I have a Knit Picks interchangeable needle set, metal tips that I'm offering free to a good home. A friend gave it to me years ago when I did not have any interchangeables, but I've since realized I vastly prefer knitting with wood needles and have gotten other sets. I realized I haven't touched this one in years, and it's just sitting there collecting dust, so to speak, so I'd much rather some other knitter get some use out of it. Set contains 24", 32", 40", and 60" cable lengths, and needle tips from 3.5mm to 8mm, plus all the connectors and keys, and a plethora of those things you screw on the end of the needles to keep the stitches from coming off (can't remember what those are called right now). The whole set is in a zippered plastic case, and each cord size and needle tip size are in separate plastic baggies within the case (see photos). I live in Canada, so I'd prefer to ship within Canada, but I'll also ship to the States for the cost of shipping. I'm not asking anything for the needle set itself, just want it to get some use!
Aww that's a shame! My one kitty unfortunately passed before she could really use the tower much, and our remaining girl pretty much only goes in the little condo part, she doesn't jump on the top, so hopefully it'll last us awhile!
Ha, I'm pretty sure we have that same cat tower!
I don't necessarily plan for the year, but I do make careful use of my ravelry queue. I used to just add any pattern I thought was cute to the queue, but a few years ago I went through and weeded it out to keep only the ones I actually had intentions of making in the near future. This meant patterns for which I'd already purchased yarn, or ones that I liked so much I knew I wanted to get the yarn for it as soon as possible. But I don't follow the queue in any kind of rigid order, and sometimes things will still sit on there for a few years before I get to them. What I want to knit changes depending on the season (i.e., I don't necessarily want to be knitting a blanket or heavy sweater in the middle of summer), and also depending on what's going on in life. Like, when we found out my brother-in-law and his wife are expecting, I knew I wanted to knit something for the baby, so I added that to my roster, but it obviously wasn't planned.
Yep, I work in the school system, but as long as you're registered with the college of psychologists in your province, you could work in private practice as well.
I'm a school psych in Ontario who moved up here from the States. So, first hand, I can tell you that while the pay is decent, it's not better, depending on what state you're coming from. I've been working for 14 years, so I'm at the top of the pay grid in my school district, and I've only just hit a salary slightly above $100k. But with the exchange rate, that's closer to $75k US, and I was making more than that 3 years ago when I was working in New Jersey. Also, are you also moving from the States? Because if so, there's a whole immigration process you'll need to go through to be able to work up here.
My husband and I found a family doctor at the beginning of this year, almost purely by chance. We'd been on waitlists at a few clinics since July 2022, and hadn't heard anything. Then a good friend mentioned that her family doctor, who she highly recommended was moving to a different practice and would be taking new patients; we called and got on their list, and had appointments a few months later. Ironically, only after we had set up these appointments did we hear back from any of the clinics whose waitlists we'd been on for a year and a half.
I'd say there were a series of "final straws". About a month before I finally told my ex I wanted a divorce, I'd gone back home to visit friends and family over the holidays (a trip he never wanted to accompany me for). During that trip, I spent time with my best friend, who knew that we'd been trying for me to get pregnant. My friend knew how much I wanted kids, but she asked me if I wanted to have kids who acted the way my ex did. I cried, because that thought was horrible to me. Then, the drive back was about 10 hours, after I'd had to help my friend shovel out her driveway in the morning before I could leave, and literally the second I walked in the door, he picked a fight with me. This was a pattern of his, anytime I'd go out and do anything on my own, he'd inevitably find something to argue with me about when I got back, making it very difficult for me to actually enjoy time away, but that was the moment when I finally realized that "we" were broken, and things weren't working between us. He "tried" for about the next month, actually job searching when he'd been unemployed for years, taking steps to find a therapist, cooking nice meals for me, etc. All of it felt like too little, too late, but I also felt obligated to give him the chance to try to fix things (even though he'd done nothing to address any of my concerns for the entirety of our relationship up to that point). I got to the point where I realized that if I stayed, all the joy in my life was slowly going to be crushed out of me. Even then, what actually finally pushed me to call it, and say I wanted the divorce, was finding out that he'd created a fully fleshed out profile on OkCupid and had been going on there the whole time he'd been telling me how much he wanted us to work out. But it was a long journey to get to that point, where I could actually make that decision and realize how much better off I'd be without him. I'm sorry you're having to go through this. Hugs.
At one of my previous jobs, I would regularly knit during our monthly staff meetings, which were about 70 people with someone presenting. No one minded, and I participated in discussions and asked questions, so it was always clear that I was paying attention. I actually got a few other people knitting too! At another job, I tried to knit in a similar meeting, and had the superintendent of special education, someone who really should have understood things like accommodations and different learning styles, tell my boss that it was disrespectful for me to be knitting. But you know, nothing was said to all the people scrolling social media on their phones who I guarantee were paying less attention than I was. So, it really depends on the environment and the people you're working with!
Terhune Orchards in Princeton! They do pick-your-own from May to October, whatever's in season; there's a ton of animals and I think a part where kids can pet/feed them as well. Plus they have an amazing farm store, a winery, cider doughnuts, cider slushies . . . I miss that place so much now that I'm not in NJ anymore!
Hey, thanks for responding! It's sweet that you want to do something nice for your mom. DM me and we'll sort out the details!
Cool, let me give it a couple days to see if any Canadians respond, but if not, I'll be in touch!

I moved to Canada (Toronto), and I do like it, but it is hella expensive here. Definitely not the choice to make if you're trying to save money. There's lots of amazing things in Toronto, but I also miss Jersey, mostly some of the food. Like I cannot get a decent bagel up here to save my life!
Not sure where exactly you're looking, but in most school boards in Ontario, school psychs are part of the Secondary School teachers' union, OSSTF. Each school board has its own collective bargaining agreement with OSSTF, and salaries are outlined there. I can DM you a screen grab from my current one for example, but basically, every collective agreement will have a salary grid that outlines your pay based on your degree and years of experience (or step on the grid). They're not the same across Ontario because each district negotiates salary independently.
The job is the same in the school board regardless of what your title is. Testing, report writing, consulting around behavior and learning, etc. The pay will depend a lot on where in Ontario you want to be, but most school boards will have that info available if you search for their collective bargaining agreements.
It's possible, sure. I did all my training and grad school in the US before moving to Ontario. You'll have to look into the specific requirements for Vancouver, and the BC college of psychologists, but it's definitely possible!
My job title is psychoeducational consultant. I've got an Ed.S. in school psychology. If you are registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and have a Master's, you would be a psychological associate. Only people with a PhD can call themselves psychologist here.
Early in my career, I would do babysitting on weekends to earn a little extra cash. It wasn't a ton, but it was something. There were a couple of summers where I worked for a summer program teaching social skills to kids on the spectrum, and that was a great experience, though the pay wasn't super high either. But there's all kinds of camps and summer programs out there, maybe see if something like that is hiring in your area?
I mostly follow her verbal cues, because often when I'm doing the poses/going through the flow, etc, I can't actually see my screen the whole time. Soooo kinda have no choice but to just listen and do what she says.
I was going to say this! My mom recently moved to South Carolina, and she can find pork roll at her grocery store.
I'm knittingchia on rav, feel free to add me. If a pattern is well-written and clear and all goes as planned, I don't always include notes. But, for an example of some of my notes: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/knittingchia/rockland-crewneck
It is absolutely vile. It tastes like cardboard. Pretty much at the bottom of my rankings. But I grew up with New York/New Jersey style pizza, so I've found very few slices up here that compare. I've found some decent stuff, don't get me wrong, but Pizza Pizza is utter crap.
People who came to Toronto as adults: what’s your take on Pizza Pizza?
