Downvoting should be reserved for obvious trolls, off-topic or things that clearly violate Reddit site policy. It should be reserved to eliminate things from the discussion that add no value, not because the opinion is unpopular or you don't agree. If you don't agree, reply.
Consider the greatest Commandment from Matthew 22:37-40:
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
(I added emphasis on like.)
There is no tension between love of God and Love of others (Saints for example). They are both Commandments. We only pray to Saints in union with their prayers they make on our behalf of us to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They follow the two Commandments also.
The thing is, nothing gets downvoted into oblivion. It's either displayed by default or you have to open it up. If you are downvoting unpopular opinions, you are just doing it to reinforce the echo chamber.
In the US, you can substitute penitential acts for the Friday Abstinence. I sometimes give blood on Fridays as a substitute. Of course, that only covers 1 in 8 Fridays, but it's a thought.
Shoegaze is somewhat adjacent to some of the 80s alternative. The Cure->Goth->DarkWave->DreamWave->Dream Pop->Shoegaze. Check out Slowdive's last two albums: Slowdive & 'everything is alive' for newer, but definitely explore older Shoegaze: https://www.loudersound.com/features/shoegaze-essential-albums
Also, I think some Alt R&B like SOHN and electronica like Phantogram and Beacon scratch this itch for me.
If you like early The Cure, I recommend 'Garlands - Cocteau Twins'. I recommend Cocteau Twins in general, but that one is closest to bands you mentioned.
Black Out Days (Future Islands Remix) - Phantogram
This Mortal Coil - Great covers, almost always better than the originals and highlighting great overlooked songs. Their work was criminally neglected as an influence to multiple 80s Alternative Genres.
It might eventually bear fruit. Certainly voting for increasingly worse choices hasn't helped anything. The Parties we have aren't inevitable, eventually one or both will get so bad so as to leave space for options.
Coldplay's 'Prospekt's March/Poppyfields' is a very sad, very underrated song, I think.
Voting third party might help to build up a minority party so that they have better results in the future. If enough people vote third party, it could dull the mandate of the winner and help bring about compromise.
It's required. You are still Catholic if you routinely sin. I think "to each their own" attitude makes her at least a Material Heretic and possibly a Formal Heretic.
Right. Sorry to send you on a search. Edited.
I don't know where I read this, but I believe the Scriptural basis for this is found in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. There were some abuses going on with regard to the Eucharist and confusion between a regular meal and the Lord's Supper. By setting the Lord's Supper apart from other meals we make this distinction clear.
I don't disagree with other posts here that give other, and perhaps better, reasons, but you did ask for Scriptural support.
EDIT: minor grammar EDIT: Left out chapter in Corinthians
I'll remind everyone that Saint John Paul II also expressed this hope, in his book Crossing the Threshold of Hope, while also maintaining universal salvation was heresy. I don't recall that causing scandal. I think there's reasons to believe that any discussion will be about personalities, not theology.
I don't think Redditors can resolve these issues from a theological perspective meaningfully.
There is danger here in involving ourselves in the vice of curiosity.

We should study theology that is profitable to our salvation, not those that has a danger to mislead or become about personalities.
Note how quickly David's indiscretions, even Murder, were forgiven by God, but there were extreme temporal consequences. Also, Solomon, the wisest of Kings and indeed men, let Israel fall into idolatry because his wives brought it into the Kingdom.
God is quick to forgive carnal sin, but the consequences of them are severe. It's difficult to stop sinning carnally once you give into them.
Thinking advice on upvoted Reddit comments is good advice.
Also, the intricate nature of a complicated relationship.
Everywhere I've lived, they say that, but I understand that they don't say it in Hawaii.
Also resolved with a Dictionary.
Try "in Europe" or "in Saudi Arabia". People make generalizations about people from regions often and it's not really comparable to racism.
I'm in the US and I don't include myself, so it's not a generalization that applies to 350 million people. People make generalizations about people in other countries all the time. It might be unfair and I apologize to all the many millions who didn't like 'The Sun Always Shines on TV' as much as 'Take On Me'.
Please! By all means pray for us!
Are there catholics only praying through Jesus?
