Quantum Leap is one of the oldest TV shows I have ever watched through the entire series multiple times and get about as much entertainment value as I do watching probably any modern show, if not more. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) and Al (Dean Stockwell) did a terrific job at portraying a time traveler and his best friend (in the form of a "hologram") and never failed to bring out my emotions. I laughed, I cried, and they went through some of the most heart-wrenching episodes that in modern times would be largely controversial. You can tell there was a great attention to detail, to at least maintain a fair bit of historical accuracy.
I was 3 years old when the last episode aired. 20 years later, through the power of streaming I started watching it. Over the past few years, minus the occasional reference, I never hear anything about the show being followed up with something new. Every time I see Bakula or Stockwell, I immediately think of Quantum Leap. Almost anybody I mention the show to never heard of it. However, they know all about these modern shows that have nowhere near the impact and will have been forgotten about in a few months.
The top most reason I believe they should bring back Quantum Leap, apart from how much I want it back, is that it ended SO poorly. So many times I have seen it on the top worst series finale lists. There is no closure. Even if this show was brought back for just ONE more season, it would fill that empty hole. It could answer so many questions the show left us with. Even the intro teases you every episode: "...hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home".
Through everything, even the terrible finale, they didn't trap themselves. They even set the stage with "Sammy Jo" Fuller, being a possible main character in a reboot. To avoid spoilers, that is all I will say about that.
If you have not taken the time to watch it for whatever reason, I can not recommend you watch it enough. I don't know why you would be here reading this if you never watched it, but, all the same, you should add it to your to-do list.
PS: Ironically I heard about Quantum Leap through off the cuff references on modern shows. Nobody came up to me and said "Hey, have if you haven't already, you should see this!". That's partially the reason I write this post. Even if there were no other support for a reboot, I would be happy if just one person decided to watch it because of what I wrote.
TL;DR - Reboot Quantum Leap. If you've seen it, I bet you know all the reasons I wrote without having to read my whole post. It's a wonderful show that certainly has room to air in current times.
EDIT:
Update: The Quantum Leap Reboot IS happening as of 2022! (More of a continuation) I can't believe it! Those of us who believed that ending wasn't really the ending and we get to find out what happened to Sam Beckett at last get some finalization. There are rumors that it's woke, and I really hope that's not true. Otherwise, no matter how high my hopes are, I am still in shock that this is really happening. I never thought in a million years this post would come true. Thanks for all the conversation! I can't wait to talk about the new show.
I used to play this game! It's called Brain Damage.
