile from home. It was the only time I had to use the "day or night, if you need help, call us" card, and I was very happy to see my groggy dad pull up without ever having to see Bleached Tips again.

I'll have to try it!

Via Della Scrofa is a longer walk, but also popular for park sandwiches.

[edit]: delicious, open on the holiday, very friendly barista, and air conditioned - thanks for the tip!

Interesting! There used to be a food cart at Smorgusburg called Tramezzino. They made excellent sandwiches with Venetian bread of the same name. They opened a real shop, but the menu wasn't as good.

Looks like Alidoro also has tramezzino bread. Now I wanna try!

[edit]: Closed for the 4th. 🫠

Try Last Place On Earth in Greenpoint

I'm moving from California for around $7 per cubic foot (so like $3000 total).

If you can find a good dashcam app, Peak Design makes a phone mount that's really convenient. Attaches with a magnet and detaches with a big button on the side.

I downloaded a dashcam app for my phone when I was riding in Asia (a bunch of people recommended it). It took up too much battery, so I deleted it after that trip. Of course, I got hit the next time I rode. 🫠

I haven't seen Independence Day since it came out. Maybe this is the year to rewatch it.

This seems to be a region-specific thing. In SF, I park mine in a storage unit as if it's a regular old garage. I called a bunch of places in NYC, and they don't even let you bring a vehicle inside.

When the G train comes back, I'd be down for a game night at Sunshine Laundromat!

San Francisco's tallest building has a glow in the dark foreskin. (I am not making this up.)

Bora Bora is an archipelago. You get from place to place by water taxi, so it's not somewhere you can really explore by foot.

Could be fun with a romantic partner, but could also be debilitatingly lonely by yourself. However, with a bunch of newly acquired cash, maybe you wouldn't mind renting boats and the like solo.

Sunnyside is also off the 7 and the people I've met who live there love it. Very neighborhoody.
