I havent seen any like that where I live, but im guessing every walmart in a 200 mile radius from where I live is like this. In any case, look at the blue carts full of crates that employees are pushing around, those are not the same people driving the cars.
Former walmart employee here, your delivery guy didnt even put those items in his car. He didnt touch those groceries until he got to your house. Walmart has a deal with Doordash, Doordash takes the walmart orders and puts them into their system, and sends someone to pick it up. Its the walmart employees that are picking the items off the the shelves (instead of the back rooms due to warehousing requirements) that are also bagging the groceries and putting them in the door dasher's trunk when they pull up to the store. Sure, theres a few employees along the way that might not give a fuck, but its mostly the business model that is crushing your bread. Its a shitty operating procedure that lends itself to frequent mistakes including but not limited to crush bread, leaking bottles, incorrect items, bad produce and missing items. Those poor employees are expected to pull 140 items off of the shelf PER HOUR all day in order to accurately calculate how many people need to be scheduled for the day. And this doesnt include the rest of their job. Its a horrible system, when you quit they fire you to make it harder for you to come back. Thats their way of threatening you into staying if you have limited options. They take advantage of people with money problems and a lack of a stable living environment.
People cant afford to pay what walmart deliveries are worth... But walmart isnt going to lose the opportunity to make money off of some people who cant get a better job.
The job itself isnt hell, but its as bad as they can make it. I would recommend not using their service. Its a lose lose for everyone. If anyone knows any decent grocery delivery service, please comment.

Im speaking from a place of compassion. This is not normal. You both have food related issues please try to find a new way to manage. You shouldnt be worried about whether or not you were the asshole, just do your best to avoid this in the future. Its gonna keep causing issues and its clearly affecting the kids. Kids dont get anything out of chicken nuggets and french fries aside from 5 min of excitement (then they forget 2 seconds later) and the stress the the parents are under is all too obvious to children regardless of what you do to hide it. And the diet is clearly causing psychological distress typical of yoyo dieting. Your kids may start to wonder why they get chicken nuggets but you guys seem hungry on your diet. They dont understand diets and you cant really explain it to them.
Im gonna try not to write a million pages here. I just want you to know me and my family went through this whole thing and it really gets ugly over time. I was a kid in a household with issues like this, it created a feeling of food scarcity and fear for me among other parent related stresses. Forgive me for makimg assumptions but salads usually mean somone is restricting calories. Please do not get too caught up in this, calories are the widely accepted be all end all solution... but its an obession for most people. Dont starve, create a healthy and active lifestyle, lose weight slowly. Diet may be 50% of your weight loss journey, but the other 50% is important and contributes to your long term weight, health and happiness.
If this just so happens to be grossly unnessary unscolicited advice, I really hope someone else benefits from it at the very least.

Ive seen far worse unfortunately. Had a guy show me his setup where the birds were shoulder to shoulder in a cage 6 inches tall. Because "they dont get territorial and fight when they are close together". What a load of BS.
Ill fuckin tell you what, my birds dont get territorial and fight either, but they have room to walk around and jump and scratch. I STILL feel bad about them being in small spaces. Im building an aviary this summer. All the stuff on the internet where people are showing you how to make quail your #1 food source in extremely limited space during armageddon make people just absent mindedly follow. I fell into the same trap. "Oh quail like small spaces because they are afraid of predators and prefer seclusion". It might be true but people take it wayyyy too far.
