Given your state location, try Forest Glen in Illinois and take the reverse (counter clockwise) either route. That gives you a three-ish mile to camp and, if you're feeling good the next morning, you can finish the loop and try out the packs for about 8.5 miles. Otherwise, reverse route back to the car.

Shades State Park in Indiana also has a very small backpacking route appropriate for beginners.

But as others have said, no shame in doing a shake down by car camping.

Good luck! I was in your shoes a few years ago and have loved the hobby since.

Depends on the 6 year old. Mine just did 8.5 miles with some limited elevation, but I carried her very light pack most of the trip. Would I take her 10 miles in a day? Maybe with little elevation, but 100% she has no load and we're taking it pretty slow. And my friends would have to be okay with slowing down or letting us take our time. She also dragged a lot the next day, so factor in slow recovery.

Then you learn also that there are 2-3 distinct poison ivy varieties that can grow in some surprising ways. I think. Who knows!?

Leaves of three, let them be.

Also every plant in my area has three leaves. Can't avoid all of them. Might as well say "run if green".

What options would I want to avoid if I wanted to avoid buying in bulk?

(That awkward mess of a sentence was me trying to ask the opposite question without officially hijacking the thread. 😎)

Fair.

It'll take me a bit to adjust to the idea that being classically liberal puts you more on the right now, whereas it was firmly a left position previously.

At the risk of further down votes, what "right policies" other than free speech would Maher exhibit?

No true Scotsman? Got it.

Are there rabid rightists? I think so. Not sure why, in that paradigm, there can't be crazies on the left. Seeing that unhelpful extremes exist on both sides is pretty fundamental to centrism.

Genuine question: would Maher characterize himself as centrism? I've been watching him for decades and I'm fairly certain he's more classical liberal, which only recently would be (mistakenly) characterized as "centrist".

OP, are you an Edgemont resident?

If not, seems like you're likely contributing to the grievances that motivate Edgemont residents to incorporate.

An obvious answer to your question is "remove motivation to incorporate by addressing the motivating grievances".

Disclaimer: I'm not an Edgemont resident.

Trying citrus instead of vinegar as the acid. Interesting. I may give that a try.

The good news is that you don't need ACV specifically. Pretty much any cooking vinegar works.

Many BBQ sauces are vinegar based. So are pickles that are often paired with pulled pork. The vinegar brightens/lightens up the fattiness of the meat. Even when I use other BBQ sauces, just a bit of vinegar directly in the meat elevates the taste.

This is the way. Can use soy sauce for the salt as needed.

Vinegar makes it next level.

I agree with this critique.

Best I can figure is individual classes perform better or worse any given year on standardized tests leading to such rank volatility?

Pm about xlite

If I remember correctly, Dan Durston replied to a similar question on a different thread, and his take was that he built the tent to not require a ground sheet.

On that suggestion, I don't take a ground sheet anymore. I've been tempted to use my tarp as a groundsheet when I don't need it for extra rain protection at camp. Either way, I've not had any issue with the base taking damage. I am fairly diligent with removing anything under the tent that can puncture, but I'm more worried about having to patch my sleeping pad than my tent.

No, I've heard multiple reports similarly and talked directly to Edgemont transplants. The data has seemed to trend the same way.

Still, I can see why you think my comment is ridiculous without (and maybe with) that background info.

Cheers!

It's a good idea to read history/biographies to get some perspective. Every generation has challenges. We're going through a lot of changes and difficulties, but this is by no means something new.

Can you imagine if she had picked Rothfuss?!

Actually, that may not be fair. It sounds like RJ left fairly complete notes on how to finish the narrative.
