Annoyingly this feature is not available in Infuse. You might be able to define the episode order on the Plex server side.

This is more a problem with Dolby Liscening. They won’t officially license dual track Profile 7 decoding for anything other than Bluray players. Even if Apple uses their clout to make it happen, there’s nothing in it for them.

The only device that can do it is the Ugoos am6b+ with CoreELEC due to open source devs exploiting the chipset.

You can use dovi_tool to convert Dolby Vision remux files to Profile 8 and Infuse will play them as Dolby Vision. This is lossless but it will strip out the “Full Enhancement Layer” data, however every other media player (including the Shield) other than the Ugoos does this too for Profile 7.

If you can afford it…a proper nursing chair. One that tilts, swivels, rocks, reclines, and offers good back support.

For our first kid we didn’t have any such thing and spent countless hours on the sofa surrounded by cushions to stay comfortable for those night shifts. Second time around we got a nursing chair and omg this thing is comfortable to sit in for hours at a time. Plus you can swivel around to grab things and get in and out of it easily while holding a baby. Game changer.

Plex will transcode to FLAC and then the AppleTV will output it as multichannel PCM. Still lossless but it’s adding some extra work on the server.

Infuse will directly play the audio but will still get converted in the AppleTV side to multichannel PCM, since there’s no way for the device to currently pass the audio out directly.

If you had to choose between buying the two, I’d go with the AppleTV. You won’t get the benefit of the Shield’s audio passthrough.

But since you already have a Shield, stick with it.

It won’t prevent anything. But it will mean you can disconnect the TV from wifi/internet and not have it nag you for updates.

I use Infuse and access files stored in a network share. But you can also connect to Plex or Jellyfin media servers etc if you run those.

Just to be clear, you can play uncompressed Bluray audio formats with apps like Infuse or Plex or VLC. But they get output as lossless 7.1 PCM and the atmos data is lost.

Passthrough would allow the raw audio data to get sent to an audio system, lossless Atmos and DTS:X metadata and all. Assuming Apple allow passthrough of those formats.

In my experience, yes it’s worth it. I briefly tried front heights before getting my ceiling speakers, and the difference was huge. On the ceiling, above the listening position is much better.

A lot of the atmos effects are subtle, and it can be hard to hear and differentiate them in the front height position. Ceiling is best if possible.

It depends what you want passthrough for. If you’re running a 5.1 or 7.1 audio setup, then you’re not missing out on anything other than a placebo “Atmos” logo appearing in your audio system. It’s only when you have speakers beyond that (such as heights) that Atmos becomes relevant.

Although I have read reports of the Sonos Beam Gen2 having issues with some TVs and multichannel PCM audio (which is what the AppleTV outputs).

I would only purchase one used if I first had the opportunity to see it displaying screens of solid colours (red, green, magenta etc).

I wouldnt hold out for audio pass through. It’s been technically possible for years via a software update and they’ve never added it.

Use the Infuse app (iOS, AppleTV). It can connect to Plex and Jellyfin servers, or access files directly via network share folders. It will play anything you throw at it, including 4K remux files.

Do you have any content above 60hz? 99.999% of movies are 24fps and the devices can match the output signal to that.

For something with less tinkering required and compatibility with streaming services, get an Nvidia shield or AppleTV 4K and run Plex or Jellyfin.

Which player are you using?

TrueHD and DTS-MA codecs used by Bluray have been around for a while, so any AV Receiver should support them, even the entry level models these days. Something like a Marantz NR1510 or Yamaha RX-V385.

One of the TVs HDMI ports will be labelled ARC (Audio Return Channel). This can send audio outbound to an AVR.

However, TV built in apps tend to not support things like Dolby TrueHD. The G3 will output DTS:X though. You need an external media player (like an Nvidia shield or Firestick) to handle files with TrueHD. Streaming services only use Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital. The only place you’ll find TrueHD is on files ripped from Blu-ray Discs.

Claiming states rights was not the goal. The goal was to invalidate the Roe v Wade court ruling so that a national ban can be legislated.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/03/22/fact-sheet-house-republicans-endorse-a-national-abortion-ban-with-zero-exceptions-in-latest-budget/

If they cared about states rights, they wouldn’t be trying to ban the free movement of people between states for abortions:

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/republicans-block-bill-shield-people-travel-state-abortions/story?id=86821057

Even in some states that have excercised their right and supported abortion with state constitutional votes, opponents are working to block it its implementation:

Don’t think they’ll stop at the states rights stuff. It’s a distraction.

With a sound bar and no height speakers, Atmos isn’t really relevant. The AppleTV will provide lossless 7.1 audio from TrueHD and DTS-MA files by outputting it as multichannel PCM. Use Infuse as the media player.

But if you want the audio formats passed directly to your sound system, get the Nvidia Shield.

In the tiring newborn phase, alcohol just made me more tired so I didn’t bother outside of one or two drinks at social events.

But if you occasionally want one beer after a hard day, you can still drive a car after one drink. I think your wife is overreacting.

Probably just not much demand for it. Movies on 4K Bluray come in HDR on the disc so that’s what is preserved.

I’m not sure as I don’t have any DSD files. This thread seems to imply that Plex can play them by converting them to 192khz PCM.
