I actually assumed Chopin. I don't know those pieces enough to associate which is each composer's "Waltz no. 2".

I don't think so? It has a line connecting it to Hungary, and "macar" sounds like "Magyar" which is Hungary.

Thanks for the explanation. It's sad for me to hear that the only opposition to Hezbollah is right wing. I hope the Lebanese people find a way to both fight the religious extremism and reconcile as a people.

Which are right wing parties in Lebanon? What's their agenda and why do you support it?

I'm certainly a leftist, and I condemn the horrible things done by both sides. I disagree with you about Israel's attempts to avoid civilian casualties - I think many of our policies were intended to appear like we're trying, but actually create many casualties and massive suffering and destruction.

I do agree that the progressive left has gone completely off the rails, which is sad for me because I used to count myself as part of it. The Israeli right wing and Hamas are counterparts of the same agenda and each maintains the other, citing the same dumb ideas and similar religious extremism. Hamas seems more intent on killing Jews while here the right wing just wants to git rid of the Palestinians. Still sucks completely. A sane position would be to support creating a shared future in order to provide good lives for everyone whose home is this land. Not to choose a side.

(TL; DR I sorta agree with you, but I wrote a rant about how it's actually our fault)

Genocide is being prosecuted in the ICJ which is a separate court. The two cases aren't connected.

I don't personally believe Israel to be guilty of genocide specifically. I think we're guilty of "lesser" war crimes (which are still horrendous). The problem is Israel has refused to subject itself to international courts almost entirely - with the exception being the genocide convention. This is why we're prosecuted for that rather than for something else.

Israel doesn't recognise the ICC, at the same time as the victims of October 7th and their relatives are petitioning the ICC to prosecute Hamas (which it seems to be taking seriously).

So fuck that "We're Jews and no one will tell us what to do" attitude that Israel has going on. If we subject ourselves to normal-people-rules, we won't find ourselves prosecuted for genocide.

If there are double standards (and I'm entirely not sure that's the case), the solution I hope for is to uphold strict moral standards for everyone. Not to let war crimes slip.

Most of the world thinks we're doing war crimes in Gaza, and if that's the case then they are responsible. I don't have any problem with the request for warrants.

Unpopular opinion: the friendship is worth more than the difference in morals. Cheating disgusts me deeply but I don't know that I'd cut a very close friend for this.
